Last week in the car I skipped right over a Whitney Houston song and have struggled with a wee bit of guilt. Silly, I know, but.
We have been listening to a lot of classical music lately. The other day Canon in D came on and as Ivy and I danced to it, I pointed to my wedding photos hanging on the wall. "I walked down the aisle to this song, when Daddy and I got married." She looked so sad and cried, "I wish I was there!" Oh honey, you were there in my heart. That seems like the cliché answer, but it also did seem true.
She had her first dance class today and it was kind of like one of those things you realize you'd been waiting for all your life and you didn't even know it. She belonged. It was her world. And I belonged right there on the bench. This was my world, too. We all made sense right then.
We put on her legwarmers and boots and went to the mall and I let her be the leader, mostly because later on I would need to be the leader and wanted her to play along. She led us straight to the carousel.
Later I bought yellow shoes and they make me happy.
JUST WRITE.

Love the road you're on - so important to remember, definitely.
ReplyDeleteLove the title, and I love when we have those moments of clarity...when all just seems right. Enjoy those leg warmers and those yellow shoes. It's almost always the little things, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteIvy's wedding comment is too cute. Is that the carousel at Southlake Mall?!
ReplyDeleteGlad Heather mentioned my blog to you!
"We all made sense right then." Those are the best kinds of moments.
ReplyDeleteOh, Ivy in dance! How perfectly perfect!
ReplyDeleteI so wish you'd been in Chicago at the car show - I haven't seen you often enough this past year. *sniff*
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for yellow flats. Were they yellow flats? TWINSIES.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful world it is...where mom and daughter connect heart to heart!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely she is!
The moments. They are so worth all the other stuff, aren't they?!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos of Ivy. And I'm jealous of your yellow shoes, you must post a picture. I love anything yellow, but would especially love yellow shoes.
ReplyDeleteps: thank you for stopping by my little blog the other day, it made me happy. :)
Wish I could have been on the bench with you at dance class. She looks adorable in her dance outfit.
ReplyDeleteI love these glimpses so much.
ReplyDeleteYou paint such a picture of beauty with your words...what a lifetime of memories you've captured right here in this place, never to be forgotten. In sharing you encourage us all to live and love more!
ReplyDeleteIvy in her little tutu, precious!

That is awesome!! My girl belongs in her dance class as well. It is amazing. And perfect.
ReplyDeleteI walked down the aisle to Canon in D to. AND my five year old wishes she had been at our wedding, too. It seems so hard for them to understand.
ReplyDeleteI walked down the aisle to that same song!
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of us walked to that song. :) So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLily goes to dance. My big girls went too, when they were 5 or 6. But with them we did it because it is what you do with girls. With Lily we go because she IS dance. I take her and she goes in the studio and I don't get to watch much because I'm chasing my almost two-year-old but I know she is doing what her soul demands she do, at least most of the time.
I fight my road too much. Thank you for the reminder. And love how you recounted letting Ivy lead. I need to do this with my girls.
ReplyDelete"we all made sense right then" .... {sigh}....those are the moments, no?
ReplyDeleteI love that you'd been waiting for her to be in dance and didn't even know it. And that she went straight to the carousel. :)
ReplyDeleteDance felt like that to me when Bean started too. And it's been joyful for both of us in our respective roles ever since, except that sometimes I wish I could join the class and dance, too!
ReplyDeleteI always tell Bean, "Oh, you WERE there. You were an egg inside my tummy (which I know isn't exactly anatomically correct, but she gets the point for now.)" She loves to know that. I've also told her that any children she might have one day are already in HER tummy while she was in mine. HOW COOL IS THAT??? I actually carried the eggs that will be my own grandkids. AWESOME.
Canon in D gives me the chills. You say so much with so few words.
ReplyDeleteI love Canon in D as well. I am glad you had such a great week. My 4 year old wants to be a singer right now, and she dances all over the place. It is such a sweet age.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
Such a life affirming little post right here. Thanks for starting my morning off so sweetly. Yellow shoes? I wanna see.
ReplyDeleteFinding those moments are like playing connect the dots with your own life!
ReplyDeleteYou should try out Time for Three - a great classical group made up of 3 young guys. They're great together.
ReplyDeleteCarousel's are great, aren't they?
i'm so glad that you and she belong to the same world. that is a precious gift. (ps. i love canon in D too. :))
ReplyDeleteYellow shoes make me happy, too.
ReplyDelete(Beautifully told)
Our 5yo is totally into classical music. In fact, it's the ONLY kind of music she requests or wants to listen to when we drive around town. She calls it "dancing music" (which is fitting).

we had finn in dance class for awhile. right when she was newly three. it feels like this little taffy balloon of time we created. we aren't in that class anymore since we moved but i loved it while we did it.
ReplyDeleteI just read this and it touched my heart. I walked down the aisle to the same song: Pachelbel Canon in D. So lovely. It's important to remember how good life is. Do you still have your yellow shoes? Keep shining like the sun!
