I could tell you all the things that aren't missing, like the half-drunk bottled water from Saturday on the chest by the entryway, and the piece of orange thread - taunting me on the carpet or the back of my pant leg - that Ivy insists is her friend. How do you lose a giant pillow? How could Gray's book be here just a minute ago and now it is absolutely gone? And how can you miss a bright blue sock?
The other night I sampled a roll-on perfume and at first I did not like the scent at all. Until about fifteen minutes later, I couldn't get enough of it. It reminds me of the time in sixth grade choir when I sniffed a girl's hair and asked her what kind of shampoo she used and she said Hรคlsa. I went back and bought it yesterday.
- just write
I love the way you write.
ReplyDeleteI'm coming in from Just Write (my first time linking up). Posts like this inspire me to get back to writing for writing's sake - thanks for that!
i am currently also in hot pursuit of lost library book. on baby animals. woah. also? my son had an apple he refused to eat and he then liked it so much, he even slept with. he named him juicy friend. juicy friend had to literally rot before we could throw him away. stick with thread while annoying, it will not encourage bugs :)
ReplyDeletewe seem to have random things go missing here too: a pair of glasses, a book of poetry (yeats), a pair of rain boots. the house has been turned upside down and inside out and they've vanished. i think there is a blackhole of lost things that one day NASA will identify.
ReplyDeletemaybe the book fairy is reading with her head on the pillow, wearing the sock...I know that's corny but so is my mind sometimes...
ReplyDeleteWe once lost a library book....I kept renewing it and renewing it. Then when giving my bedroom a thorough cleaning I found it - in between my mattress and boxspring!
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better, I'm missing two plastic blue cereal bowls and three hoodie sweatshirts. But come to think of it I wouldn't be surprised to find all five items in my son's locker at school...hmmm...
ReplyDeleteHow DO these things disappear? It's still a mystery to me! :)
ReplyDeleteI somehow managed to lose ALL of my husband's summer clothes. Every single last polo, short, short sleeve shirt. Nice. The only thing I can come up with is that they were placed near a "go to resale box" and I just assumed. Now we really now what happens when I assume! Good thing I am married to the most forgiving husband in the world.
ReplyDeleteLosing stuff drives me nuts! The vortex of life perhaps??
ReplyDeleteWe are current;y missing a book to that seems to have just vanished, in his hands in the AM, gone by afternoon. How do kids do that with their stuff?
ReplyDeleteI've lost a cell phone (never ever turned up) and a red Gameboy. INSIDE THE HOUSE. And we once lost (for several years) a school library book about the moon. I paid the book and found it years later sitting nonchalantly on the kids' book shelf.
ReplyDeleteI found a kid's shoe in my house. Just one, barely used Nike. The owner never claimed it and eventually I gave it to a thrift store.
Oh, and my favorite Pyrex mixing bowl (with handle) has been missing for months. All my kids claim they did NOT break it and forget to tell me. I think they are all a bunch of liars. Cute liars. But liars. I hope I find that bowl someday so I don't continue to doubt my sanity.
I love the way you write....oh. I so do. Magic.....don't ever stop writing. You give these beautiful moments a podium to deliver all thieir quiet importance. Love you. Xo xo
ReplyDeleteYour writing hugs my heart. (I know it might not make sense, but it just does.)
ReplyDeleteWHAT perfume? They change in about 15 minutes with your body chemistry, that is why you liked it later. I usually have one signature scent for a decade....but still wavering on mine this decade. I am so picky since I only want one. Beautiful in my 20's, then Jean Paul Gaultier for 30's...now kind of Euphoria but I really want to like Chanel no 5.....but don't know if I do. TELL ME what perfume?
ReplyDeleteMarc Jacobs Daisy! Love!
