This morning I greeted Gray's scowl cheerfully and offered him some breakfast. "I DON'T WANT BREAKFAST. LUNCH!"
"It's breakfast time."
"LUNCH!"
"Do you want some cereal or--"

"NO! I WANT LUNCH!"
"Tell me what you want me to make, then."
"FRENCH TOAST STICKS!"
No way was I going to risk the wrath if I told him that was actually breakfast.

I've gotten some great suggestions regarding my struggles with Gray. Although I'd never wish this on any Mom, it is nice to know I'm not alone.

Don't feel bad steph...if it is any consolation me and Aiden have close to the same conversation every morning. It could be his age as well...three year olds are EVIL sometimes :) I want some french toast sticks!
ReplyDeleteAww, even his stinker face is adorable. Where do they get these crazy ideas?!
ReplyDeleteLove his shirt, btw.
:) What a stinker. My kids do that, too. Whatever. They're tired in the morning and need to eat before they can be themselves. I just had a confrontation with Evan that he had to eat the cinnamon rolls that I made SPECIFICALLY for him or else he WOULD Go to school hungry. And I couldn't even yell, because Patrick is upstairs, trying to sleep...
ReplyDeleteIs he three? Because I have conversations like that with my three year-old all the time.
ReplyDeleteAnd if I can get a nice voice with a 'please'? I'll make them pasta for breakfast.
But it sure is funny when they choose 'breakfast' food for 'lunch'.
This conversation could SOOO happen at my house too. He's too cute to argue with though, that's for sure! : )
ReplyDeleteyeah, I'd have to hold my tongue about that too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! I hope you'll come back again soon! :) Happy partying!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure this isn't just normal terrible 2's/3's? Because that conversation sounds a lot like a really independent, strong willed little man to me. Maybe it isn't the jealousy you think it is? Maybe it's just who he is? Really strong willed?
ReplyDeleteNell
I think three year olds are WAY more evil than two year olds. They have this entire "terrible" thing pegged on the wrong age! I agrued with mine the other day because she threw a fit when I couldn't stop the snow from coming down.
ReplyDeleteI love my Graybee! He is one unique little peanut for sure.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely relate. My son is a grouch lately too.
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of ridiculous arguments about the names of foods. Because the little one is just too hungry at the moment to be reasonable. I say, if she wants to refer to the morning meal as "2nd snack" that's fine by me, as long as she eats.
ReplyDeleteIsn't arguing with a three year old just the best way to start your day!? Sounds far too familiar.
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad or guilty, these things happen and it doesn't mean that you're a bad mom. You're doing the best you can and Gray loves you more than you know.
ReplyDeleteMaybe having some alone time with him, a short hour here or there when you can leave Ivy with your husband, might help?
Well my three ear old had scrambled eggs for dinner last night - even though I had made meatloaf and potato BUT this morning he wanted meatloaf for breakfast!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear there is struggles, but that little one is adorable. and I like how you choose your battles (with the french toast). you are a smart mama!
ReplyDeleteHe's so sweet, give him some LUNCH!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a good mom Steph, he'll come through - or shall I say, you'll come through fine!
Enjoy even these little troubles, because they grow soooooo fast.
My son always asks for lunch for breakfast, too. It's usually either Cheerios... or a peanut butter sandwich. I don't mind giving him either for breakfast or lunch! : )
ReplyDeleteHe is turning into quite the cute little man. :)
ReplyDeleteok now your scarying me I think my son is your sons twin! Little stinkers at this age. I swear
ReplyDeleteToo cute.
ReplyDeleteLove the pics :)
Ah yes, your story rings familiar with me! (sigh) You are NOT alone.
ReplyDeleteMy kids get ideas like that all the time. I really like the name of your blog. I wore all my babes, but it's been a while since mine were small enough to wear! Thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteThat so sounds like my 3 1/2 year old son!!! He can be so moody sometimes! But so sweet other times! I never know how it's going to go though until the words come out of his mouth. Why are they like that? I'm wondering if he's got some "issues" with his little sister too. She just turned one and sometimes they get very jealous of eachother. I have 4 kids and the older two never act that way. I guess they are all different!
ReplyDeleteOne morning we slept in kinda late and by the time I fed Lizard and got around to Noodle it was 10:30ish (like i said we really slept in). And she said she wanted nuggies and smiley face potatos. She's been a fickle eater lately so I didn't question it and made her nuggies and smiley face potatos :)
ReplyDeleteWell, he may be going through a rough patch, but he's still cute as a button!
ReplyDeleteAnd, you must not have heard--french toast sticks are now officially lunch food. :)
This is a cute little story...I hope thing get better for both each day! I'll be keeping you guys in my thoughts! :-)
ReplyDeleteHe looks so big in those photos!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm pretty sure that Gray and Hailey would make the perfect preschooler couple. Hailey: "I don't want breakfast/lunch/dinner. I just want SNACKS"! Oh, this is a blog post. Thanks for the inspiration and I'm right there with ya, sister.
ReplyDeleteOkay I just have to say that is the cutest angry face I have ever seen. :)
ReplyDeleteFrench toast sticks for breakf, er, lunch sounds delightful!
ReplyDeleteWow - I can't believe how grown up he is looking!
ReplyDeletePerhaps the little man is just stuck in transition right now: he is naturally striving to be a young man yet is desperately trying to hang onto the little boy stage. No one said growing up was easy and I think for some, transitions are a little more difficult and confusing. Maybe he is purposefully pushing the boundaries each and every day in an effort to try and understand things for himself.
He is truly a cutie pie and it is very obvious that he is surrounded in love. Hang in there girl as you are a great Mommy and are doing the right thing.
