beaux rêves

ivy, ponies

The things that come out of my daughter's mouth. I want to share them but I dare expect anyone to believe it.

She told me once, "When I was in your belly, I dreamed about you." She said it with such certainty and seriousness and in a tone that was apart from her normal childlike voice that to this day I believe it must be true.

The other night when Jeff and I were just settling in to watch Midnight in Paris she crawled in my lap to say goodnight, again, and I pointed to the screen. We talk about how we're going to go there someday, hopefully sooner than later. "That's Paris," I tell her. And she said, "I know!"

I asked how she knew and she chirped, "It's in my heart!"

That one? I swear, I'm so thankful Jeff was witness to. Beecausssssssssse. Oh my goodness.

This morning she woke, her face to my face (yes, she finds her way to my pillow most middle-of-the nights) and she purred, "I had four dreams and they all came true!"

She is my living dream I never knew I dreamed or maybe I am still dreaming.

  4. You need a book, "just something about ivy" and write all these wonderful things in it, because they are all just perfect and too beautiful to forget.

and because there really is just something about ivy, her words, her style and the way she sees the world. Love it.

  5. I read this and teared up. "She is my living dream I never knew I dreamed or maybe I am still dreaming." This. I know this feeling so well. I whispered to Nora today as she babbled that I can't wait until she can talk and tell me all about it and she grinned and raised her eyebrows.

    You are blessed indeed. :)

  6. My 7yo looked at me today, and said, 'Did you know you're getting prettier?' Sweet little daughters...we are blessed, aren't we?

  8. I know EXACTLY what you mean. I feel like my daughter and I are soul mates. I swear I knew her before this life. So amazing. :)
Grace tells me all the time (with her tiny little hand on my cheek, "You are da mos pecious mama ever." Melting.

  9. Two has a hard time telling you their dreams. Four is just beginning to learn about expected norms and it starts squashing those dreams. But three? Three is magical!

  11. Today my 3 year old pretended to snap a photo of me with her Barbie Polariod and breathed... "you're gorgeous!"

  12. Love the way our kids help us pull back the veil of the mundane to see the mystery. Sounds like she has the gift of discernement or prophecy. And if so, she will help you see differently.

  17. So amazingly sweet! And mind blowing to think sometimes what God gifts us with!

We had a baby dedication for my cousin's son last weekend and my daughter was glued to my side with my mom's camera, very quietly clicking away with me. Every so often, she would whisper "perfect" after she clicked. She's three, by the way.

And the stories she comes up with. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with as she grows and gets older.

    Children are such a blessing!

  25. We just watched Midnight in Paris and really enjoyed it. Did you love it?
I have heard that babies remember everything from their time in the womb. She is obviously gifted. ;) And too cute for words.

  26. Kids say the BEST and most profound things, don't they?

Whenever a young couple tells me that they've decided not to have children, I get a little sad in my heart because - oh! - how much they miss.

  28. Oh my. Oh my. What a special girl. The best part is that she has a mother like you who actually listens to what she says. That has to be so good for her little heart.

  29. I'm finally getting a moment to catch up on your words here, I'm a good couple weeks behind. I saved it for when I could really marinate. This one? Oh my.

I remember all these times when you'd write about Ivy's magic like this, and I only tried to imagine. Oh how I didn't know. But now I know. I feel Spirit tumbles in my chest just thinking about it. River says "hi" and "yeah" and last night started saying "mama". And she kisses now, and claps and waves. I think you know I've never had a 6 month old who did any of these things, never mind a magical faerie girl who did them. I love her too much, oh my. She makes the rest of us better people. I can't fathom what the next months, years, will hold when this ALL THIS was just in the first half of her first year. <3
