I Love The 70's

i love the 70's

"I thought it was supposed to be cooler today." Mommal sighed, passenger side while I drove to her hair appointment.

"Tomorrow. Tomorrow it's supposed to be in the seventies!"

"Oh I love the seventies!" she smiled and looked on. I wondered if she thinks I am a bad driver. I try to go slow and take every bump with ease. She holds onto the door frame.

She's 76. I'm going to drop her off and then grocery shop until her hair dresser calls my cell and let's me know she's ready. I replace all the expired condiments from her refrigerator. I buy her magazines. People is her favorite especially if Kim Kardashian is on the cover. She will try to give me some money but I won't take it. Was I burden to her when she took care of me long ago? No, of course not. Well, same thing.

  4. I can so relate to this... living next door to my husbands grandparents is such a blessing. It's sometimes very hard and feels like we have 2 more children :) but it's a blessing for sure!

  5. You are so lucky to get to help her. My Grandma died 3 years ago. The only Grandparent I had left.
We still have Jeremy's Grandma, but just moved from the same town as her. We miss her so very much.
Give your Mommal an extra hug from a Granddaughter who misses her Gram very very much.

  6. Love this. My grandmother passed away six months ago and oh, the missing. People told me in those final months, when I watched a business opportunity go down the drain because of the time I was spending with her, that I wouldn't regret it. They were right. So, so right.

  10. Oh - instant longing for my Nana ....

She & my Papa died exactly 1 month apart when Ren was 9/10 months old and the wounds have opened up fresh since Fiona was born, knowing they won't ever meet. I'd give ANYTHING to drive her to a hair appointment

That picture of Ivy and your Mommal makes me so happy!

  11. this brought tears to my throat...I miss my Grandma so much. She lives in Missouri, and I live in Virginia. I would cherish the honor of taking care of her because she dropped everything to take care of my mom, my sister and I when my parents divorced. Grandmas are such special blessings. I'm positive your Grandma would say YOU are a blessing!

  13. I have tears in my eyes reading these words- yours and the commenters.
Both of my grandparents have been in the hospital this year and it is so hard to see them there. To know that they're only getting older and things are changing...

Since we live in Germany, I fear that something will happen to them before we move back. I pray that there will be enough time- for us to enjoy our life here while it lasts, and then also for our boys to get to know them when we move back to Alabama.

  16. Mommal is so fortunate to have you. And you her. I'm a little jealous I don't still have my grandma. It would have been lovely to drive her to the salon and buy her People magazines.

    xoxo

  17. found this from the "Just Write" meme - very nice train of thought - being aware of surroundings and appreciating simple things - it's great.
