We spent most of our morning and early afternoon at the park. Ivy had her first swing ride and I also did some more experimenting with the woven wrap (woowoomama's didymos). This is my make-shift version of the front wrap cross carry... I tied it on too loose and the shoulders are probably wrong but I just kept wrapping and tucking until she felt all secure and in the right spot. And she was very fast asleep.

(Jaymi met us at the park and was kind to snap the pictures!)
I am getting really excited about a little project I put my blog friend Kim (Prairie Mama) to work on. I was simplifying my closet recently and had a few t-shirts that I know I'll never be able to wear again but I just couldn't part with. So I had the idea to make them into outfits for Ivy... I can't wait to see what Kim comes up with! (She's already sent me teaser emails!) I took a before pic and will for sure share the final pieces, with Ivy modeling, of course.
By the way, Kim just had to delete her Twitter account and start a whole new one, so please be sure you are following her now: @prairiemama .
I'm still enjoying the great response to Monday's post about my family size. Another blog friend, Kalee at Un Vie Chic just posted about wanting to start with child #1 and is looking for your tips on how to even begin to plan for that first baby. Could you stop by and encourage her with your tips?
Oh! And very important- I'll plan to do a link up this Friday so that we all can share our babywearing stash- this time around I think I'll just be featuring the carriers that I use right now, but who knows. They're all so pretty I might just photograph them all! Please play along and come back here Friday to link up. (Even if you only have one you really love, we want to see it!)

I can't wait to see the after pics! I have a Shins t-shirt that I love and it would be GREAT as a tiny T for my little Pineapple...alas I have NO idea how to creat such a thing and my friends are crafty enough to pull it off either - OK, maybe one of them but she's always so busy!
ReplyDeleteIs Ivy really this big? What a perfect day for the park. I can't wait to see the creation she comes up with for the T's.
ReplyDeleteI love the purple of that wrap! I must admit anything other than a ring sling looks intimidating to me, but i love the way that wraps look.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a clever idea for the tees! Can't wait to see the final result. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the t-shirt idea. I've been thinking about taking some of my husband's old college tee's and turning them into sleepers for my son.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see Ivy's new outfits!!!
Great idea about making Ivy clothing out of your tshirts!
ReplyDeleteAnd look at you all dressed up for the park. I'm a total slob in my tshirt and shorts! lol
Nell
Sigh. I'm still on the fence about buying a woven wrap. So far, my boy has not taken too well to the sling...what if I spend all that money and he just doesn't like being carried altogether?
ReplyDeleteThat idea rocks. (the T-shirt thing)
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for bringing up Kim's twitter problem. I don't know why I'm thanking you, since I'm not her...but maybe it's just because I love her :)
Looking forward to Friday! Thanks for your comment - I found exactly what I was looking for. Can't wait to try it out tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteOh wow -- I'm looking forward to Gretchen's first swing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for telling people about my twitter woes. I miss all of the people I was following and that were following me. It was very sad to just delete that account.
ReplyDeleteI am almost done with the 4th dress, they are SO stinking cute. LOVE THEM.
what a great idea however dony know anyone to do such changes sigh i will pass by tomorrow and link up for sure
ReplyDeleteThat wrap is so pretty!!! I love purple. Big Sister loves the park and the swings. I'll play along on Friday. I just have to get Hubby to take some pictures for me.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me you're bringing her to BlogHer? I have to get my hands on her before she starts riding a bike... Those cheeks and roly thighs!
ReplyDeleteWe keep thinking maybe we'll make a quilt with our old t-shirts. My problem is that I have tended to wear the ones I REALLY love until they are threadbare. And then they are no good for anything - even as a rag (they disintegrate as you rub).
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to try out a wrap like that. Doubt I'll get around to it before tomorrow though!
I can't wait to see the outfits for Ivy!! What a great idea!! I love my wrap, but I always think he is too heavy for it and that it is stretching. Maybe I'll try it again, because I love the way it feels and he feels very secure in it!
ReplyDeletesteph, the emotional reaction i had to seeing ivy in that wrap was amazing. i got really into woven wraps with my first son and so i knew i wanted something special for the pea when she was coming. when i was pregnant with her i treated myself to this wrap because i had read grea reviews of this particular weave (wrap geek talk) as being thin and supportive. it was a white and purple wrap and i didn't like all the contrast in it (not me) so i asked jenn (www.pieceofcloth.com) to dye it for me and we came up with a color i would love. and i do love that wrap. i love love love it.
