My new shower curtain

ruffles

"Today I'm going to buy a new shower curtain, and new towels to hang on the towel rack. And maybe! even a new tissue cube cover. One room at a time, I think, and starting small with the bathroom is totally do-able for me, today." -me

I'm on a mission to make every single room in my [small] house my favorite.

my new shower curtain

A couple weeks ago I decided that if I was going to start at all, I'd have to start small. So, I went shopping for a new shower curtain for our upstairs bathroom and was determined not to just settle on something nice at Target. I went to every store (and online) until I found exactly what I wanted.

refresh yourself

And on a couple trips up to Chicago with friends I snatched up the perfect accessories.

clean and happy

I am not a designer, but I do love pretty things in my home. This bathroom isn't even one that guests see when they come over. But I see it every day.

best rug

And hello!

It is my new favorite.

Details: waterfall ruffle shower curtain- Urban Outfitters, typeface bathroom accessories- Pottery Barn, white SKAR shoe cabinet (one compartment for toiletries, one for cleaning supplies, and one for extra toilet paper)- Ikea, cirrus rug- CB2

Up next: the playroom (I finally chose my colors and bought the paint!)

Speaking of design, my homebirth story is featured here at Design Mom this week.

  1. Oh gosh, Steph! It's just beautiful! Like a ballerina... or a cupcake!

We don't own our home but we've really been trying to make the most of it since we plan on being here a while :)

I'd love to paint every room though!

  2. I like to think outside the [Target} box too. It came together beautifully! I love your attitude about making every room your favorite. We didn't get to pick our current house since it came with the job, but I've loved adding our own touches. Finally all of my old antiques feel at home.

Looking forward to seeing the playroom!

  11. Steph, I love this:

"I'm on a mission to make every single room in my [small] house my favorite."

I *need* to do this. We've lived in our not so new new home for almost two years and it's still not settled. I think I'm overwhelmed by the big picture and need to take it room by room.

  29. You have great taste. It looks beautiful! We're working on renovating our home. Hopefully....soon....every room (or at least a couple) will be my favorite.

  30. Gorgeous!

I think that those sorts of rooms are my favourite to do. The ones that others don't see. It's like a statement of my own self-worth. I matter, and I deserve a space that I enjoy. I'm glad you found yours!

  31. Love it Steph!
And I know what you mean. When we lived in a house that needed EVERYTHING I started with one room. Then I just wanted to be in that room but it really does help to have a place to go that makes you feel good enough to work on the rest. :)

  32. i loooove the shower curtain!!!

  33. I love it. I love the rug, too. And the little white accessories. IKEA and Pottery Barn rock. :)

I like your mission. I've been feeling that lately, too... but my house is not too small and VERY WHITE - mindnumbingly white... builder-square and empty. YUCK. I only have 2 rooms somewhat finished... and the kitchen is driving me BATTY - UGLY!

  34. I am so thankful to have come across you in this blog world, Stephanie. And least of all because you have led me to finally find the perfect answer for new curtains for Eleanor's very first bedroom!!! THANK YOU!!! I'll be purchasing two of those teal shower curtains (yes, I know they are for showers, but I am confident that I can make them work as curtains) and they will be SO fabulous for my daughter's new and very own bedroom in our new home (we're moving this Saturday!!!).

I love your love for your kids. Your daily reminders to be present and to enjoy the everyday things, or not get caught up on the (frustrating) every day things. I love that you can admit that starting small is how you'll slowly but surely make your way. And so on. I appreciate coming here and resting in the knowledge that there is another mommy out there who, by God's love and grace, is making her way and doing her very best to be the very best mommy she can be.

If we were real life friends, and if I lived near you, I'd give you a big hug!

Your bathroom is beautiful! Simple, elegant... I love it! I'd always wanted the Anthro expensive version of this curtain you've found, but I couldn't bring myself to spend the $118 or whatever it is on it, even though I loved it. ANYWAY!

    Have a great day!

  41. OMG. I adore your bathroom. Definitely thinking of stealing that shower curtain idea! I looove ruffles and my bathroom needs a makeover, too. :)

  42. It's perfect! I have a similar mission. I bought an aqua bowl at a yard sale and decided to use it as a toothbrush holder. And buy decor around it. So far, just the bowl is on the counter!

Just out of curiosity, how {small} is your home? I'm working w/ 5 people in under 1100sq ft. We're figuring it out though.

  45. This post got me so excited to move into our new house. It is basically a blank canvas that we are going to do room by room. Everything is the original so we are going to update it too slowly!!!

  46. Pottery Barn does it again. Those accessories are so awesome.

I'm so glad you love it. Or homes are our sanctuary so we NEED to make them comfortable and pretty. :)
