I had a feeling, though, that it was one of those movies that he would find unexpectedly good, and it did NOT disappoint.
I thought about when we were dating (albeit short- we were engaged within 3 months) he would have acted excited to see anything I wanted to, and I would have been the same. But after almost 10 years of marriage, we're a little bit more obvious with our real intentions and opinions on most matters.
There were several moments where we laughed out loud and, since we were seeing it in 3D, we'd look at each other in the big funky glasses and laugh some more.
Today he took the baby and wore her in the mei tai outside while I worked in the house on some things. And right now he's wearing her downstairs while she naps.
He does it because he knows I like when she's held close, and she likes it, too. And most of all, he loves wearing her.
I love that we share this passion.
Things aren't always perfect. Often, far from perfect. But still so many things are good. So many things add up, and speak louder than words and actions and...
I'm not really sure how to end this post. I wasn't even going to write it, but for me, it needed to be written.
No matter where you are at, whatever you're in, imagine and hope that it might end up being unexpectedly good.
I hope it doesn't disappoint.

oh I love it when hubby wears the babies too. He wears the backpack all the time... and now the Ergo.

Aw, that's so sweet! My husband and I saw Up, too, and we loved it. I love your blog, btw. :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this post. I have been cherishing my husband more than ever lately.
ReplyDeleteHubby will not even try the baby carriers - he will use the dreaded snugli in a pinch (after all he wants Baby Sister to be happy) but he will not do it for himself. I keep trying to get him to but he is stubborn. But he is a great dad and a terrific husband so I cannot complain if he does not do everything exactly as I do.
ReplyDeleteawe, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteman, there are SO many movies I want to see right now!
My husband is like that with many things I suggest. He's not thrilled about doing it, but he'll do it for me, or for the kids. And he, too, often ends up pleasantly surprised about how much he enjoyed the thing.
ReplyDeleteMy husband would not wear the baby. He DID wear our oldest, but now the slings I have are pink, and that's probably asking a little much.
What a perfect post for today. I needed something like that!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post Steph. I love finding warm moments when you least expect it, for lack of better words :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a date night!! How lovely!
Thanks for this post--my husband and I keep saying that our relationship just gets better and better each year we're together. Sometimes I tend to forget that, though ... I need an occasional gentle reminder of how very blessed I am to have him in my life! (Oh, and I love the title--Twoo Wuv, anyone?)
ReplyDeleteThis post was so sweet!
ReplyDeleteAnd we are Pixar people, so we'll probably spend date nights seeing their films until we're old and gray :)
This is great...just tonight I was sitting with my hubby, holding our son on his shoulders while we watched a camp video he had just finished editing...and the song in it was supposed to be totally corny with the funny video...it was "What a Wonderful World" (which is a great song, but it was meant to be corny in his silly video...anyway...) it brought tears to my eyes as I watched my son play with his daddy's hair & agreed with the song. :) Everyday moments CAN be extraordinary. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and my hubby used to wear our frame backpack when our son was little...I'm not sure he's tried the patapum...but I think he would if absolutely necessary...and he flat- out refuses to use the wrap or the ring sling, even though they're neutral colors. :) Guys are so funny, aren't they? :)
ReplyDeleteThis made me want to do two things... watch The Princess Bride and stop and think about the good things in my marriage, too. I love this post, and I am so, so glad you worked up the courage to post it.
ReplyDeleteThere has been a sudden rush of divorces from the people we are very close to and it has left the hubby and I confused, depressed, and frustrated. I think we feel like the whole world is going crazy.
ReplyDeleteI wish people knew that nothing is perfect and that everything takes work. Life isn't about being happy all the time, and when you stick through the hard times many times you are pleasantly surprised at how good it all turns out.
It was so nice to read this post. It really made me smile. :)
I loved up. I can't remember seeing any movie ("kid" movie or otherwise) that brought me to tears within the first ten minutes! Seriously, that opening sequence was breathtakingly beautiful and it actually made me even more appreciative of the love my husband and I share. Cherish the ones you love!
ReplyDeleteHooray for a date night for you two! It is lovely to be silly together and just laugh because it stirs such closeness.
ReplyDeleteAnd babywearing daddies -- aww. I love them and what they are doing for their kiddos. I love my own for being so on board.
Thanks for this post - I've been reading your blog since it was the featured blog on Chicago Tribune's site. Your posts bring tears to my eyes because they are so well-written and brave. So often you can put into words exactly how I am feeling. You have a wonderful gift with your words. Your family is also beautiful! Thank you so much for having the courage to open your heart to strangers.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts about my Hubbie too! Such a sweet and Great post!!!
ReplyDeleteI love going to see kids movies! haha. :) And how fabulous that your hubby shares your love of babywearing. I love that.
ReplyDeleteHubs has not worn any of our children, but I love seeing him spend a lot of time snuggling with them. He carries our newest one around a lot. Maybe if my sling wasn't so feminine. LOL
ReplyDeletePS- We watch kids movies too. :)
What a beautiful post! As someone who is soon to enter "Mawiage, what bwings us togetha todayyy" I loved reading this. What a blessing!
ReplyDeleteHow nice of you to write about marriage on my anniversary ;-)
ReplyDeleteLoved this, as I'm sure he did too...
It was an awesome movie. We took the kids to see it yesterday and while I cried, Brian held Mia in one arm and my hand over BJ's seat. I think it's a perfect date night movie.
ReplyDeleteYour husband sounds like an amazing man!
ha! your post title is cracking me up!! my two year old little guy watches PB a couple times a week and walked up to me the other day and said "twooo wuuvvv" with a huge grin on his face!! true love indeed...
ReplyDeletehe is actually next to me today 'sick' and enjoyin our baby who is truly sick. He doesnt always agree with attachment aprenting etc but on the other hand he always enjoy wearing him hehe- he is contradicting yes!
ReplyDeleteLovely post!
ReplyDeleteWhat we think marriage will be and what it ends up being are so hilariously different - but if we're lucky, the differences are BETTER.
I LOVE when I see hubbies wearing babies. I started making slings after my second daughter was born. Dave didn't think it was for him until he couldn't get Ellie to stop crying and discovered the sling was what worked! Now he is part of the Keiki Kuddlerz sling making team! We are both very passionate about baby wearing! He's even a better salesman at EXPOS than I am!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post! I love watching my husband wear our daughter too. He's a SAHD now and everday I come home to a happy baby and happy dad, the camera full of the fun things they've done together.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be married 4 years in a couple of weeks, (engaged after 3 months like you) and it just keeps getting better.
