The Last Hurrah

tire swing

I wear flip flops and the mulch clothes my feet in a permanent film, of summer.
It's on their faces, It's on my kitchen floor, I wipe it away but it won't.

look up

It's there until the leaves freefall from branches.
And pencils are sharp, and books smell like sour and library. We do one last park day of the season's vacation. And walk through a secret trail to the school, and the boys find out who their teachers will be.

someday maybe
He said, this is where you'll come someday.

And I thought, in my (head)(heart), I'm not so sure about that. Maybe I'll homeschool her after all. Though, there's no time nor room in my head for those thoughts today.

  2. Seeing this post made my heart smile. Just having my little girl, and thinking about her going to school...I can only imagine the feelings mothers have when they send their children off on the first day of school every year.

Thanks for that. It made my day!

  14. These pictures are so beautiful and touching.
And even though I am obviously a big fan of public school, if you did decide to home school Ivy... I'd totally help you with all the curriculum stuff.

  15. Beautiful! I have a similar(internal) conversation about my daughter and homeschooling every time school comes up, which is surprisingly often given that she's six months younger than Ivy. Apparently it's already time to consider preschool admissions. But that would be too much like blinking for me!

  16. Beautiful photos. I hope they enjoy the last few days of summer and that they have a great time at school this year!

On the HS topic, I am in the middle of that decision for my girlie. So hard.Where to find the time? Energy? Do I have the sanity to do it? Oh boy!

Good luck, the good thing is you still have time...even if you blink.

  22. So much bittersweet-ness.

My own firstborn is starting kindergarten soon-soon, and I fear I have spent too much time blinking.

  23. Don't blink - trust me - I blinked and my firstborn is twelve and next time I blink he will have flown... when people say "it goes so fast" - believe them!!! I never did!!!

  24. I really love this. it's weird to have 2 girls 4 years apart- I'm always thinking about how fast things change- how quickly Em grew up and how it feels like not long ago, she was just this like this baby girl we have now. and our little baby- she won't stop growing up either!
    I'm trying not to blink.
hope it's a great school year!

  26. I blinked, and my oldest got on the bus for kindergarten today. Oh, my aching heart.

We have decided to homeschool our boys after a year in kindergarten. We want them to have a year to learn "school rules" to help make the school/home duality a little easier. I'd love to talk homeschooling with you. I have lots of sources and am always looking for NWI homeschooling parents to do things with for field trips and things.
