Squirrels in my bathroom.

bathroom reflection

I finally did something about our downstairs bathroom. Remember my updated upstairs bathroom? Hard to top the ruffled shower curtain (that I still love dearly) but I found that, thanks to my patient waiting (ok, procrastination), Target has a pretty decent selection of shower curtains & clearance sales now (I wasn't into anything they had last spring.)

Way back then I bought the squirrel prints by Ryan Berkley on etsy and it's taken me this long to figure out frames and the rest of the colors I wanted to go with. I still would love your thoughts on what color I should paint in there. It's tiny, and also has no window, hence the not so great photos.

I'd love to paint this room and then finally move on to the playroom across the small hallway- we already have the paint for the playroom that I lovesomuch- it's going to be robin's egg blue and this awesome pink-orange spice color. So what could I paint the bathroom that would compliment that? And not be too loud or too much, you know?

Also, according to Ivy, that's her and Gray in the illustrations. Aren't they adorable?

  3. I had the same squirrels hanging in my bathroom! http://meganboley.com/2009/01/19/mr-mrs/

Now they live with the rest of the crew in the nursery.

  4. I love your pictures and the new curtain. I don't know if it would be too much but I think Yellow to pick up the color in the pictures would be neat.

  5. i think a soft gray a few shades lighter than the curtain will compliment the curtain, the squirrels, & the robin's egg blue.

    p.s. i LOVE the squirrels.

  6. Lauren, I LOVE the idea of gray in there.... my friend Lovelyn had suggested a midnight blue-gray color that I'm really thinking about, too!

  7. I don't know about complimenting your other colors, but I like the colors of your handtowels...the dark red or the dark blue would look awesome behind the yellow background of the squirrels.

We have a charcoal-ish gray in our office and it just doesn't work. It makes the room kind of gloomy (no windows in there for us either).

  8. When I look at that room I think of like really classic swedish colors. Really soft medium blues and yellows. So maybe you paint the room a blue that is somewhat lighter than the blue on the squirrels collar....maybe that would be too much...

    I like loud rooms. :)

  9. Well of course they're Gray and Ivy. I totally guessed that when I saw them! ;)

I agree with the soft grey if you want to go light.

    Or...

You could do a nice rich chocolate brown to compliment the gold & brown in the squirrels and the blue/grey in the curtain. Plus, chocolate/blue is always a great scheme.

My wedding colors so I will always recommend them. =)

  11. Oh I love the prints, so cute! The curtian is great too! I think midnight blue would look perfect in there! I love updating it feels like you moved without all of the packing :)

  13. Those squirrels are too fun. I'm seeing a lighter blue in there.

  14. I also think gray would look great in there. A very soft blue gray.

Also love the shower curtain and the prints. Makes me want to get rid of my paisely wall paper even that much more now.

  15. super cute squirrels! and I love seeing design ideas put into practice by regular, real life people in real life homes as opposed to designers and magazine spreads. great for inspiration, but not so practial.
I wouldn't have thought of the gray paint, but that sounds like a good idea to me. just don't go too dark or the room will seem smaller and cave like. I'd keep it pretty light.

  16. Love the squirrels, still. Mine are in my office. It could be cool to paint the bathroom the sunny yellow that is the background color in those, so it looks like they're floating in their frames. Just a thought. It might be too much but it could work…

  17. I am going to be the odd ball and say because it is such a small room and has no windows that grey will make it seem like a cave. I would go with a white or cream with the orange from the playroom as an accent.

  18. so funny that you and megan have the same prints!

  19. Fun! I like it (even though I am not particularly fond of squirrels.) Now owls...I'm ALL about them right now :)

  20. oh, I love those prints- how fun! and really love the shower curtain. gray would look cool with the colors you have now. we used an awesome gray in our first house- called Cathedral Gray by Ralph Lauren. it's soft and light, grayish-greenish. I loved it- I'll probably use it again- someday. but, a real gray, just a really light shade, I bet would look really good. but...what do I know?! can't wait to see what you do!

  21. okay, i would paint it pink like the ivy squirrel's bow and get really fluffy white towels and a really super fluffy white rug. but that's probably more me than you.

  22. I think I would go with a light creamy yellow...and paint the ceiling the same color as the walls, it should make the room seem bigger...not that I'm any expert but it makes sense to me :)

  23. oh dear, those squirrels are downright creepy. and yet, i want them! LOL

  24. I have to say a gray/blue color would be great. I would not go too dark since you mentioned it is small and has no windows. If you go too dark the bathroom will look even smaller. (This happened to me at our old house and had to paint it over). I think a gray color would look wonderful with your curtain and accents. Very pretty bathroom and the pictures are fun!

  25. Okay, I am seriously loving those squirrels. Between those and Erin's (swonderful) kitty-cats-wearing-bows picture, I am going to be on the hunt for kitschy animals. My husband will think I've lost my mind.
