I wear flip flops and the mulch clothes my feet in a permanent film, of summer. It's on their faces, It's on my kitchen floor, I wipe it away but it won't.
It's there until the leaves freefall from branches. And pencils are sharp, and books smell like sour and library. We do one last park day of the season's vacation. And walk through a secret trail to the school, and the boys find out who their teachers will be.
He said, this is where you'll come someday.
And I thought, in my (head)(heart), I'm not so sure about that. Maybe I'll homeschool her after all. Though, there's no time nor room in my head for those thoughts today.

Hope they have a great year!
ReplyDeletePS Love the flash shirt!
Seeing this post made my heart smile. Just having my little girl, and thinking about her going to school...I can only imagine the feelings mothers have when they send their children off on the first day of school every year.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that. It made my day!
LOVE that last picture!

Hard to believe that summer is over and school is starting soon again! It feels like each years is going faster and faster!
ReplyDeleteI love those pictures they are great, did you take them?
I wish we didn't have to blink.
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet pictures!
ReplyDeleteEver listen to music by Plumb? I think of you and your blog when I do. The album titled Blink especially.
ReplyDeleteIvy's hair has gotten so long!
ReplyDeleteyou sure have a talent for photography!
ReplyDeleteI'm wiping away the tears...love this! And maybe by the time Ivy goes to school you can be the assistant in her classroom.
ReplyDeleteI told myself not to blink ... but somehow, I did, too. It goes so stinkin' quick.
ReplyDeleteIt's all too fast, just like I said in my post yesterday.
ReplyDeleteTrying not to blink over here either.
And oh my, those curls... ;-)
you are so great at capturing the moment.
ReplyDeleteand on the note of leaving more comments on others' blogs (raised in one of your recent posts) - thanks for visiting mine! I was honored. come back any time time permits. : )
That last picture, actually all of the pictures, but especially that last one - so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis made my eyes well up. I cannot imagine how quickly time must feel like it's passing for you. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are so beautiful and touching.
ReplyDeleteAnd even though I am obviously a big fan of public school, if you did decide to home school Ivy... I'd totally help you with all the curriculum stuff.
Beautiful! I have a similar(internal) conversation about my daughter and homeschooling every time school comes up, which is surprisingly often given that she's six months younger than Ivy. Apparently it's already time to consider preschool admissions. But that would be too much like blinking for me!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. I hope they enjoy the last few days of summer and that they have a great time at school this year!
ReplyDeleteOn the HS topic, I am in the middle of that decision for my girlie. So hard.Where to find the time? Energy? Do I have the sanity to do it? Oh boy!
Good luck, the good thing is you still have time...even if you blink.
great post and pictures, you are so right, don't blink.
ReplyDeleteBoy, do I know about the "Don't Blink" rule. *sniffle*
ReplyDelete:) Sweet post.
ReplyDeleteYou're thinking about homeschooling, eh? :) You might just love it, hon.
ack! my heart! you're killing me, steph. <3
ReplyDeleteand that grey. i love his spunk - it just shines right through. (is he home with you for another year or two?)
Ivy looks just like you in that foursquare picture! I can't stop looking at it.
ReplyDeleteSo much bittersweet-ness.
ReplyDeleteMy own firstborn is starting kindergarten soon-soon, and I fear I have spent too much time blinking.
Don't blink - trust me - I blinked and my firstborn is twelve and next time I blink he will have flown... when people say "it goes so fast" - believe them!!! I never did!!!
ReplyDeleteI really love this. it's weird to have 2 girls 4 years apart- I'm always thinking about how fast things change- how quickly Em grew up and how it feels like not long ago, she was just this like this baby girl we have now. and our little baby- she won't stop growing up either!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying not to blink.
hope it's a great school year!
jil
My heart just exploded. :-)
ReplyDeleteI blinked, and my oldest got on the bus for kindergarten today. Oh, my aching heart.
ReplyDeleteWe have decided to homeschool our boys after a year in kindergarten. We want them to have a year to learn "school rules" to help make the school/home duality a little easier. I'd love to talk homeschooling with you. I have lots of sources and am always looking for NWI homeschooling parents to do things with for field trips and things.
I love the four square photo
ReplyDeleteMy oldest is starting K tomorrow and I am a MESS!
ReplyDeleteoh soooo precious!
ReplyDeleteI love you so much, and I love your posts. This, you, are awesome.
ReplyDeleteAh, sweetness. The lingering days of summer.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I could totally see you as a homeschooling mom.
