When it was time for the game to start we moved our chairs down by the bleachers and there was a little confusion as to which side we were on. We realized we needed to get Ivy from the park. But she was gone.
That was not a fun two minutes.
Which seemed like forever minutes.
She had went and found that mom out of all the other people down by the ball field and told her she couldn't find her mommy and daddy. We had practiced such a situation with the kids when we were at the waterpark last month but never at the park park, because we are always there, except for when we aren't. And so, I am thankful for the ending to this story. May it never happen again.
I *hate* that feeling.
ReplyDeleteI have went through it twice with my 3 year old recently (he is just a little younger than Ivy) , once he was thankfully with her 7 year old sister and they vanished for about 10 minutes (at a safari park and they thought they saw me walking away and followed me) , another at a Theme Park last week (my husband was the one in charge then though ) , my rascal had sneaked away to go on some trampolines.
Hopefully neither of us go through it again.
I've had a few moments like that. It's one of those "happens to all of us" moments <3 And I hope it never happens again. For sure.
ReplyDeleteDitto on never repeating. It SUCKS to have that moment of "Oh my God, they really AREN'T here. Not hiding or playing but GONE."
ReplyDeleteSUCKS.
Smart girl, though. she knew what to do.
Scary... we lost Ruby last summer at the local fair... She was supposed to be with my husband a few feet away, he thought she had just wandered back to me... she was gone for like 5 mins. In that time, I had already found security and started giving her description... WORST thing ever! Luckily, it's a small town, and one of my husband's relatives noticed she was by herself so she stayed with her until we got there.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy Ivy knew what to do!
That is SO scary, not knowing where they are, are they okay, it's just not a good feeling. I'm glad Ivy's okay. I agree with Tracey and Lena, at least Ivy had an idea what to in that situation.
ReplyDeleteOh so scary. My littlest hid from me for 25 minutes not long ago. I can think of nothing in my life as scary as that was. Good idea about practicing situations if a separation happens. I'll be giving that a try.
ReplyDeleteWe have lost one or two kids momentarily and it is the most mind numbing fear on earth that hits you. Recently we "lost" a kid for a whole lot longer and I don't think I will ever be the same again. My kid was quite able to say who she was and who they should call when she was at the information desk, unfortunately they did nothing to help her. It took me about six weeks before I could write about it (http://www.se7en.org.za/2012/05/26/today-is-world-missing-child-). I am glad I did because folks were so kind and reassuring... but still...
ReplyDeleteWe lost Luke once at Kohl's. It was only for a few minutes and he did what we've always told him to do--found a store clerk and told her my first name, which they then read over the store speaker. Still, in those few seconds, it was heart pounding in the what if moments.
ReplyDeleteSo scary! That's enough to make your heart race. I'm glad she's safe and sound.

I am so proud of Ivy for doing what she was taught to do. Smart little cookie!
ReplyDeleteThat is the worst feeling ever! I lost my two-year old for about a minute at a large park. He had run after a squirrel (like he's a dog) and I thought someone had grabbed him. It was terrifying. I had to leave the park the minute I found him - I was just beside myself with fear. I agree - I hope I never have to feel like that again.
ReplyDeleteThat is so scary! So glad she is safe in your arms.
ReplyDeleteWHEW> I loose PK about four times a park outing at Tower Park since she likes those big trees. Always a heart stopper that this might be the moment. Thank GOD we have found them each time, yes. I will start teaching her to find an adult, good call.
ReplyDeleteSo scary!!! Glad it turned out alright! :)
