The boys trotted up the stairs with their too long legs in their too short pajama pants. We prayed together. For the first day of school, for kindness and gentleness and to be loving, and to make the right decisions. Father God, help us to sit right like Miss Brenda tells us on the bus. We were thankful for new beginnings. I even put new sheets on the beds.
We all are ready for a new beginning.
I'll surprise them with their favorite breakfast and treats in their lunchboxes. In a week the novelty will wear off and we'll just make do with what we have on hand that morning.
But this day.
This day is a new beginning. This day deserves the fanfare and a photo and a little extra squeeze in my hug, Off you go.
Off you go now.

Okay, now I'm crying and my boys don't even start until next Monday. I also work at the school and will get to see my youngest everyday at lunch. I hadn't let it hit me until I saw the gorgeous photo and read your sweet perspective.
ReplyDeleteHang in there, Mom. We're all in the same boat to pass hugs around.
Great now I'm tearing up (again), that was beautiful. I am not ready for back to school, not ready for them to grow up so fast, but so proud of the wings they are developing. The picture was also very sweet your boys standing together.
ReplyDeleteThere is this inside saying that a friend and I have when the other feels washed by blessing because of the other.
ReplyDeleteIt's a secret thing, but I'm thinking it about you right now.

ReplyDeleteNext year I'm sending my oldest off to kindergarten. I am already feeling very wistful. It feels so ... BIG.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to your boys, and to you, on the new beginning.
Wow, your boys look so big! I am stating to "get it." Kids in school is pretty cool, especially for moms. I had no idea.
ReplyDeleteThey look so big! When I start school in January, can you come give me an extra squeeze before I leave?
ReplyDeleteHope they had a great day.

I hope they had a wonderful first day!! This time of year is officially not my favorite now that my little ones are school age... Boo hoo! :(
ReplyDeleteMy boys are one and two and already they're getting so big. I know school is right around the corner and I'll have a similar photo of them then. Happy first day boys!
ReplyDeleteOff they go!
