the patient

the patient

This was our weekend, pretty much. Lulu wanted her mama and how could I not oblige?

She's doing great. We see the orthopedist tomorrow and I suppose she'll get a real cast on. I hope we can still fit her cute BabyLegs over it because we have several to rock out with her outfits. Might as well have some fun with it, right?

Nothing stops this child. I am either sprinting to catch her from jumping off the couch/kitchen stool/ottoman/coffee table or holding her in my arms. She's On or Off. And both modes greatly involve me. I am tired.

I spent the whole day yesterday watching movies on my laptop (Paper Heart, Sunshine Cleaning, Super High Me) while knitting with her in my arms or at my breast. I was also nervously awaiting the news of my best friend's new baby being born so I knit three baby hats and one and a half pairs of hand/wrist warmers.

KNITS

(I did decide to take orders if anyone's interested.) (The aqua blue pair is my first "sale" for Ordinary Sarah if she approves of the color!) (The single gray ribbed fingerless glove is a new style I'm experimenting with and will be up for grabs.)
(Also, I did make this "shorties" version for Kara, my haiku winner!)

Favor? What movies (old and new) do you love and think I must see? I am always looking for something to watch while I knit. I love independent/romance/dramas/documentaries/feel good stuff, that sort of thing. Any recs?

  1. I love Sunshine Cleaning! Have you seen Phoebe in Wonderland? Parts of it are sad, but it was a really, really good movie and also very poignant as a parent.

  2. Aww, poor sweetheart. I hope she feels better. I'm drawing a movie blank right now as I'm feeling not so great, my head is a puffy balloon.

  4. have you seen "no impact man"? Loved that one, it's on netflix.

and I might need a pair of fingerless gloves as well. I'm thinking a gold/mustard yellow color would fit my style quite well.

  5. I have to recommend Sliding Doors. I think it's a great movie that is almost completely unknown.

  7. omg, how old is she? i can't believe she broke it by falling off the couch?? i would've freaked. you handled it fantastically.

oh, my BIL filmed a movie called "Flourish". I don't really know if you can find it anywhere except maybe buying it online. but it has jennifer morrison and jesse spencer (from the tv show "House" in it). mystery, funny, sarcastic, independant film.

  8. I'm sure you've seen it but my favorite movie while art&crafting is Love Actually... I've seen it zillions of times. Also While You Were Sleeping, Sleepless in Seattle, Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood, Sweet Home Alabama, Beautiful Girls, and Princess Bride. :)

  9. I'm so far out of the loop on movies I don't even have any suggestions for you...love the knitting - I hear its very therapeutic! Hope your little one heals quickly (I'm sure she will)!

  10. Have you seen Little Miss Sunshine? It is a good one.

  11. Once, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, Immortal Beloved are some of my favorites.

  12. Oh I'm craving a pair of fingerless gloves something bad.

Valentine's Day was adorable. So was He's Just Not That Into You. My favorite drama is Pan's Labyrinth...gets me every single time. I hum the lullaby to Olivia constantly. And fun ones for you and the little patient? Anything by Hayao Miazaki (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro...)

  13. Oh poor baby! I hope she feels better soon and that arm doesn't ache too much. I remember breaking mine when I was five and having to wait to get it set in a cast. I was so scared I would roll over onto it at night.

Movies: Love Actually, Ever After, The Princess Bride, Ferris Bueller's Day Off... I don't really have any new ones, haven't watched many movies lately. :)

  14. One of my all time fav movies is Love Actually. I also liked the doc This Emotional Life. My husband and I watched this together.

  15. Well, I love many usual suspects such as You've Got Mail; Sabrina; Roman Holiday; Gigi; Charade; To Catch A Thief; Yours, Mine, and Ours (the old one with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda). And if you like You've Got Mail, there is the film it originated from "The Shop Around The Corner" with Jimmy Stewart that is cute too!

Hope the lil miss gets feeling right as rain soon! But at least you are finding ways to be productive!

  16. If you are a fan of Pride and Prejudice, I recommend "Lost in Austen" which was a British miniseries, now on Netflix and elsewhere, I'm sure.

It's about a woman who is transported to fictional Jane Austen world where she finds herself messing up the storyline, mostly inadvertently. It's funny, charming, clever.

For an oldie but goodie, watch "The Women" from the late 1930s. The dialogue is still the snappiest, wittiest, and funniest ever written. Rosalind Russell (plays Sylvia Fowler) is the best. Also, her "Auntie Mame" is fabulous. The clothes! Swoon. Great story about living adventurously and authentically, too.

  17. Oh! I so so so so approve!!! Can't wait to try them on. :)

Have you watched The Young Victoria? Very romantic and lovey-dovey and strong-woman and wonderful. I highly recommend it.

