Adventures In Dishwashing

Last night I told hubby that I am clocking out until Sunday. Maybe it was more like I AM CLOCKING OUT UNTIL SUNDAY! Because I did say it in an email. And I meant it. I need a break from being Mom.

So of course I have already breakfasted all four kids and am about to start on the dishes. Again. This just in: Mom doesn't get breaks. After all these years we still don't have a union?

The other day the only way I was going to get the crazy pile of dirty kitchen in order was to wear Ivy on my back. I've resisted back-carrying her mainly because she has this thing for my hair. She thinks it's her lovey and she bites it and chews it and holds on and pulls for dear life. I wasn't looking forward to the plentitude of it she'd have if I just let her go to town back there.

But what do I know? She didn't even notice my hair the entire time she was hanging out back there.

I heard that some of you had troubles voting the other day and I would love if you'd try again (click here) and let me know if you still can't vote! The grand prize is a laptop and I am one of 10 in the running to win it . Voting ends next Thursday when the winner is announced!

I don't know what I'd do if I win!

I might have to come up with something. Suggestions?

Anyway- please vote if you haven't already and if you want to tell everyone you know by email or Twitter I will not stop you.

  1. My kids will get a hold of my hair and hold on for dear life. I'm always amazed at the strength in those little hands. Man! Can they ever puuuuullllll . . . Still, I need to get out my backpack and stick James in it. It's the only way I'm going to get things done in the afternoon, when all he wants is me. The only problem is that everyone else wants/needs me too.

  2. I voted this morning with now trouble, it ran a little slowly - but went through. I hope you win - what a great prize!

  3. Kam already loves my hair. Actually all of my girls did.

I voted a couple of days ago, and am assuming I can only vote once. I say, if for some reason you *don't* win, we should all pool together . . . you REALLY should have a laptop :)

  4. Sugar likes to "brush" my hair after I already have it put up... that gets interesting!

I'm in the midst of attacking an evil pile of dishes (ok - so this is my 5 minute break between dishwasher and handwashing) I had to wait until Sugar and her Daddy laid down together to take a nap...we need a union - I wouldn't ask for much just a couple of hours off every now and then with a girls weekend away maybe once a year!

  5. I would join your union! I blogged about this and you because I totally understand! :)

And I do hope you get the laptop!

  6. I tried to vote but said I had already voted. Pretty soon you can give Ivy a dish cloth and she will help you.

  7. I love back-wearing my son - my hair is longer now, so he pulls it sometimes, but there are just so many more interesting things going on, he forgets about it usually. :) It's really nice for working in the kitchen. :)

Also, I have a suggestion: when you win your laptop, you can do a giveaway - of the laptop!!! :) haha, I am hilarious when Z has kept me up all night, don't you think? :)

  10. I voted the other day and was able to do it twice, but today when I went there it said I'd already voted on this poll....

Let us know if this glitch gets fixed so we can vote more than once.
I'll be happy to go back and try again...that's what friends are for right. :)

  11. I hope you get a break, even for an hour or two.

And the back carry can sometimes be a lifesaver but sometimes it takes away my excuse to not get anything done!

  14. Thanks for being honest about the LARGE PRINT "I need a vacation" vent to your husband. I didn't realize there were others out there like me ... ;)

  16. I just went to the site, voted again and it went right through. I guess you can vote more than once, if you are lucky. Good luck on getting a moms union. I've been trying for 34 years!

  19. An old friend of mine has a daughter who is obsessed with her hair, too.

She is adorable, and you look so cute in your glasses. Really!

As far as getting no breaks, and needing one, and there not being a union yet...umm, yeah. I so feel you on it all.

  20. Oh yes, I understand wanting, no needing, to clock out. We really should form a Union ;)

I have to put Libby on my back a lot to get things done. The other day she slept for an hour and a half on my back. It was fabulous, I got dishes done and laundry going. Love it!

Do you have her in a Mei Tai on your back?

Oh, yeah, this is why I love short hair ;)

  21. My youngest, Jacob, LOVES my hair. He falls asleep holding it and tying it in fun and horrible knots that I get to brush out the next day. When he has trouble sleeping he pulls it really hard. OWIE!!!
I keep telling him that it's attached to my head and he apologized, but I'm not sure he really get it.

P.S. I love your blog. I just found it, and it is awesome!!!

  22. I need one of those back carriers! I might actually get something done around here, lol

  23. I would love to get a break from being mom for a few hours. It's way overdue. And I'm all for a mom's union. let me know if that gets going :)

  24. Such a cute picture of you and baby Ivy.

I didn't want to be a mom yesterday. My husband was sick with the flu, my MIL is visiting and it was raining outside. The boys just wouldn't "settle" down.

  25. My daughter loves my hair too. She is constantly chewing or pulling on it. That is why I have not even considered the back carry with her. That's okay we are perfecting the hip carry for when I have to get stuff done. And I voted for you without a problem. Good luck!!!

  26. I voted and I also posted in my mom forums and I'll tweet tomorrow. You deserve to win girlie!
