I can't believe people still make phone calls these days. Especially to other people with small children and naps to take and quiet time to be had. Email makes so much less noise. And really- what is so urgent?? Because of course the phone only rings when I finally get that once in maybe never moment that my children are sleeping simultaneously.
Side note: It is spring break and at This Very Moment all FOUR of my blessed kids are still sleeping and although I would love to be sleeping, too, I couldn't go and miss out on this rare occasion. It's quiet here. It's amazing.
And that phone better not ring.
Anyway, I hardly ever make phone calls, but made a whopping two yesterday and BOTH TIMES when I went to dial, Noah was on the other end. This kid is addicted to calling Time and Temp. All the time. So much that the two times I picked up the phone to call I could hear him breathing through the other end and I had to yell, I need the phone!
Flashbacks to my Mom and Dad yelling the same thing to me. Hold please, I'd say.
And oh my gosh the phone just rang. !!!

I have NEVER been successful at getting the kids to nap at the same time. They love to tag team me!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I'm not the only one that was ever addicted to calling Time and Temp? How funny!
I am cracking up Noah calling time and temp cause last night when they were over, he picked up my phone and asked if he could call time and temp. I said I didn't know the number...he was sad. So, he and Carter found some old phones we had and played phone calling for a long time. Gray was even into it, with Dora's play kitchen phone. They had a 3 way conversation going on. Who needs toys? And, that is exactly why I don't call you that often, cause I know how annoying it is when you finally get the kids to sleep and the phone rings! Email IS quieter!
ReplyDeleteExactly!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteHa ha... I'm jealous that you had a LIGHT UP hold button- very cool ;) The phone always messes up naptime for us too. Or the dog decides to terrorize the mailman outside and wakes every sleeping baby within a 5 block radius.
ReplyDeleteNoah and 5 of 8 could hang--5 of 8 is addicted to the weather channel--he feels a strong person responsibility for monitoring the climatological status of the U.S. at any given moment...
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Oh my, I remember calling time and temp ALL OF THE TIME. How funny. Takes me back!
ReplyDeleteLol phone politics. I hope nobody was woken up! Can you set the ring to almost silent during naptime?
ReplyDeleteI hardly ever get the kids to nap at the same time...sigh. And how very cute with the phone and Noah! I never had my own phone, though after I left for college BOTH of my younger sisters got phones in each of their rooms!
ReplyDeleteI have never used the phone down here in AL, since everyone I'd call would be long distance, I just use my cell. When my hubby called me on the home phone the other day is scared the day lights out of me: *What is that noise??!!" I had to laugh when I realized it was the non used phone ringing...
Jealous of your light up hold button, my parents never let me have a phone in my room until high school...
ReplyDeleteThis is why we don't have a home phone!! Haven't had one in about 3.5 years. I can carry my cell in my pocket on vibrate when everyone is sleeping and then no one is woken by the ringing. I also have a sign over my doorbell that says not to ring it - just knock loudly!!
so happy for you that you had all 4 sleeping in!
ReplyDeletei really can't stand the phone. which is quite different from my 8th grade days, too! i prefer e-mail over it SO much...for all your reasons!
I like talking on the phone but quiet times are few and far between especially when the person you are calling has kids.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the phone thing. I really can not stand talking on the phone. I like to text and email but I really do not like the phone. I really never did either. I am cracking up though about time and temp, I didnt think that was still around....
ReplyDeleteThe worst is when the phone rings is someone wanting you to donate money.
ReplyDeleteI hope your caller didn't wake those sleeping babes...
ReplyDeleteThat is *precisely* why I take the phone off the hook when Jayce is napping.
I remember my first phone. It was a Guess brand and the giant triangle lit up neon pink when it rang. I wasn't a brand addict or anything, was I?
ReplyDeleteOf course, now that I mention addict, I was also a T&T addict and am still a weather.com junkie. Maybe he'll grow up to be a meteorologist.
