I will always and forever be on seizure alert. He was making me a nervous wreck.
I've thought all the hype about the H1N1 craziness was just that- crazy. I haven't paid attention or given it one thought. Which also means I had no idea what the swine flu really was. And here I have a sickly child on my lap and, well, what if?
So I Googled swine flu symptoms.
Only AFTER I called the pediatrician's and the very rude nurse was very put off by my very worried call. She assumed he had one of the viruses going around and it's probably not the virus you are seeing all over the tv.
And only then is when I started to consider it. Thanks, nurse.
I didn't make him an appointment and instead I went and got my hair cut and then wrote about it here.
(Gray woke up fine and seems to be doing better.) Nothing slows that kid down.

I will admit, I also Googled the symptoms. I think it's good to be informed. Also, I felt really icky.
ReplyDeleteits ok. i have been reading everything about swine flu because i have a paramedic hubby (aka sees sick people all the time) and a 6 week old newborn.
ReplyDeleteI think it actually would have been irresponsible for you to not at least know when you had a sick kid.
Glad he is feeling better and it was just a 24 hour thing.
I Googled it too because I thought Troy and Zoe straight up had it last week. After a trip to Urgent Care and time off from school, they don't. Just some weird virus that was going around in CO. Troy still has a nasty cough.
ReplyDeleteAnd Gray is precious! Hope he feels better.
It's ok to be nervous. As long as you're not slaughtering pigs and selling Purell on the black market!
ReplyDeleteLame about the nurse at the Dr. office. It's her JOB to talk to people about these things. Sheesh.
I'm sorry about the rude nurse! I never understand rudeness from people who are supposed to be helping people. Your mom's hair horror story made my smile (after I got over the horror of contemplating it happening to me.) And your hair looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteBetter safe than sorry. Glad Gray is feeling better. Have fun with your mom tonight.
ReplyDeleteI googled it too :)!! LOL. All three of my little ones were sick. And I too wasnt really sure what it was exactly.
ReplyDeleteSwine flu is making the rounds here so I've googled it too! Fortunately we have a very good Pediatrician's office and the nurse I had to talk to was really nice and responsive!
ReplyDeleteYou had a right to be concerned. She shouldn't have been rude. We've had the stomach flu going around our house. When it first started I googled the Swine flu too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're not the only one. I did the same thing yesterday. Carson and I have a nasty cold and some flu symptoms, but luckily we are on the mend. I hate being sick when it's nice outside. At least rain or something.
ReplyDeleteI looked it up too! :) Owen was sick yesterday, and I just had to know! Glad to hear Gray is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteI Googled it too. I found the information to be entirely unhelpful, as was my doctor's office. We seem to be on the upswing, so I'll just go ahead and assume it was "just a cold."
ReplyDeleteGray looks like a grown up little boy...so cute! Glad he is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteThis is the only upside to being a total hermit..no worries about swine flu. :P
ReplyDeleteReally though, it's not as severe as they're making it out to be.
I think we're all safe.
That you had to Google the symptoms is what surprises me. Everywhere I turn, someone -- the schools, the school district, the dentist, the FARMER'S MARKET!! -- is giving me the symptoms in writing.
ReplyDeleteme, too. Last week. :) I'm feeling better about it all now....the media has made it HUGE as usual.
ReplyDeleteHere is a link - Swine Flu: Fact or Fiction!!

Worth reading!
An adorable picture!
that is a fantastic picture, holy cow, I love it.
ReplyDeleteI have also worried about swine flu also. Amelia has been sick for almost a week now -- she got a virus and then got dehydrated and won't eat or drink to rehydrate herself. So, I was worried for a few minutes...well about that and diabetes. The things these kids do to us ;)
I saw your Tweet on the nurse's response yesterday, and I was so annoyed for you. What a snotty response.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine all the calls doctor's offices are getting about the swine flu but seriously, a little courtesy to a worried mother would be nice! Glad he is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteOh, I've TOTALLY googled the symptoms- and my kids aren't even sick! I'm all about preparedness. :)
ReplyDeleteThe first thought I had was: good old regular influenza makes so many people sick annually (and what's even worse - it kills so many!)... Why is everyone frantic over several hundred cases when thousands get sick from the regular kind every year?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe those Oprah hair experts admonished your mother. So what if she fell asleep? WHO BUZZ CUTS SOMEONE'S HAIR LIKE THAT?! I mean, seriously, come on!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love the picture of Gray on the chair =) And if the nurse had said that to me? I'd have googled the symptoms too.
Oh hon, what is it with people who go into service jobs, especially nursing {where the idea is to take care of people, yes?!?} that have no people skills?!
ReplyDelete{{hugs}}
Glad Gray is feeling better!
