So I got a new camera.
Over a week ago I ruined mine- it wasn't anything super special but was a great camera for me (a Canon Powershot SX110is). I had hoped to upgrade to a nicer one- maybe even an SLR but we just can't afford that right now. And believe me I was trying to work the numbers.
Friday night I couldn't wait any longer. I had a gift card that could buy the same camera I just broke. That would do. I know how to use it, and it was a good camera. I was tempted SO tempted to upgrade to a Nikon D60 then and there because they had a really good deal, but I'd have to go into debt for it, even if it wasn't that much, it was what I didn't have. And Noah had holes in his shoes. Holes! So I bought my "new" old camera with the gift card and had enough left over to get him the shoes he really wanted for back to school.
I know in my heart I did the right thing.
But the story, oh story, doesn't end here...

ReplyDeleteI think u did the right thing. I really think you will enjoy a point and shoot more than an SLR. I mean dont get me wrong you would of loveeed an SLR for its speed and such.. but for what you are using it for your current camera is just fine!

ReplyDeleteTne fact that you waited that long to buy a new camera impresses me. Every time we have broken a camera (sadly it has happened several times) we immediately go buy a new one. The camera being the one thing we ALWAYS want.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to do the right thing sometimes, but you did. In the end, it's not the camera that matters. It's what you take with it. Your kids are beautiful!

My husband recently went from working 45 hours a week to almost 70, and I'm having a really hard time not spending the money that he's working for when I'm lonely and without him- he's working to pay off our debt, and it's SO hard not to just go and have fun with the $$...Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteLove that first pic of Carter! And the dress? Love it... I've got one almost identical that they did a couple years back, it's blue (almost the same blue as each one of my three girls' eyes).

I think your camera takes really nice shots anyway. I like a point and click camera for certain situations. I still use my Canon PowerShot.

ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to wait sometimes. There are sooo many things I'd like to have (like bedroom furniture), but those are the things we want not need. You did well!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute pictures of super cute kiddos! You probably did the right thing- a point and shoot is so handy with sticky fingers grabbing at it all the time. And maybe Nikon will get the hint about the coveted D60 someday… I want one, too, after hanging out in the Shutter Sisters suite at BlogHer!!!

ReplyDeleteyou totally did the right thing. our whole series at church right now is about americans and what God thinks about debt. it is so true that what we want is usually not what we need. "even if it wasn't that much, it was what i didn't have." amen.

ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat with the camera. Want the Nikon D60, but can't complain about my powershot. And since I'm not working right now, food and bills come before new camera...sigh.

I know the temptation all to well. I've tried to crunch those numbers for an upgrade more times than I can count. But, your pictures are still beautiful even if the camera isn't the one of your dreams.