Here's hoping no one calls your house during nap time today. If they do, it better be an emergency.

I hate the phone, too!! I'd much prefer to email or text.
ReplyDeleteI know it's not as personal as hearing someone's voice, but hey, when I've got 3 kids pulling on my pant legs and saying, "Mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy", I can't hear the other person's voice anyway!
oh man, how I hate the phone! always rings right when the kids get to sleep, and lord knows I've given up trying to nap because the phone always wakes me up. I've taken to leaving the ringer off, which irritates my husband to no end, lol
ReplyDeleteWe don't even have a land line for the very reasons you discuss here!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny about Time and Temp! :-)
hilarious. had a big argument with my sister today about phones vs. email. I said that me and all my friends don't do phones we do text and email and she was saying its alienating us and we are all losing touch etc etc. Thing is - i don't have time for long conversations and 2 second calls seem soooo rude. phoning someone just to ask 2 or 3 questions you need answers to much better by email, no
ReplyDeleteanyway....
and yes! what is it with the phone always ringing when the kids are sleeping!!??!!
I turn the ringer off and mute the answering machine during naptime. I do not want to be bothered! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh yeah I feel your pain!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I know I want the kids to sleep in I turn off all the ringers and the answering machine and sometimes I forget and the phone always manages to ring early!! Grr
Love your Noah story, I have a Noah too!! :)
I talk to my mom everyday and must say just told her "I will call you" when the little man was little". Other than that, my BF and I try to talk at least once every two weeks (email just doesn't do it for us). But the call is never during the day, how funny :)
ReplyDeleteGosh! I never call people...only if I HAVE to! Shoot! Email me or find me on gmail/facebook chat! If I don't answer after a hour, call ME! Ha! I do not enjoy talking because usually my hands are full or I'm busy!
ReplyDeleteI thought I was pretty cool having my own phone in my room when I was 12 or 13. Ha! Boy! How little did I know!
I agree about disliking the phone. I would rather text, email...anything other than talk on the phone.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm old-fashioned.. I'd much rather talk face to face or voice to voice. I do use e-mail a lot, but it's not my preference. Sometimes, I just want to really "talk" to someone. But that's just me!
ReplyDeleteTricia
I hear ya! I can't stand making phone calls. I agree that e mail is a lot easier and less noisy. If I really need to talk to someone I'd rather talk to them in person.
ReplyDeleteI hate the phone, too, but I really just wanted to share that when I was in 8th grade, I had a CLEAR phone and pretty much thought it was the coolest thing ever. This amuses me to no end now because all of my 8th graders have BlackBerrys or iPhones and would totally scoff at my clear phone.
ReplyDeleteyou know, what makes the whole phone thing even more strange is that we can be connected by phone 24 freaking hours a day, yet, no one is ever TALKING on the phone...unless they have one of those stupid thing-a-majigs in their ear.
ReplyDeleteyes, my poor parents finally caved and got call waiting because they were sure they were going to miss something urgent, as that thing was a permenant fixture on my head from ages 11 to...well, i still probably talk on the phone more than most people!
I love the phone. I talk to my friends all the time. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't talk to someone I care about. Call me old fashioned. My only complaint is I have all cordless phones and can't ever find them. I want a good old fashioned wall phone with rotary dials - I love that clickety noise when you dial.
ReplyDeleteHilarious! I get phone calls all of the time... darn sales people, lol! And you are so right; people know just when (not) to call.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
You know, now I appreciate EVEN MORE that you let me call you and talk to you so long about Noah's diet back in the fall. :D
ReplyDeleteBTW, Jade and Michael are now back home and Jade is doing much better than she was last week. We're hanging in there!
This cracked me up, because in a house with a lot of kids, we always heard someone yelling "I need the phone!"
ReplyDeleteHa! This post made me smile! I much prefer texting/twittering/e-mailing to phone calls. So much easier...so much quieter...so much faster.
