True Story

One summer for a 4th of July celebration in our town I dressed up in an Uncle Sam costume and sang God Bless The USA (I Am Proud To Be An American) by Lee Greenwood.

I think I was Noah's age- going into fourth grade (whoa that puts things into perspective.) And earlier that day I'd gone in for my allergy shot (I had to have them weekly, a guinea pig for who knows what now, I think they did more harm that good because...) and I had an allergic reaction. To my allergy shot.

So then they had to give me a shot of adrenaline? Or something? I can't remember all of it but what I do remember: it made me very shaky, and then I had to go on a big stage and perform, and I couldn't move my arm that had the shot, and I was supposed to do hand motions with my song.

Oh, I think my hair had turned green from being in the pool. And I had a sunburn, too.

So I just stood there, in my red and white striped jacket, blue sequined bathing suit, and sang my best, doing big motions with one arm.
