On Waiting

kids

We do a lot of waiting around here.

We wait for the school bus in the morning, wait for it to bring brothers home in the afternoon. I wait for the dryer to buzz, the mail to come, for Fridays and paydays and for what's around the corner.

It's felt like we're waiting for a lot more than usual lately, for something up ahead, not sure, maybe it's the new year or too much busy-ness. Waiting, waiting with anticipating takes away from the rich living in the right now.

waiting

Tonight I drank hot chocolate with a spoon, and Kelly's homemade marshmallows (another birthday gift). I should do this more. What am I waiting for?

  3. My husband and I were convicted of this recently ... realising that if we focus too much on the "what is to come" we miss God's good gifts he's given us right now. Hope and anticipation is good, but not at the expense of rejoicing in the moment.

  4. I am waiting for the weekend to arrive. My hubby and kids are going away to visit some family and I'll have the house all to myself!!!!

  5. Our family has been waiting for over three-and-a-half years to adopt a second time from China. It's been a long, long, LONG wait. And that's pretty much all I can say about it.

  6. Oh, I kept waiting for things to get better, they never did. New things just became wrong so I did more waiting.

I also would have waited until I had a really good reason to use my smelly bath salts I got for Christmas. They would have just been forgotten, so I used them and I loved them.

Waiting is for people who don't realize just how good right now is.

  7. So true Steph. I really loved this post. And I love my daughter who posted it! I didn't want to wait to say that.

  8. Winter is a time for snuggling down and just being still. When spring arrives, there isn't nearly as much waiting (or peaceful moments to drink with a spoon) so I try to treasure the waiting when it's winter...

  9. Great post Steph.
We've been talking about this at our house too. It isn't just waiting for the fun stuff, we've also realized we can't wait around to put in the effort in un-fun areas. And you know what? When the un-fun stuff is done, I have the same feeling you have with your hot chocolate: this is good, what was I waiting for?

  12. Good thoughts for a Friday. Breathe in the moment and enjoy. It seems I am always waiting for the next milestone for my kids. Sitting, crawling, walking, talking, I need to stop waiting for the next step and enjoy the now. Enjoy your weekend with your family.

  14. I feel like I'm constantly waiting for change, either in myself or in my world. It can be frustrating. I find that I spend so much time waiting that I don't appreciate what I already have.

    Great post...

  16. I do this too.

There can be strength in waiting, hope in waiting.

But so often, it's really more of a distant living-in-the-future.

I want to treasure my TODAY.

(For the record, we are still waiting for our old house to sell. It's been on the market 3 years now. I'm learning a lot about waiting.)
