We JUST set the bunk beds up in the girls room and Drew has asked me several times now how come he doesn't get bunk beds too.

I, too, have impressive bunk-bed-sheet-changing skills after all these years, and all these boys. But it would depend--would they be giving points for speed, or accuracy? Because while I can do it fast I tend to be pretty sloppy with that top sheet and I NEVER tuck in the blanket :)

I get the "we have really cleaned enough, it looks pretty okay around here" Whenever we have our Saturday morning cleaning sessions that I make them help with.
ReplyDeleteAlso, when they get older they can change the bunkbed sheets by themselves. The Chicken does it sometimes just because she can...that and I think she thinks I live to do laundry.
ReplyDeleteI love that your life is so....normal! I just love it!! Thank you for sharing what's really going on at probably 80% of the houses with small children. We were just talking about clean sheets yesterday with my parents. It's just not a priority. It is nice to have them, but sometimes it's hard to even clean up after the messes that are made TODAY. If I'm able to get to extra things that's a miracle! On that note...today I have done the dishes and all the laundry and a little scrapbooking all while still playing with my kids and nursing a 5 month old and making lunch. Not that I'm tooting my own horn it just feels nice to remember that there are days like today where things get accomplished! :) :) :)

ReplyDeleteoh changing bunk bed sheets is so an olympic event. we have two sets at our house and though i'm not sure i'd say i'm good at it, i will say it's easier now that baby #4 is here and i'm not trying to do it hugely pregnant. that was fun...and rather hilarious, especially during those oopsies in the middle of the night! =)

(The last time I changed them, Teyla had an accident on hers the VERY NEXT DAY. I seriously debated whether we would smell the pee if I just left it for a while.)

I cannot even count the number of times I've broken a nail whilst changing sheets on the bunk bed. Worse than cleaning toilets, if you ask me...

ReplyDeleteOh, Steph, I can SO relate. The other day I told Lily we had to clean and she asked, rather excitedly, "You mean company's coming?!?" :sigh:
ReplyDeleteCarter comes up with the most interesting comments like "Are we moving." He's lived in the same house all his life - where does it get the idea you all may be moving. His imagination seems to be a lot like his Grampa's. I remember his Grampa thinking a shower was an imaginary bath.

Thank you for sharing your real life moments and allowing me to find comfort in them as they can come so close to my own at times ;) You had me at the title, by the way, and then it just kept getting better and better.
ReplyDeleteP.S. We just moved into a new house that weirdly (but wonderfully) has TWO master bedrooms. My first furniture placement decision was absolutely positively NOT to assemble the bunk bed, but to leave the beds as their own separate entities. I cannot tell you how wonderful this has been for my pregnant body as far as sheet changing goes. AND, since we got our daughter a full sized bed for her first big girl bed (intentional choice to be sure), and a little sister is due this October, I don't foresee any bunk bed acrobatics in my future for some time. Yay!!!
