I flew to Florida last week and I had maybe 6 sets of dpns and a couple pairs of circular needles. You are allowed to carry on whatever knitting accessories you want as long as you don't have scissors over 2 inches. This also means no bottled water or other drinks can go through security. You can take on board anything you purchase in the terminal once you go through security. You can also take your knitting on board.
