I knit this for Beth's Eli. You know, Eli the BABY with a baby head?
This is what happens when you have the right pattern but wrong materials. Or the wrong pattern with the right materials. Or a bad knitter.
Whatever. Again I am certain this common knitting mistake is a perfect teachable moment for my life as is everything I put my hand or mind to lately (please do not even read that as sarcasm,
because
I'm not kidding, I am starting to cherish these lessons
and
hey man, at least I finished what I started.)

um...he'll grow into it? pffft.
ReplyDeleteIt looks adorable on YOU. :)
Hey, it is a really nice looking hat though! :)
ReplyDeletei can't tell you how many of my scarfs have turned into flags [unfinished attached to knitting needle] so way to finish!
ReplyDeleteIt looks cut eon you, you could have said it was for Beth and no one would be the wiser :-)
ReplyDeleteyou are adorable. I love your spirit.
ReplyDeleteHa- thanks. It's REALLY mishapen. But I am totally going to wear it!
ReplyDeleteSteph
OH MY GOSH, this is hilarious! We could put his body in it?
ReplyDeleteIt's cute and I sort of want one. See? You've started a trend.
Well, I for one, love this kind of knitting serendipity - it looks adorable on you! :-)
ReplyDeleteWasn't it the wise Elizabeth Zimmerman who said to knit the hat anyway, even if you aren't getting gauge, because with all the variety of heads in this world, it will surely fit someone? Smart lady, that EZ.
(Of course, this is written by someone who may or may not have recently frogged out an entire shawl, so clearly I don't always practice what I, erhm, I mean, EZ preaches LOL)
You had to make one for you first, so he could see how cool it is, and then wear his all the time. ;)
ReplyDeletethis is a lovely hat! Fit you perfectly !!!! Maybe you should do another one for Eli :-) Keep that one for ya
ReplyDeleteLOL, at least you got a new hat out of it - and it looks so cute on you too! :)
ReplyDeleteI had the opposite problem with the first hat I knitted - was an adult size, I knitted with slightly smaller yarn weight since was making for my 6-year-old. The hat turned out to fit my 4-year-old perfectly. ;)
he'll love you for the wonderful gift and I bet he'll still wear it regardless of any mistakes.
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew how to knit. Is it hard? I think it would be a good thing for me to know how to do for the cold months when I can't take Liv outdoors.
ReplyDeleteAnd so I could make myself super awesome hats like yours.
That would totally go with a turtle neck and a pair of jeans (for you) :) - This may be the next "HOT ITEM FOR WINTER" you will have started a CRAZE and we'll all want one ;)
ReplyDeleteHey..could happen - I think it's totally cute! :)
In just a couple of years, Eli will LOVE it :)
ReplyDeleteI've done that too with making things for babies. I'll either have the wrong needle size; the wrong type of yarn; or the pattern isn't quite right. Plus I've never gotten the gauge thing down.
ReplyDeleteI've been thanked for the gifts and told that they'll grown into it. :)
You could give it to Beth and attempt a matching one for Eli? How darling would that be?!?
ReplyDeletePS. the look on your face is just totally you!
I agree with all of the above: you look good in it, and a wonky finished product just proclaims, "Made with LOVE!" (Or at least, that's what I tell myself.)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I think the pic of you in the hat should be your new profile pic, if only for the holiday season :D
ReplyDeleteThis is why I don't knit socks anymore. The first one totally fits and the 2nd fits someone with a much larger foot than me and with me in size 11's that's saying something.
ReplyDeleteIt does look cute on you!
I'm putting my order in for one too. It reminds me of Randy Quaide in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.
ReplyDeleteI bet if you wet it and put it in the dryer it would turn into a baby hat. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, just a little big.
ReplyDeleteWell, the bright side is it looks super cute on you....right? :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is super cute, you should wear it yourself.
ReplyDeleteAt least is looks great on you! ;o)
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
At least is looks great on you! ;o)
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
i guess the good things is now you have a hat for yourself ;) or maybe to auction off!
ReplyDeletesounds to me like a happy accident, you look totally cute :-)
ReplyDeletethe first hat I ever crocheted...for my husband...ended up fitting as a cozy for a decorative glass globe thing that sat on our coffee table. It wouldn't even have fit a baby head.
ReplyDeleteYou are darling, by the way.
That would fit my baby perfectly. He's got a bit of an orange-on-a-toothpick thing going on.
ReplyDeleteMaybe just wash and dry it a few...dozen times? ;)

ReplyDeleteI think it's beautiful! I don't know much about this, but if you felted it, maybe it would come out just the right size. :)
ReplyDeletethat's funny...but it looks really nice on you! i make crazy knitting mistakes all the time! knitting has some great life lessons.
ReplyDeleteThe hat may be too big for Eli, but it looks REALLY REALLY cute on you. That is SUCH a great pic of you. It could seriously be in a magazine or a cute knitted hat catalog.
ReplyDeleteHey, if I were you I would be DARN PROUD that I actually finished it. That lovely gray ENORMOUS baby hat :)
ReplyDeleteYou may find it really, really nice for those Indiana cold, cold winters.
ReplyDeleteit's cute! you make anything look cute.
ReplyDeleteyes, i think you should stick eli in there booty first and let his legs hang over. cute!
I really, really like that hat mucho lotsa.
ReplyDeleteI'll take it off your hands. Or your head.
You're so cute.
ReplyDeleteIt looks totally cute on you! Wish I could knit. I've tried. I end up with tight stitches and lost circulation in my fingers. Eli is a lucky little guy to get such gifts ovbiously made with love.
ReplyDeleteThe baby blanket I made for my older son turned into a Cal King blanket...oppsie!
ReplyDeleteI love it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture of you by the way!
Jen
Adorable! I love it!
ReplyDeletei saw a guy with a hat like that, except it had a yarn mohawk foofing out the top. it was AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's a good fit for you anyway! And it came out super cute.
ReplyDeleteI am taking a biblical counseling course and we were talking tonight about why people get stuck in patterns, why habits continue and why life is hard, basically. Anyway, the instructor reminded us that a sovereign God has charge over all our lives and has it all mapped out. (Psalm 139) Even the oopsie hats.
I have no idea if you will find that relevant or not, but I hope you know tonight that He loves you. He really loves you. Oopsie hats and all.
He he he. Well, just keep it for yourself and make a new one for Mr. E. 'Cause this one looks pretty cute on YOU! :) You're so adorable Steph. In so many ways. xo
ReplyDeleteI totally love the hat! It's super cute.
ReplyDeleteJust means another hat/color/yarn/whatever else you can insert here was meant for Eli. :)
I think I saw a tweet by Christine Koh that said something to the effect that you can take any mistake and make it look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI agree w/ her 100%.
