Who slept in her own bed for the very first time and for the whole night long?
She woke up just before 8 and found me still lying in my bed -with Gray- our bed isn't completely kid-free just yet (he had a "bad dream").
She asked for nah nap right away. And I said You slept in your bed all night! And she said nah nap. And I said do you want some breakfast? And she said nah nap. And I said how about some milk in a cup? And she said nah nap. And I said I love you so much! And she said nah nap.
Confession: I did nurse her once after we got back from Vegas. It had been over a week since she'd "weaned" and yet she still asked for it sometimes. I gave in but I knew that was [probably] the last time. I haven't given in since. I just keep telling her my nah nap is all gone. I almost feel guilty about it but I don't. I just feel like it's time.
Nah nap.
Anyway, so I just snuggled with her and said no nah nap. Let's go get breakfast. And she said make me a bagel with cream cheese and a chai.*
I am over the moon about the new sleeping arrangements. I was absolutely giddy last night checking on her after she fell asleep. She was actually the one that initiated bedtime. She crawled in her My Princess Hello Kitty Firetruck bed and was like, time for bed, boys! And now I'm totally prepared for sending them off to college or art school or downtown apartment or backpacking in Europe someday because that's what it felt like, choking on the tears as I saw Noah off to his own room downstairs. I still tucked him in.
*I am not saying that to be funny. She really did say this. And I really did make it for her, of course.

Chai. LOL. Madeline is my particular one and we always joke "I'd like filet mignon, mommy" - she'd seriously ask for it if she knew what it was. She usually has these looooooong detailed requests. ("With an ice cube" at 3 a.m. - another one of the favorites...)
ReplyDeleteAny-hoo, you're kids are fun.
this warms my heart.
ReplyDeleteOh that sweet ivy.
ReplyDeleteand did Noah love his own space?

Go Ivy! Go Steph! Big but great changes for all.

ReplyDeletewhoaHO! go Ivy!
ReplyDeleteShe is so sweet! I love reading about her...my youngest (#4 and last) is a year younger. A bit like looking into the future....
ReplyDeleteI feel like that everytime one of my kids goes from my room to their own. It is such a big moment for me. Yea for Ivy!!!
ReplyDeleteAwwww. Yay, Ivy, what a big girl! Gosh, this growing up thing is hard. We have been having some milestones of our own around here. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo! Now that is something to celebrate! LOVE the chai comment!
ReplyDeletego Ivy!
ReplyDeleteShe looks like such a "big girl" in that picture. Oh goodness.
ReplyDeleteMy kids always ask me for an iced grande chai. haha! Glad I'm not the only mama this happens to. :) What a transition. On the one hand I am totally ready for a bed only inhabited by my husband and I...on the other, I keep encouraging my kids to crawl in with us. Haha!
ReplyDeletesweet sweet ivy. such a big girl.
ReplyDeletesweet girl!
ReplyDeleteGreg still takes his nah nap to sleep :) I am ok about it! Re bed...we did a new bedroom and slept 3 days in his room till the smell of new furniture wore out and after he wanted to sleep there...sometimes he comes to sleep a couple of hours with us and soemtimes the full night but really I wasnt expecting him to move out by himself so am really proud of him :) hugs to your sweet girl
I just love this, all of it. Can't believe how big she is getting.
ReplyDeleteAnd a chai! Love it. She is so big!! When did our babies get so big??
ReplyDeleteshe looks very happy with herself! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteshes such a doll.. makes me want a girl so bad!
ReplyDeleteOh man, so precious! I <3 Ivy.
ReplyDeleteWe're working on this too. I'm more picky with "boob" and "nap pwease"...the other night, Avi went to sleep without nursing. She slept most of the night in her own bed as well.
Last night, I wasn't able to put her down at ALL unless it was in our bed. But she let me leave her there and then, after a couple hours, I was able to move her to her own bed.
The joy of the long road....
Go Ivy!
ReplyDeleteI weaned my own son, who's a month older than Ivy, in mid-April. He's not asking to nurse anymore, but he's still not sleeping through the night.
He will one day, right?
She's growing up so much! How bittersweet it must be.
ReplyDeleteA new chapter of motherhood is upon you. Thanks for sharing your stories with us.
