A Mother's Day Photo Book, For Me

This post is sponsored by Snapfish as part of their support of the LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER SHOW 2012 series of Mother’s Day performances. I am the producer and director of the Northwest Indiana Listen To Your Mother show on Thursday May 10. I’m so grateful for sponsor support so that our show can go on!

I was given the opportunity to make a photo book using Snapfish’s new Mother’s Day templates, Linen for Mom or Letterpress for Mom. As much as I “plan” to print many of the photos I take to fill frames or albums on our coffee table someday, it doesn’t happen. They all reside here on my blog, or in my computer, or in my phone. Moms, can I get a whut whut?

I know this is a digital world and all, but I enjoy looking at photos that are not on a screen. There’s a permanence to it, and I also see it as an art. And so, I decided to make this photo book for me. I am celebrating myself this Mother’s Day.

I chose the Linen for Mom template for its simple shadows and flowers, and loved the option of adding text on the pages. I decided to write a letter to each of my kids explaining a bit about the impact they’ve had in my life as their mother, and I’ve been inspired to make this a yearly tradition.

I selected images that might be a little unexpected, but told a story. Those random Instagrams and snapshots capture the hidden beauty in the everyday of our little life. I don't want these memories getting lost in a timeline. I want them bound and printed.

above: a collage of Instagram photos on one side and an image fits the whole page on the other

Snapfish makes it easy to grab your photos straight from Flickr right there on the book-creating page. (You can also import your Facebook photos or upload from your computer directly.) From there, choose which style of book you’d like, with classic or custom styles available at all price points. Then you arrange your photos - the page layouts feature one shot selections to an entire collage on a page.

SFphotoedit

No need to edit your photos before uploading them- change the color, zoom in or more,
with just a click.

Just drag and drop the layout and photos for the design you have in mind. You can even edit and enhance your photo once you’ve placed it on the page. Tell your story with only pictures or add captions or even notes like I did. The possibilities are truly endless.

Mother’s Day is on May 13, but you’ve got plenty of time to create something beautiful that will look like you planned it and spent a whole lot more than you actually did - I speak your language.

SNAPFISH 003

Make one for your mom, for Grandma from the grandkids or maybe someone will get the hint and have the kids assist in making one for you. It would be the perfect gift companion to a Listen To Your Mother show ticket, no?

And if you’ve also been putting off getting your favorite photographs and Instagrams off of the web, I hope you’ll consider designing your own book because next time I come over I totally want to look through it. Happy Mother’s Day, my friends.

ed: I couldn't resist updating this post with more photos after the book arrived!

  3. This is awesome! So glad Snapfish is sponsoring LTYM! And I really like the letters to each of your children idea - are those what you posted yesterday? They were incredible - capturing the perfect snapshot of the everyday that you don't want to forget!

I make an annual photobook every October that I give to all the grandparents and a couple of the aunts & uncles at Christmas - and of course I keep a copy for me! I try to capture the whole year - pulling random snapshots from each month and creating larger spreads of the special events - birthdays, holidays, vacations... I really need to print a lot more of the pictures and fill up the photo albums and picture frames, but at least I get this done! (and as a Graphic Designer I'm glad I have the skills and software to do my own custom book - and have multiple copies printed affordably!)

  4. Love that they are supporting LTYM. I made one for my husband for Father's Day last year and he loved it.

  6. I love photo books. I just finished our 2011 Family Yearbook - 253 pages! But like you, I reasoned that I NEVER print pictures so I went all out and included every single picture I liked and wanted to include. (2010 was my first family yearbook at only 80ish pages).
Your gift to yourself for Mother's Day looks absolutely lovely. :)

  12. Beautiful photos!! I do love having squillions of digital photos of the family, but I never display them in albums anymore. So grateful for the reminder from you and Snapfish that our photos are meant to be shared.
