Early bird

So, I've found that mornings are actually quite awesome. We saw the biggest rabbit in our yard on Saturday around 7 a.m. -- every year we get bunny nests but this mama was huuge and beautiful. We just stood and watched her before we left to meet my family for breakfast. That's another great thing about morning time: going out for breakfast.

Also, the wildlife as we drove, and the newday sky, and the empty streets, first pick of the best donuts at the bakery on Sunday, and the Northern Cardinal couple that has been appearing in my front window each day. I don't want to not notice these things ever again. I'd never have guessed that being excited to see a little red bird would get me out of bed, but it totally does. I bought a feeder and seed for him and he was there today and I felt so relieved, and lucky. There are gifts in the morning, in the other times, I've been missing.

Ivy and I closed our eyes for a few minutes on the couch before the boys' bus was to arrive this afternoon. She slept heavy on my chest, and I imagined if anyone came to peek through the window just then that they'd see a beautiful life, my open book, and the new pillows on my couch. And tonight I still feel so very happy.

  3. So lovely. My husband says that's one of his favorite things- napping on the couch with a child. And I love nature- when I'm having a rough day, I always take the kids to our favorite park and trail.

  5. Beautiful outlook. It's the little things inside and out that make the difference, don't you think? Also, life just seems perfect with a little one sleeping on you. :)

  6. I got up at 6 yesterday so I could go for a run - er, walk/jog/walk again. It was so beautiful out, with the sun turning all the new green leaves to pink and red, and the mist fading, and the occasional plane taking off from the nearby airport, that I finally totally understood why people cherish getting up with the sun.

I still love me some sleep, but I think the benefits of early rising outweigh my need for an extra hour of rest in the morning. We'll see ... ask me again in a month when I've been trying this for more than two days!

  7. This is so lovely.

I adore being the first one to wake up in the mornings. I always am the first up during the week, but I'm usually first on the weekends too, so I get those moments in the morning to enjoy myself and take time for my devotional.

The past couple weeks I've been so tired that I've ended up hitting my snooze, but starting this week I wasn't letting myself do that and it's made such a big difference. I think God gives us mornings for these very reasons.

  12. This kind of reminded me of that McDonald's commercial where the guy is talking about all the morning things (ie., the sun) he'd never experienced before. Made me smile.
