We've been enjoying our summer.
Most days I have Noah fill up all our bottles with ice and water, and Carter goes in search of Gray's and Ivy's shoes. We head to a park. And stay as long as we can until the heat gets us or we run out of snacks.
Nothing gets done around the house. And I always say I'll get to it when they go to bed. But then, when they are all fast asleep, and I can hardly keep my own eyes open, I say I'll get to those things tomorrow.
But it's summatime. Everything moves a bit more slowly, heavy, lazy. It's like I don't even have any stories to tell. We're just moving about, happily.
We did have Chinese for dinner last night (Cantonese chow mein, Kung Po Chicken, pan fried noodles, fried rice) and here are a couple of the fortunes in our cookies (including grammatical error):
Ask yourself this question: "Is my attitude worth catching?"
and
No one is standing in your way anymore, time to moving forward.

I told my husband recently, I think we'll look back on these years (of raising children) as the best of our lives. You are creating such wonderful memories...kids playing, getting dirty, the sunshine on your faces...that housework? Forget about it. Or maybe accept that you'll live in a dirty house in exchange for happy times. (Note: I need to take my own advice.:)
ReplyDeletethere's something about summer with kids that is just infectious joy.
ReplyDeleteI love Ivy's little outfit. Who makes it?
ReplyDeletei wish i could spend a day at the park, it would be so enlightening!
ReplyDeleteSkittleSkattle,
ReplyDeleteit's from Matilda Jane, thanks!
Steph
summer is so great! I love that my kids can get dirty all day. Then, at the end of day all I have to do is hose them off :-) Glad you are having such a great summer!!
ReplyDeleteYour title reminds me of my favorite Albert Camus quote, "In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer."
ReplyDeleteI am loving these park days. I have so much to do around the house, but it's enough to remind myself that all that I need to do will still be there when I get home.
Hey I think I know that park! I'd recongnize the handprints and the pirate ship anywhere. (unless there's a copycat park somwhere) It's great. One of my fav's when we go to visit my mother-in-law.
ReplyDeleteSounds exactly like our summer.
ReplyDeleteTons of park. Very little plans.
Lots of playing and very little working.
Perfection, if you ask me. :)
What a beautiful, shady park! That in itself is a blessing!!!
ReplyDeletei love eternal summer in the heart. beautiful.
ReplyDeletei've loved seeing you all so much. we've had so many park days, friends over days and late dinners with friends as the kids run to make their own memories. i LOVE it.
Okay, so I know this isn't a very heart moving comment but I wanted to say how envious I am of your park! I love how it's shaded by those big, beautiful tree's. The parks around here are out in the wide open and it gets so wicked hot you cannot even go down the slides without burning your skin!
ReplyDeleteNell
Summertime and the living is easy. That's the way it should be.
ReplyDeleteDeep fortune cookies! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly where we are, too. That grammar comment, so funny.
ReplyDeleteI miss the days at the park and every now and again I borrow a kid and then the girls love going to the park because they can share it with someone who hasn't explored all the shaded places and swung in the perfect swing.
ReplyDeleteTime to moving forward, indeed. It's sort of more pithy that way.
ReplyDeleteHappy summer!
Yay for summer! Great pictures :-) I call this summer our "summer of picnics" because last summer I was in pain from my section and felt like it was wasted as I lay in bed and walked around like an old lady! LOL! Anyways, we are making up for it this summer! :-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
We need to be hitting the park more these days...but the heat is keeping is home.
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE fortune cookies, the fortunes never fail to amuse me and 99% of the time are right on.
Summer makes my heart happy.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos.
I think I am going to keep: "Is my attitude worth catching?" in my pocket for a couple of days - seriously!!! Have a fun weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteI need a dose of your laid back summer attitude friend. I'm feeling a tad frenzied these days. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHappy Summer!! Enjoy it and let that stuff go, you can catch up during the school year!
ReplyDeleteyour attitude is worth catching, my friend.
ReplyDeletexo
Wow look at how big Ivy's getting! I haven't been by in a while, I guess. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Summa Time to you!
Summer is our craziest and busiest time, no living easy for us. Stress, stress and more stress!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post, it lifted me up :), as all your posts do. You are one amazing mama!
So glad to hear that I'm not the only one who isn't getting anything done, except for the important summer playing. I'm hoping that the things I'm leaving undone won't catch up to me at an inopportune time!
ReplyDeleteThat playground looks amazing! Where is it? (Is it in the Playspace Finder? http://playspacefinder.kaboom.org/)
ReplyDeleteBethany,
ReplyDeleteI think it's called Friendship Park in Chesterton.
It sounds like you're living. Really LIVING. Your kids are going to treasure these days so much.
ReplyDeleteP.S. What snacks do you bring with you to the park?
