Contents May Shift In Transit

Our house was on a tilt- Noah was at a friend's birthday party for the evening and we were unbalanced in his absence. I could feel the furniture ready to slide to the other side of the room, and the kids would run in and say they thought they heard him in the kitchen. Is he back? When will he be done? Those four are one unit.

But we are noticing the shifting. We'll have a teenager in a few months. He is stretching up and out, developing a life outside of ours. And then it's time for me to pick him up. He texts me and I drive in the dark and all is righted, for now.

  1. We've been in this shift for a few years now and now I have 3 in that season...it feels weird and awesome all at the same time...

But if I am being honest I would give anything to be having dance and sing parties after dinner with the wooden spoon microphone before bath time.

    Bless you in this shifting!
    Hugs!

  2. Oh wow, I didn't know you were so close to teenager in your house. I will read and learn, then, and hope to do as well as you do.

  3. I often wonder what that stage of life will be like. Everyone goes through it...when value of friends becomes numero uno and family kind of becomes...meh. And then they come back again. I'm kind of dreading it. I hope my kids are able to balance those two relationships better than I did when I was their age.

  4. I'm pretty sure all the shifting is going to make me lose my balance and fall down a lot. Letting go is really hard for me, and I'll be doing like Stacey and watching you. NO PRESSURE. ;)

    Beautiful post.

  5. It's hard to imagine our sweet little Noah only months away from 13...

  6. I can't quite wrap my mind around when that time comes. It feels so far away still, and already too close. Beautiful words, as always. :)

  8. I love how you put that feeling into words. We've started to feel the shift here, too - like the apron strings are slowly being untied. Not cut yet, but they're loosening. It makes me happy and sad at the same time.
