The Motherless

The Motherless starts at the :57 mark

Behind the scenes of Listen To Your Mother with Lovelyn Palm...

Love is the mother of seven children: Chloe [7], Anika [6], Ellie [4], Clayton [2], Bianca [2] & two sons who wait on the other side of the world. She lives in Valparaiso where she & her husband own a custom home building business, Crusader Homes. They are anxiously awaiting the call for a court date to bring the boys home & hope to be a family of 9 by summer.

She is a former pediatric registered nurse, but now enjoys implementing those skills on her own brood & while on mission trips.  People often tell her how full her hands are. She wishes they could see just how full her heart is. She blogs her family's journey at Moments With Love.

Thoughts from Love: When Stephanie told me that Listen to Your Mother would be coming to Valparaiso and that she would be producing & directing it, I was so excited for her!  Such a great fit with her loves and talents.  I excitedly told her that I'd be happy to help with anything she would need for the production.

Then, lying in bed one night, I felt like I should audition.  I immediately knew what I was supposed to talk about in my piece, but I had no desire to do so.  I mean, I didn't want to read my piece to just Stephanie in a coffee shop to audition.  Stand up on stage in front of a bunch of people?!  No way.  But, my life is not my own & I had a story to tell.  That is what I adore about Listen to Your Mother.  We all have a story, don't we?

So, I sat up the night before the auditions and typed out the piece.  It spilled onto the screen from my heart.  Each experience that I talk about is a real experience-- a real child.  My prayer is that in sharing my love for these children it will open up more eyes & hearts to think about how we might be able to expand our roles as
mothers even more.

I'm honored to have been able to share this story in the production & here with you. Thank you for this opportunity, Steph.  This has been so fun & even more so to experience this journey with you.

A little background from Steph: I first met Love online even though we live very close by. Over time we have grown so close, and I just know we will watch our children grow up together (and maybe even marry?)- I can't imagine it any other way.

I must admit that -even being a real-life witness to the entire journey of Lovelyn finding her son Clayton in Uganda and bringing him home as well as watching her family wait patiently and longfully for two more brothers who are almost home- before her Listen To Your Mother audition I never truly deep down in my heart "got" just exactly the burning passion and gift she has for the motherless children on the other side of the world. I felt like you're either called to it or not, and if you know you don't want to adopt, I kinda thought I had no business being involved. But there is more, so much more- not just in Africa, but even outside your door. Lovelyn's piece opened my eyes and heart more than I could have ever imagined.

Every Sunday I'll be featuring a "behind the scenes" of each Listen To Your Mother Valparaiso/NW Indiana piece. You can watch the entire show on the Listen To Your Mother Show YouTube channel here or see each piece listed and linked here and here.

  1. Julie and I were both sniffling back tears during Love's piece. I knew her story, but I didn't really KNOW that there's so much that we can all do for the motherless until I sat and listened that night.

  2. But, my life is not my own & I had a story to tell. That is what I adore about Listen to Your Mother. We all have a story, don't we?

That is a beautiful quote. Thank you so much for giving us yours.

  3. Lovelyn did such a great job of allowing us to feel what she feels without forcing us there. She just opened up her perspective and let us get there on our own, and it completely changed my heart. So awesome.

  4. Lovelyn is an inspiration and beautiful lover of Jesus. Very proud to have shared many of these experiences with her. May others hear and come to love those that are unloved.

Your comment is gonna totally make my day!
