I think I was Noah's age- going into fourth grade (whoa that puts things into perspective.) And earlier that day I'd gone in for my allergy shot (I had to have them weekly, a guinea pig for who knows what now, I think they did more harm that good because...) and I had an allergic reaction. To my allergy shot.
So then they had to give me a shot of adrenaline? Or something? I can't remember all of it but what I do remember: it made me very shaky, and then I had to go on a big stage and perform, and I couldn't move my arm that had the shot, and I was supposed to do hand motions with my song.
Oh, I think my hair had turned green from being in the pool. And I had a sunburn, too.
So I just stood there, in my red and white striped jacket, blue sequined bathing suit, and sang my best, doing big motions with one arm.
You were such a little trooper. It sounds all so horrible but I am eating my breakfast and laughing. The one-armed hand motions are the best.
ReplyDeleteahhh so sweet, sad and silly. Laughing through my tears..my daughter wanted to sing her last night of VBS and had a mild fever. I let her go because she begged. Little troopers...so true! Happy 4th!

But then, I am not the type to stand in front of *anyone* and sing, so the blue sequined bathing suit and rash and sunburn and green hair and shakiness just tips me right over the edge. GO YOU for sticking it out, though! :) Love that you shared this unusual and funny memory. :)

ReplyDeleteALSO, I got allergy shots from the age of 8 until I was 22, and I had a reaction when I was 9 or so? And totally remember how scary it was and how they tore off my shirt to listen to my heart and gave me a shot to counteract the shot.
Poor baby! I remember that it was bad enough being onstage at that age without being medically crippled. Argh.

ReplyDeleteYou have a heart full of all good things...and I'm so impressed that you still got up on stage and sang your song! My brother had allergy shots for years, and they always made his sinus issues WORSE. Just another attempt at taking our money and convincing us we're ill and NEED drugs, courtesy of Big Pharma.