ReplyDeletei have wrapped my daughter in that wrap from the day she was born until i sent it to you guys and i have always loved it. it is rugged and beat up able and it has gotten so soft and well broken in and i love the color and it makes me think of my baby girl.
anyway, sorry to go on and on. i am such a sap. but i wanted to say thank you for posting the pic because it looks beautiful on you guys and it feels really nice to be sharing it with someone.
in fact...i think i am inspired to start something new...
I LOVE that idea - making kid clothes from adult t-shirts! we have tons of shirts that we don't wear anymore - band shirts and that sort of thing - and it would be HILARIOUS to have them made into clothes for the kids.
ReplyDeleteI vote for pictures of all the carriers. Curious minds! Curious minds! (Or nosey minds).
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo of you and Ivy!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that idea of turning your clothes into baby clothes! Makes it much easier to part with some items without completely parting with them =)
ReplyDeleteThat's a very pretty wrap.
ReplyDeleteI just love the idea of the clothes out of your clothes. I can't wait to see what Kim does!
I barely have a stash these days. I'm down to 2 1/2 (the half is because it's currently posted for sale). My days of bwing are dwindling.
BTW - I blamed you in my post today. ;)
Ivy looks very happy in her purple wrap!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful picture and a gorgeous wrap!
ReplyDeleteI am glad I stumbled across your blog! I am getting ready to have my first baby due Sept. I am so excited and I plan on wearing her everywhere. Its so nice to run across others that feel this is important and I am looking forward to reading through your posts to get some tips on wraps and and other methods.
ReplyDeleteStephanie,
ReplyDeleteNo doubt you will find this post odd. But since I see your interested in Christianity I thought I'd ask your opinion on this.
I've never been shy about being nude in women's locker rooms. I'm in no way trying to flaunt my body, I just never felt a need to hide my body from other females in a locker room. We all have the same parts and no one has anything that the others don't also have. I'm heterosexual, so obviously I get no sexual thrill by having other women see me nude.
I prefer to blow dry my hair and do my makeup before I get dressed so I don't sweat in my blouse or smear makeup on it by accident.
Recently I was at the gym and I was doing my hair in the mirror. I had had a towel wrapped around my waist, but it fell off of me while I was doing my hair and I had no intention of putting a towel back on that had just been on the wet locker room floor. So I just stood there nude and continued to do my hair.
All of a sudden a woman approached me and asked me if I'm a Christian. I said that I am Christian but that I don't go to church on a regular basis. She then said that I was being un-Christian like by being nude in front of other women.
Like I mentioned, I'm never trying to flaunt my body for anyone else, and I'm not sexually attracted to women. In my opinion there's nothing un-Christian like about being nude in a women's locker room. Actually, I think it's pretty innocent and it's nice to be able to let down your defenses and be able to be comfortably nude with other females without there being men around and the nudity having anything to do with sex.
Stephanie, what's your honest opinion about locker room nudity? Do you think that a woman's comfort level in a locker room is a religious matter at all? I probably should just forget about what that woman said to me, but unfortunately it does bother me.
I apologize for hijacking your thread. But I would greatly appreciate your honest opinion.
Karen
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteWell, I've never really thought about that but I have to say I would never think that locker room nudity would have anything to do with being a Christian or not!! In front of the opposite sex/sexual orientation? Maybe that could raise questions of "looseness".
And to be honest I only *wish* I was that comfortable being undressed in that type of situation- so I kinda admire you for that!
Steph
Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reply!
Personally I thought that woman was ridiculous and taking things to an extreme. But I guess I tend to worry too much about what others think about me and say to me? I know I should just forget about it.
Since I am heterosexual, and since I know that I'm never trying to showoff my body, there's nothing remotely sexual about me being nude in locker rooms or other women being nude in locker rooms. I wish that everyone realized that just because someone is comfortable in a state of undress in a same gendered locker room that there's nothing sexual about it. From what I've read in the bible I'm under the impression that non-sexual nudity was very common and never shocking in biblical times?
As for you and your comfort level in locker rooms...Your cute as a button from what I can see in your photos. You probably imagine negative things about your body that most other women would never think is unattractive in the least. I'm sure you would quickly get past any shyness in the women's locker room if you tried.
Thanks again so much for the kind reply. and again I apologize for hijacking your thread.
Karen
Looks like a fun day! Ivy is sweet in that swing.
ReplyDeleteJen
That swing picture is wonderful. I always find that action shots are hard to get "just right."
