These are my kids

EYEPATCH

Gray said he couldn't go to school today because his bone hurt. I cradled him in my arms as he pointed to his side, "I rolled over in bed and I just don't think I can go to school awww."

He's going to school, with an eye patch. He put it on at breakfast and asked me to email his teacher letting her know he would need to wear the plastic pirate patch from our dress up bin, because then he wouldn't rub his eye anymore. "I'll flip it up when I need to see, though."

Ivy has had an imaginary friend named Alexa for several months now. We've come to accept it as normal- so much that when she talked about playing at her friend Aisling's house the other day Carter asked if me if Aisling was a real girl?

Last night Ivy took it a little too far. She was snuggling with me way past her bedtime and said that she had so much fun when she was in my belly as a baby. (Sweetest thing ever- does she remember? Maybe?) But then she whispered, "Alexa's in my tummy."

And I was all, dude, that's creepy and I slept all night with one eye open.

  2. haha i love the eye patch. When I was little I had an imaginary friend named lightbulb. After that my parents never know if I was making all of my real friends up or not. They were always shocked when they would meet my real friends. like, Oh you really do exist. :)

  3. This cracked me up. And I have been undoing the damage from the vomit hurricane that hit my house in the night, so I really needed a laugh.

  12. I love this. I can only imagine his teacher reading that email. It had to have made her day in the funny department. If I had been his teacher, it definitely would have gone into my "smile file" to remember forever. So funny.

My little boy said he remembered being in my tummy last night. I asked him what it was like and he said it was really mushy, daytime all the time, that he never slept, and that he played but not with toys. I'm pretty sure his ideal world includes no naps or bedtimes.

  15. how sweet! I think that just means you are a good mommy, if she is emulating you in that way. Precious!

The eye patch? Umm, not sure if that emulates anything but that does say he is a boy, through and through.

  16. Love how you capture them so perfectly, I have one who would totally wear an eye patch to school. This morning he is fighting mice in our living room to make it safe for us.

  18. Cassidy has an imaginary friend named Corona. And no, it has nothing to do with Jeff's beer preference. Her sister went to Corona middle school and ever since then we've had our own little version of Corona around. She mainly exists to allow Cassidy to make bad choices-long story. I hope your Alexa is a more positive influence on Miss Ivy :)

PS. The pirate patch is yet another example of why you're the coolest mom ever.
