Jewels In My Crown

I'm home and that feels good. I left Hallmark thinking about many different things. Something that stuck with me was that it is a company that operates from the heart, for the heart, and measures everything against being judged not for its great gains...

but for its gifts.

I allow myself the occasional "what if" daydream. In another life, another day, I could totally see myself working there, writing cards and inspiring thoughts and fulfilling my life with meaningful occupation.

In this life, in this day, right
here, for me, in this now...

I am. And I am filled to the brim.

Also, you really should buy more cards, bring back writing BY HAND and send them in the mail (like with a stamp and you put it in your mailbox.) Hallmark did not tell me to tell you that. I thought it all up on my own!

Another big thing I learned is that I totally need to cut my bangs.

  3. Thanks so much for sharing a wonderful perspective! I've had a grumbly heart lately and when I stop thinking about me for a second and look at what I have- really and truly- I wouldn't change being a stay-at-home-Mama to my two amazing babes for even a day!

There is nothing more fulfilling than being a wife and mama :)

  11. I'd buy your cards. They'd be beautiful and inspiring for sure. But it's especially inspiring to see someone who is so happy where she is with the full heart that God has blessed her with. Thanks for sharing that.

  12. I love sending real cards! I do it often. And I love receiving them. Especially when people write something extra in the cards, too.

You both are so adorable in that photo and I'm so bummed I missed you :(

  14. Oh yeah, I could see you doing that. I'm glad you had a good time. Did you eat some good BBQ in my hometown? Maybe I'll go get a card and send it to Hallmark...maybe then they'll invite me next time :) heehee!

  17. I used to be so good at sending letters and cards. Thanks for the reminder that I need to get back to that place again, no matter how busy I am. It really makes a difference.

  18. Your cards would be totally thoughtful, and I would probably buy them. :)

Also, the hand-written note is so lost in this culture of e-mail and tweeting. Thank you for reminding me it's important. Normally, I write many hand-written cards, but lately, I've felt lazy and e-mailed instead.

  19. I can see so much of Gray in Ivy in that photo!!

I think that people just have the knack to write cards ... .which I don't. I am a verbal, eye communicative girl. Every time I try to express myself by words, it all comes out wrong. You: you are great with the words so would be excellent as the CEO of Hallmark card writing. :)

  20. You do have the most meaningful job of all! Glad you and Ivy had a good trip.

  21. I love sending cards, but ONLY Hallmark ones :)

  22. I agree, on the card thing. It's just SO MUCH more personal. I like to make my own from left over scrapbooking supplies, so I'm kinda my own little Hallmark here. ; )

  23. In such a technology filled world we really do forget to "do it from the heart" you're right! There really is nothing better then something hand written.

  24. I use to work at Hallmark (my younger years) and LOVED it....and I enjoy sending people cards...I should get back into it!

  25. This year I started a 101 Goals in 1001 Days list. One of my items is to send atleast one card to a friend each month. I know I love to receive cards and handwritten notes in the mail, so I wanted to make someone smile by sending them some fun in the mail.

  26. Oh what I wouldn't give to visits Hallmark! I'm a huge card writer. I have personalized stationary and I buy and stash cards whenever I come across a fun one. I sent a card at least once a week.

Glad you had a good time!

  27. You are such a great writer, Steph!

I often have moments where I think about all of the things I could be/do "in another life" - healing the sick as a medical doctor in an African village, writing novels in a little cabin by a lake, teaching classes at a university, studying literature at Oxford university...

And then I realize that I am doing something just as great here at home: raising two beautiful girls who are going to grow up and change the world.

P.S. I do want to bring hand-written cards back. Thanks for the reminder. I just might stop in at a Hallmark this weekend.

  28. It's so good to know that they really put love into their cards. I know I love getting them, so I do my best to send them as well! Though "mommy-brain" takes it's toll far too often. Good thing they make "belated" cards!!
