True Beauty

So, where does true beauty lie? Can it be found in the tired eyes of a mother who was up with her sick child? It's there. Even she sees it in the creases, in the tears she holds back, as she glances at herself when she walks by the bathroom mirror, through the streaks as she cleans it, wipes away. Something on her list accomplished. One dirty mirror, one dirty towel, one dirty dish at a time.

Sigh.

Pity party is over folks, it's closing time.

Nothing like having a friend threaten to come over and do all your laundry and deep clean your house (I swear I might not let her in) to light a fire under my butt. I have actually been doing laundry since six this morning and am almost all caught up. I am feeling a lot better and I'm also feeling motivated. I am also under the influence of a raspberry truffle frappe that Lovelyn brought me.

Oh, Love. She just got back from her trip to Uganda and I still haven't had the chance to sit down with her but please go watch her story. It's not long, but you might want to grab some tissues. (You will even catch a glimpse of some beautiful babywearing.)

(And while I was writing this, Erin left a GROCERY BAG (a re-usable one, at that) on my doorstep of goodies, including ice cream and fresh berries and bread and spinach dip and oh em gee.) And I also told Sarah to stay away when she offered to bring me coffee and visit and Donya sent me a huge sappy email of love while she waits to pop out that baby.)

I am loved. I know this. Thank you.

  2. God sure knows when to send that encouragement through our friends! I sit here looking at the mess that is my house and cannot imagine how to get moving and get it done with Jessica tearing things out right behind me or off getting into something while I am trying to move laundry or something. I too am getting over a cold and had sick kids...that croup monster has been at our house for the passed 2 weeks barking its way through the 4kids.
I am now encouraged to tackle the to do list.
    Happy Friday!

  10. It sounds like you've had a rough morning! But it's so true that beauty is in the moments of strife as much as the great ones. When we persevere through days that feel like they will never end or get through that huge amount of laundry it allows us to realize part of our beauty lies in the strength to survive this craziness!

And aren't friends great? I think they are truly the angels God uses to lift us up.

  17. What great friends!! I hope you get all caught up and all better soon! That Uganda story is something. When I was there, I noticed that every mom is a babywearer - and sister, and brother, and auntie and so on. And those kiddos are well adjusted, resilient, happy, and adorable!! :)

  18. Just remember that whenever you're down, we'll pick you up. Always. I hope you took Beth up on her offer. I'm still regretting not taking her up on an offer to clean after Tommy was born!
