Gray's attitude was for the birds this morning. Everything made him cry.
Possibly my best parenting-method yet? I told him, I think YOU need a piece of chocolate*!
Yes, it was 8:30 in the morning.
So what.
It worked.
*other alternatives: a hug, a trip to the park, a dance party in the kitchen, drinks with whipped cream, a book in my lap, my attention, my attention, my attention.

Chocolate helps everything. Now hand it over and no one gets hurt... ;)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I love your blog. Off topic but, just wanted to say it.
ReplyDeleteTotally sweet! Also- praying over them- Capri loves that! It's like my attention, and God's attention all wrapped in one. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're a cool mom! Chocolate always helps the mood!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love that pic! Is that a reflection in the side of your car? :)
ReplyDeleteYou rock. Hard. You remind me of my mom. :D
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!!! chocolate would cheer me up too :-) What ever works right :-)
ReplyDeleteBrillz. Sometimes a little grace goes a loooong way.
ReplyDeleteGood cue taken from the best Father ever ... sometimes He gives me a little piece of chocolate when I'm crabby and don't deserve it, too.
ReplyDeleteA well-timed treat is such a good thing -- for all involved. Loving your blog!
ReplyDeleteBest. Mom. EVER!!!!!
ReplyDeletei am a firm believer in the chocolate therapy, too. and i know it's bad when they will only eat from my big jar of bittersweet chocolate. none of that semi-sweet schmuckus for me, mama.
ReplyDeleteI did the EXACT same thing today w/my newborn and toddler! {the errands and wearing, not the chocolate ;)}. Though chocolate is a *great* cure-all :)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant!
ReplyDeleteThere is never a wrong time for chocolate, in my book. Mmm, chocolate.
ReplyDeleteSometimes a mom's gotta do what she's gotta do!
Oh my goodness. So true. So, so true.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great solution! Love it
ReplyDeleteSo funny. My 3-year-old's heart was broken today and the only thing I could think of to help him out (hugs weren't doing it) was CANDY. I told him it would help him not be sad anymore. He finished the candy and then with the saddest voice ever, told me, "I'm still sad Mommy." Funny he wasn't sad while he was eating candy. ;)
ReplyDeletechocolate helps so much sometimes! and mama's attention is definitely the key!!
ReplyDeleteit is truly amazing how much sitting in the floor brushing my little pony's hair does for emma. she is like a different child when i put lucy down and make time for her.
ReplyDeleteWe are of the same skin sometimes!!! I am a firm believer in a lump of chocolate for myself when I wake up grumpy... why wouldn't it work for short people!!! Otherwise if someone is falling apart and tearful about life love and everything else and they just can't do one more page of school today... and that's before we have even started, then they get to share a decaf latte with me!!! Works every time... We all need a bit of royal treatment to get us through somedays!!!
ReplyDeleteyou are a GREAT MOMMY ;)
ReplyDeleteAh....some days demand chocolate. Such a great mom move! That was such a smart idea - way better than threats, yelling, and dragging them (yeah...I've tried it)
ReplyDeleteIt will be a great memory for your kiddos too. Feeling loved even when they're unloveable - it was a family devotion in action! :)
It really is the little things in life.
ReplyDeleteCar reflection shots are awesome, by the way.
<3
I'm always surprised how quickly a tantrum can be cut short by a simple "Phoebe, do you need mommy to give you some loves?"
ReplyDeleteShe stops, crawls up to me (usually nursing her brother) and we hug and I kiss her forehead.
I have yet to try chocolate :D
Oh yes, chocolate can make any day better!
ReplyDeleteYou're pretty wonderful!
ReplyDelete(that's why we have pumpkin pie for breakfast at our home sometimes, too. Bumpy mornings are just no way to set the tone for the day)
Hooray for chocolate!
Someday I hope to be that awesome of a mother. Seriously. Your intentional parenting is noteworthy (as in, yes, I might have a notebook of parenting techniques I want to try someday).
ReplyDeleteHey Steph, I haven't commented in awhile, even though I'm still reading, but I wanted to say that warding off bad moods with a treat is something I do too :) And it works, so that is all that matters :)
ReplyDeleteAlso-can you direct me to some easy to learn knitting patterns or books? I can knit a simple scarf using the two common stitchs-pearl and now I forget-but anyways, I'd love to learn to do it better, but I don't know anyone that knows how and haven't been able to find anything that seems like a good starters resource. Thanks!!
Cute picture and chocolate..yum!
ReplyDeleteCures a bad mood around here every time! Mostly mine... ;P
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to respond to a "for the birds attitude."
ReplyDeleteYou inspire and challenge us all. Never leave the blogosphere, k?
stephanie@metropolitanmama.net
look at you beauties.
ReplyDeletei subscribe to all these methods as deemed necessary, but definitely add in a straight up whipped cream bomb from the can!
you know what is sad? like truly sad, like it makes me want to cry? i have tried this stuff and it didn't work. i've tried all of this stuff. no fix, not even a temporary one. sometimes. today was a day where i pulled out every possible trick. play-doh, crafts, my old toys from when i was little, playing outside, back rubs, a warm bath, all of my attention, everything i could think of, and still -- no help. i want a cookie. sorry i am venting this here. you've met clark. you know. it's been a really hard few days. sheesh.
ReplyDeleteHmm, we've had a few really hard days with my four year old son too. I've tried a few things, but mostly, nothing has worked.
ReplyDeleteBUT - we didn't try chocolate. :) Thank you for this post, it's a good reminder for me! Lots of good comments, too.
The "everything made him cry" comment has my heart connecting with yours today. Liam has been that way since Saturday. It's the saddest and most frustrating thing for me the past few days.
ReplyDeleteWe have a LOT of dance parties here.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are my hero.
Great thinkin' I will have to remember that.