  18. I second Immortal Beloved...oh man that scene where he's lying in the pond at night and it's reflecting the starry night sky all around him..

  19. I'm the same way! I have to be watching something when I knit. Right now it's usually my DVD's of Dr. Quinn, but I also sometimes randomly choose something off of netflix (including episodes of LOST). I'm almost done with a shirt I was making for me, but am now going to give to my Mom. I have a set of open lace gloves that I'm planning for myself, along with another sweater or two for myself. I don't really have time to knit-but I force it in there anyway. It's relaxing...

Love your projects!! Look forward to seeing more!

  20. i totally want to buy the gray ones. i LOVE THEM!

i'm glad that your punkin is powering through. i wonder if that mama milk will help it heal more quickly...

good luck! & enjoy the movie time. [another fantastic one = the fall. a precious little girl is the main character - just listening to her talk makes you want to cry.]

  21. I loved the Anne of Avonlea Series that was on PBS & on occasion we get it from the library. I also love to watch old series of t.v. shows. Like the last one I watched was Soap...I loved that show.

And when The Chicken got her cast it was much smaller than the splint. Hoping that it stays the same for you guys.

  22. I'd love a pair of wrist warmers, they look so neat!

Hope you had a good Monday!

  23. Have you seen "North and South" (about England, not the Civil War) It is a great Romance.

  26. Oh no! Poor Ivy!!! She seems to be doing well though, under the circumstances. I got teary eyed picturing you two curled up together, comforting her. Sooo sweet!

Love your projects too! I have always wanted a pair of hand/wrist warmers! So, you're taking orders? How do we go about ordering?

  28. AAAAAAAAAAA look at you awesome lady!!!!!
    i'm so impressed!

How could Sarah not love?! I adore.

  29. If you are looking for funny, I'd get Pineapple Express and the "documentary" Air Guitar Nation. No seriously -- you have to get it. It is awesome.

Cheesy but good romantic comedy that will honestly make you laugh out loud? Music and Lyrics (Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore). And I'm not even a romantic comedy kind of girl.

Then of course some worth re-watching - Darjeeling Limited, Garden State (for the soundtrack alone), SuperBad...I'm all over the place with these movie recs. Sorry about that.

  30. I loved Super High Me - esp. when he was more "psychic" after! Ha!
If you need a good cry, you HAVE to watch "Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father" - so sad, but so good

  31. I really liked the new one with Leo Dicaprio that was just in theaters, the one about dreams and now I can't remember the name... shoot.

And I love old Marilyn Monroe movies, like Gentlemen Prefer Blonds and Some Like it Hot. :)

I'm sure Ivy will still be rockin' the baby legs, even with a cast! :)

  32. My sis in law had her baby boy today too! I hope your little one feels better, fractured bones are no fun.

My movie rec is 500 Days of Summer. :-)

  33. Daredevil or not, she's certainly a little angel.

  34. I'm too lazy to scroll thru comments, so I'm not sure if someone suggested it or not but "Away We Go" is brilliant and even though it makes fun of us extended breastfeeders a little bit, it's all in good jest and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

  35. Aww! Those are my wrist warmers! Funny thing: they aren't shorties at all on me, they come down almost to mid arm LOL (But *I* am very much a shorty...) They are lovely and soft and warm and if I didn't have the privilege of owning them already, I would order some right away! :)

I highly recommend The Royal Tennenbaums and An Affair to Remember. I hope the little miss is feeling better very very soon, poor babe. xo

  36. I want something!! And that picture of Ivy is precious and lovely. So glad she's fairing well with her new accessory :) By the way, the check found it's way back to my home; I had written your address completely wrong, transposing the entire street number backwards (what???). I have nothing to blame this on but pregnancy brain.

  37. I clicked over from my RSS feed to read your readers' recommendations! We see about 1 movie a year so I am very far behind on the topic.

I heard "Inception" was good though...

And have you seen "Food Inc"?

  38. Uncorked. Difficult to find but so worthwhile! Rufus Sewell plays the dreamiest song you've ever heard on the guitar at one point. And as far as movies that never get old, Almost Famous. And if you like the humor in Wes Anderson and Christopher Guest movies, (and you haven't already watched it) you might really enjoy Arrested Development. Season 1 is on hulu right now.

  39. You like my kind of movies too. here are some I can remember;
Dear Frankie, the Proposal, the National Tree, the Blind Side, The Railway Children, Faith Like Potatoes, Cranford, Heartland, Good Night Mr Tom, Agent Abbey, the Prizewinner of Defiance Ohio, the Snow Walker
