Devouring the fall skies in your eyes

I showed this video to Jeff and tears rolled down my face even though I'd just watched it two times already and he got teary, too. Choked up he says, "that makes me feel like a crappy dad!" LOL

I'm thankful I at least do the "month one" photos and only wish I'd started earlier. But the letter writing thing... I'm wondering if I shouldn't do something similar, whether it be handwriting letters or emailing them like in the video. What do you do?

Other links of note:

We're in birthday party mode this weekend. It's super chilly here now (I'm thisclose to turning on the HEAT) and I'm digging out my scarves and sweaters while totally devouring the beautiful fall skies. How about you?

  1. But, that IS what you do, STeph. You blog about your kids ALL THE TIME. Trust me, my eldest ADORES my blog. He likes to read about what we've done and such. And, even better, he thinks I'm funny!

  2. Every family is different and what works for each family is different too. We send postcards to our daughter, kind of like the e-mails in the video. They're piling up in an old recipe box =) We also gather pictures and publish them as a book with letters and stories and what-not. But we don't really have a growth chart or a baby book. I don't know the date her first tooth came in and I didn't save her first scribbles.

I think you just do whatever you like starting whenever you do =)

  3. I blog just like you, and when each of my children graduate from high school, I plan to print a book of the blog for them.

  4. I have a baby book for each kid, countless photo albums, and a Christmas scrapbook (each year I add two pages of pictures of our family Christmas). I've bought the cutest scrapbooks, stickers, papers, and kits for my kids with intentions of scrap-booking, but it seems so daunting. I haven't started yet. I'm thinking of making separate scrapbooks - like a sitting on Santa's lap book, a birthday book, etc.

  5. yep, this commercial simultaneously made me feel inspired and like a crappy person. i have now opened email accounts for my two kids and am starting to email them letters that are way more specific and tailored than any of my blog posts. but DAMMIT i wish i would have thought of this when i had my first child!

  6. This actually inspired me to start a blog for my kids - love letters to them.

You do an awesome job of documenting your children's lives.

  8. Oh, that was amazing. I feel like I have a hodge podge of memories and photos and videos and none of it organized nicely, although I have such good intentions to. Someday...

  9. Bittersweet. I sent emails to my newborn daughter for months, but then I stopped checking the account for a while (one I'd created just for her) and after four months I was locked out and the emails deleted. Sadder to know I'd done it and lost them all I think.
