BIG plans for no plans

run gray

It's the kids' spring break this week and we really have no plans. I wanted to do at least a little something special so we went to the zoo yesterday. (Here's where I remind everyone that it was 26 degrees in Chicago on our way up there.) But, we know how to bundle up and all I could see ahead of us was fresh, outside air. I didn't care how cold it was.

I was so tempted to save some of these photos for my April FOUR post but I am holding out for warmer weather. It has been known to happen on occasion.

A huge bonus to doing outdoor things in not-so-awesome-outdoor weather: you have the place all to yourselves.

We are still going to have fun this week but just no big plans looming overhead. I do hope to turn the playroom into Noah's room and transfer some toys down to the finished side of the basement (and hopefully transfer most of them to someone else's house via freecycle.) It will be Noah's first time rooming alone since he was a baby. (His request.) Carter & Gray will take the bunk beds in the boys room and we have BIG plans for Ivy to take over Gray's awesome firetruck bed. Did you get all that? Because there will be a quiz. Also, you know what this means? Time for another baby! JUST KIDDING.

Other than that, I'm not on spring break so I'll be working as usual and also putting some finishing touches on Listen To Your Mother stuff. Speaking of which, if you want to know more about my background in theater you can read my interview with Meagan Francis, Following a dream: a dedicated mom of four rekindles her love of the stage. Jazz hands!

Seriously. I was just kidding. Four is our magic number.

  1. It's totally time for another baby :)

We're moving H into a big boy bed tonight. First time in a LONG time there will be no crib up in my house. My heart has just about cracked in half.

  2. Makes me wish now that I would have gone to the zoo. You made it look like so much fun! I'm going next time for sure, cold or hot.

  5. Please, please, please share instructions on how you made the firetruck bed work for Miss Ivy. We are planning to move our 2 year old from our bed to his own bed soon as we are beginning to lose sleep now that he has decided to hog our entire queen bed. But he's never slept apart from us, and I still have to lie with him until he falls asleep for nap and bedtime. And he still wakes up in the middle of the night for milk (from a bottle now that he's weaned himself from me).

So really, full on instructions as to how you accomplish that will be so appreciated. Pretty please with sugar on top. And if I were wealthy (or were even making ends meet at the moment), I'd pay you for that post. I've loved bed-sharing, but my hubby is ready for a full night of sleep and I'm ready to not have a toddler playing with my face all night. =)

  6. Our Spring break is in 2 weeks, and we were just discussing what to do. Or not do. We also have some room rearranging that needs to take place, which will require a day trip to IKEA. Holla!
No matter what you do, have fun!

  13. I think 4 might be our magic number too. But...how will I know for sure? Do you just feel it way deep down in your soul? I wonder.

  14. loved the pics as always....I got 2 and deep down I wish to have more however, rationally we dont have room in the house, hubs is not interested in having more and I dont really want to have 9 months of agony (i say that even if my pregs have been good coz I dont like being big and not being able to do stuff and basically loosing my body!) so I really dont know...but truth be said I wish more kids yes!

  16. I am so scared to move Grant into a big boy bed. I look at beds and duvets all the time for him but yet to make the purchase because I just wanna keep him as a baby- is that so wrong! LOL! Its coming soon though so wish me luck!

  17. Hurray!! I *ADORE* our zoo when it's raining (happens often in Oregon....) and cold and just plain old crappy. The animals always have so much more fun and there tends to be no one there. It's fabulous.

  18. I think it's great that Noah is getting a little space to himself since he's getting to that age where he might like a little more privacy. But don't be surprised if you find either him in the room with the others of them in his at night! Because while it's nice to have your own space, the change can be strangely lonely at times when you're used to them being there! At least that was how it worked in our house!

  19. This makes me smile. I love the no-plans breaks, room shuffling is always fun for everyone (it feels like camp, somehow), and Ivy in a big girl bed... what fun. We just moved Ax into a bed in a room across the tiny little hall (and moved the two older boys upstairs into what used to be the office/guest room) and it's been great. He still wakes at midnight and comes in with us until morning, but that's Ok. It all works out. Enjoy having your big boys home from school this week.

  20. I have zero plans for my 4 year old for spring break. This is her first spring break too. Oh well, maybe I will come up with something for a spring break next year

  21. i'm all about the no-plans kind of break. we just got off a week of lying low, and the rest and togetherness did us all a world of good.

ps you do realize that this is precisely the sort of post that precedes a pregnancy announcement... :)

  22. Four is a great magic number to have. But then again, I'm biased.

Brrr. I hope it's warmer now. If not, definitely do come visit. We'll sip margaritas by a pool somewhere. You can thaw.
