Oh where do I start?
Well, you know one of my best friends, Beth (also of Beth Fletcher Photography)? She took some photos of our family recently and when we were done, she asked if there was anything I wanted specifically, and I had this wild idea- what if we all lied down in the grass and made the shape of a heart? Would that work? Wouldn't that be kinda cool? She was SO up for at least trying.
I didn't think there was much of a possibility of getting the kids to participate successfully but we tried anyway. I mean, they would have to lie still, after a hot morning photo shoot, but let's go for it.
The resulting photo above is 1) disturbing, 2) not a heart shape, and 3) amazing, because everyone stayed still!
Also 4?) I am so tempted to send in to Awkard Family Photos. What do you think? Want to start thinking up some captions for this one? I'd love to hear them. Maybe you'll win a prize.
Beth and I just about passed out from laughing SO HARD, naming it all sorts of morbid things, what were we thinking? and oh man, life life life life life is full of stuff just like this and I AM SO GLAD.
I posted and wrote about the (less nightmarish) photos that Beth took of the kids here today, and if you peek around at the galleries on her shiny and new website BethFletcherPhotography.com you'll see some more, too.
Also, if you "like" Beth Fletcher Photoraphy on Facebook, you'll be entered to win a photography session and free photos. Details here.

It is kinda cult-ish. :)
ReplyDeleteThe processing gives it a zombie-like glow. LOL.
ReplyDeleteLOL my husband could not be more FLAT to the ground. How did he do that??
ReplyDeleteSteph
Steph! This is hilarious! Before reading the post, I was looking at the pic, thinking, what on earth is going on?? haha.
ReplyDeleteJust think about how you all will be able to laugh about it for years to come!!
So, is it wrong that my frist thought was, "Oh, S***, they drank the koolaid?"
ReplyDeleteI remember I got there as you were all lying down and I thought, "I really hope Beth doesn't make me do this."
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I am dying I am laughing SO HARD. I will never look at this photo and not laugh, smile, smirk or cry. Which makes it the BEST PHOTO EVER. Well, not really, but you know. It's good for our spirits.
ReplyDeleteAnd Erin's comment? I was reading while nursing and I laughed out loud and Eli jumped and looked at me like I was crazy. twas awesome.
Have you seen the movie The Happening? This reminded me of it right away. There's tons of shots in it of people laying lifeless all over the ground. I swear this could have been in that movie!
ReplyDeleteSoo funny that it didn't turn out at all how you imagined. I'm sure it will be the one that brings you smiles for years to come. At my request we took a similar shot during our recent photo session of our family laying in a hammock. We ended up looked awkward and uncomfortable.
You should so submit this to Awkward Family Photos. I know it would make it in! : )
My caption:
"Mom thought it would be sweet if we all layed in a heart. It wasn't until seeing the photo that she realized the local cult had just found their poster family."
"we all fall down" per Jasper.
ReplyDeleteI love that your family is always up for anything. You've got a great spirit!
Not sure how to title that exactly, but it brings to mind those circles people draw on the pavement during parades...you know...and then wait for horses to poop in the circles? And then if their circle is pooped in they win some sort of prize? (Or is that just a crazy Wisconsin thing?)
ReplyDeleteI think it look cool I like it :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL. "Circle of Trust" or "Circle of Life" PLEASE POST ON AWKARD FAMILY PHOTOS!

Instead of "the circle of life" why not "the circle of death?" Heh.
ReplyDeleteMaybe "Chain of exhaustion" calling it anything with death or dying is too morbid for me. :D Funny stuff.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of like a new twist on a crop circle :)...A people circle.
ReplyDeleteBeth showed me the awkward photo yesterday and I thought it was hilarious. Definitely you should send it in.
ReplyDeleteThings don't always work out the way we hoped.......
Photographer slays 6, then arranges bodies for personal photo project.
ReplyDeleteLike a circle that never ends, there is a never ending list of things wrong with this photo.
ReplyDelete(although I think its kind of cute in a weird sort of way.)
The Nap Circle - sort of like a drum circle but completely different
ReplyDeleteLol...it's pretty funny...in a freaky kind of way. The other pics I saw are great! I love the one of you and Jeff.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea is really cute. But the picture is pretty funny!
ReplyDeleteHuman dominoes? =)
ReplyDeleteHow about "Ring Around The Rosie Had A Tragic Historical Ending." Cause that's kinda what it made me think of...
ReplyDeleteHahaha.....it kinda looks like some strange, performance art, cult advertisement. Love it.
ReplyDeletei am cracking up so hard right now. this is awesome. and yes, erin's comment totally sent me over the edge.
ReplyDeleteLOL...I almost don't know what to say! Oh, but the fun it brought you all was definitely priceless.
ReplyDeleteHilarious. I was laughing so hard that Holden (6 months) was worried I was crying, and my husband had to ask me what was funny.
ReplyDeleteAt least you *knew* it was funny! Abby
Steph, I'm dying over here. That is so ridiculously funny. Please send it to Awkward Family Photos. You HAVE to.
ReplyDelete"...we all.fall.down."
(I'm refraining from the morbid ones in an effort to not sound crazy)
these are great. i always post our outtakes :-D
ReplyDeleteThe circle of life.
ReplyDeleteI think you all just needed a nap, right? Hilarious!!
ReplyDeleteHIGH - LARIOUS!
ReplyDelete"They all took the family game of dominoes a little too literally."
"Everybody's drinking the family kool aid."
"When the 'all fall down' part of Ring Around the Rosey gets too competitive."
I agree with Kate, but it looks like you told the kids that whoever stays down the longest wins the game (in order for everyone to get a nap in).
ReplyDeleteIt's not so bad...when the explanation goes along with it.
ReplyDelete{Laughing}
ReplyDeleteThat picture is going to have you cracking up for years to come; I'm sure of it.

When I first skimmed the post, I took a look at the photo and thought, 'oh my! what kind of blog is this?' hehe. I love the idea of sending it in to Awkward Family Photos and I love that you are totally cool about that.
