That's just the way it is.

don't take a picture of me
[meant to be a photo of Gray, but camera focused on Ivy.
He was hiding his face from the camera anyway...]

In the car Grayson told me he wants to be a doctor when he grows up. The kind that checks you out, you know, like when Noah has a turn, then Carter, then me? (pediatrician)

Or I could be a girl doctor that takes the blood. (nurse, at last visit I had some blood drawn.)

I'll go to school and the doctor will teach me and then he'll give me his clothes and I'll put them on and then I'll be a doctor!

[snuck one in.]

Somedays I feel like I've just put on big girl clothes, Mom clothes, grown-up clothes. But I'm still just a kid.

  1. Don't you just love kids descriptions. It makes everything that much more exciting!

  2. I often feel the same way. How did I grow up so fast? All 3 of these kids are mine? It's funny how kids put so much stock in a job solely around the "costume", as my kids say it.

  5. Gray's anecdotes always make me smile! When my baby brother was much younger (he's 16 last week!) he would say that when he grew up he was going to come live with me, and drive a car to get groceries and watch my kids. He didn't want to get married and have kids of his own, he wanted to drive to the grocery store (that was his most excited part). Now I wish he was still that little.

Steph, I love how much you keep track of with your kids, these will be great recorded memories down the road. It might even keep you sane through the teen years!

  23. Love the first photo-even with Gray hiding in the background. We must show you how to pick your point of focus when taking photos with your fancy camera. I will remind you this weekend.

And I have been wearing the mom clothes for over 15 years now and some days it feels like they belong to someone else, ya know.

  24. So cute. And funny how the camera is trained to focus on Ivy...old habits die hard. :-)

My 5yo recently changed his career aspirations from doctor to school bus driver, because "With all that workin', I think I would miss my kids, like Daddy misses me so much." (Which, upon hearing, broke his Daddy's overworked resident heart just a little bit.

  27. Somedays I feel like I've just put on big girl clothes, Mom clothes, grown-up clothes. But I'm still just a kid. Yes -- this! There are days where I just wonder how on Earth anyone thought it was a good idea to give me all this responsibility...I still feel like a kid myself most days!

I love your son's descriptions of being a doctor. I used to teach preschoolers, and loved hearing what they wanted to be when they grew up.
