I've decided that August evenings at the beach are my favorite. Just like running, I feel this desire deep down, like a chain from my heart to my stomach to just go to there. And as soon as the waves are within vision, I feel relief. I am better. It called to me and I came.
[they almost always initiate the hand-holding]
[they gathered rocks in tee shirts]

Water certainly has that healing ability for the soul, doesn't it? I always feel the same way about going to the lake. I need to find time for a sandy beach yet this summer...sadly, the time is running out!!!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me want to go, like tonight! Love the pictures!
ReplyDeleteI have happy memories of going there in the evening with you and our friends- probably in August :)Lake Michigan is maybe the number one thing I miss about living in NWI. what a lovely time for your kids- and you :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. My 4yo still yells at the waves and wind to 'STOP' and sometimes I totally expect Mother Nature to comply.
ReplyDeleteAnd all that hand-holding made my heart swell.
We tried to go to the beach once this year. The beach was closed due to thunderstorms. Altho we have gone to the lake, which is totally different.
ReplyDeleteyes, the beach on these warm [and not hot!] evenings really does something for the soul. i love that we have really done summer....haven't we? i hope you feel the same...i think your kiddos do.
ReplyDeletei'm thankful for 2 more weeks and i'm thankful that we have cherished it all the way.
how fun! I wish we lived near the beach...
ReplyDeleteMy 9 year old has the same monkey shirt and my 5 year old the same alligator shirt. We must have good taste. : )
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos! There is just something about the beach, that makes everything so perfect:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful photos! Very special memories you guys are making!
ReplyDeleteI took a second look and the top picture of Ivy's legs remind me of your legs. It's like a cut down version of you.
ReplyDeleteWould you look at those cute legs - already!!! And would you look at that cool croc shirt!!! I also love the beach nights after dinner when everyone has gone home!!! And our days are slowly getting longer and the whales have arrived to have their babies... yes beach nights are the best!!!
ReplyDeleteThere really is something so amazing about the water. Just the feel of that air is healing.
ReplyDeletethis makes me miss my hometown. i grew up a block from lake michigan and could hear the waves crashing from my bedroom window.
ReplyDeletethere are plenty of small lakes in Madison, but it is nothing -- NOTHING -- like the big lake.
love these photos and the sweet spirits of your kids that shine through your shots.
goodness, you are making me want to move close to the beach!! these are perfection, steph.
ReplyDeleteHow on earth do you manage to get all four kids in the same shot? We're struggling with three, and one of them isn't super mobile yet...
