On finishing what you've started even if it's pretty messed up.

A couple weeks ago I was having one of those lives days and mentioned that I knitted up a dress for Ivy that I didn't like so I started over with a new yarn. Robin commented and encouraged me to finish the one I didn't like. That it might be good for me. Groan.

So I did. And even though it looks kinda nice on the Internet, if you saw it in person it has many flaws, but it did turn out quite beautiful anyway.

Maybe tomorrow I'll share a photo of the "new yarn" one. I'm very proud of both.

  3. that is so cute, and I'm not a perfectionist at all, I actually kinda find flaws charming - especially on things old or handmade.

    Curious - how long did it take you to knit up? I really want to learn to knit so I'm interested in how long it takes experienced knitters to finish small projects like this.

  4. If I had UNINTERRUPTED time (what's THAT?) I could probably easily knit this in a day. It's very easy. I just worked on it here and there when I'd watch TV or wait in the car for something.

    I had taken a class a few years ago learning to make a whole sweater, so I found this to be very easy compared to that but used some of the things I learned for this pattern. If you can, I say take a class or two!

    I'm still only at scarf level of knitting and seeing the stuff you do inspires me to keep practicing :)

  8. It's cute! You should just be proud that God gave you the gift to be able to knit. I've tried to do it a million times and I can't seem to be able to get it right.

  20. I think it looks great! Can you share the pattern? I'd love to try my hand at something like that! Someone told me the day before my wedding "if something goes wrong don't worry and don't react, only YOU will know, everyone else will just be happy to be at a wonderful event!" . . . don't worry about the errors, sometimes the best things in the world are the happy little mistakes!!!! imagine how boring a "perfect" life would be, blah! :-)

  21. I've heard that you have a choice when you make a mistake to rip it out or leave it believing spirit enters a handmade object by way of an imperfection. This "mistake" is actually a pathway for spirit to enter the work. Therefore do not point out your mistakes since they are now opportunities.

  22. It is cute! I've never tried knitting... I do a bit of crochet and some sewing, but I leave the knitting to my Grandma and my sister.

  25. Definitely finishing what you started is good. I had so many unfinished crochet wip's that I (in a moment of stress) threw away my entire yarn stash. :( And now I'm learning to knit, and I am much happier with my results, so I'm motivated to finish what I start. I'm currently knitting a blanket for my almost here baby :)

  31. I love it! Where did you get the pattern?? This is the style I want to knit for my baby girl due in Feb. I've been knitting up a storm lately for my son - just designed a pumpkin hat for him - came out so cute!

  32. I think it looks great!

    I've found that the longer I keep something, the less I see its flaws. It's the same way with home improvement. When I finish a project, all I can see are the parts I don't like. Once I've used it for a while, though, those don't seem as noticeable. I hope that you feel that way about the dress, somewhere down the line. :)

  43. I'm totally impressed that you can make something so darn cute! I'm trying my first project other than a scarf or afghan square - we'll see how badly I can mangle a sock. :)
