So, you're thinking it. Am I all Ivy all the time now?I certainly am pretty much her entire world. But she's not all of mine.
There is so much I wish I could write about my boys, especially the older two, but as they get older I feel I should be respectful and limiting with what I can share and what I keep just between us. The sweetest of prayers, secrets in their classrooms, humbling and often embarrassing observations about life. And what goes on in the bathroom.
The tales I could tell.
Noah wears the same sweatshirt everysingleday to school. And it's not a sweatshirt he wears in place of coat. It's a sweatshirt that never comes off so it looks like he wears the same exact thing every day in a row. But if he doesn't wear his Tony Hawk Sweatshirt to school he won't be in the Tony Hawk Sweatshirt Club. Or something like that.
I sneak and wash it as much as I can and attack him with baby wipes in between that. And a little piece of me dies inside when he heads off to catch the bus each morning.
Carter lost his tooth in the car yesterday. And I mean he really lost it. We still haven't found it. Which means the Tooth Fairy is off the hook this time! Mean? No way. There's a TOOTH lurking around in my car.
Grayson. Oh dear. I need to start a whole other anonymous blog just about Gray.
So, sometimes, to be on the safe side and also to keep some super special things for my heart only, stories about my boys might be few and far between.
Someday I will be saying that about Ivy.
And then what will I write about?
Will you still be around when I have grandbabies?

That photo is definitely priceless. It would be a fave of mine too and I would also think, every time I looked at it, "Get off the table!"
ReplyDeleteI have issues.
Those boys are adorable.
I have a feeling by the time Ivy is that age you will probably have another little one running around..just guessing :)
ReplyDeleteI remember a kid who wore the same sweatshirt to school every day in grade 1. I was so jealous of her, I wanted to wear the same shirt every day too. My mother didn't believe me, so she talked to the other girl's mother who apparently washed the shirt every night while her daughter slept. And this is what I aspired to.
ReplyDeleteSo I can relate to Noah. And also, I'm with you on the tooth fairy. The tooth has got to be in the proper spot to get the loot.
Of course! But its the special glimpses into your life that are so special.
ReplyDeleteHold on to these moments you knwo one day he'll take off that sweatshirt and it won't ever be the same. :)
I would love to read about your grandbabies! :) And I just love that picture.
ReplyDeleteYour boys are as cute as can be and I understand completely. Also, I sure hope to be sitting here reading about your grandbabies someday!
ReplyDeleteAbby likes to wear sweaters and sweatshirts over her shirt every day too. Thankfully she's got a few of them so we can rotate out, and she's not attached to any particular one of them. :)
ReplyDeleteHannah lost a tooth in the car too, on a road trip in January! To my amazement I did actually find it, under her booster seat. Phew! If not, we were going to leave the Tooth Fairy a note - I had to do that as a kid when I'd accidentally swallowed a tooth.
Your boys sound like wonderful little guys. :)
Your boys are super duper cute :)
ReplyDeleteI love that photo.
ReplyDeleteThat is a blowupable....put in the hallway picture. Gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, go ahead, get it ALL out...I won't tell anyone else ;) Great pic and wonderful post - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture, too.
ReplyDeleteAnd bathroom tales... I can relate.
Sweet picture :)
ReplyDeleteThe tales I could tell, too....oh boy.
But, once my boys are out of diapers, I file those tales away.
I still have one left....lol

ReplyDeleteawwwww! Those guys are sooo very cute! Nice to see them and visualize who they are... Really priceless picture, too. Lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteWell said Steph. This is why I have two blogs. It's kind of silly and redundant, in a way, but it works for me.
ReplyDeleteLook at those boys! You are one blessed mama.
Erin
You will not believe this but last night while I was babysitting I starred at this picture in the frame on your table and got lost in it. I could NOT believe when I saw this on your blog. Our minds think alike for sure. I love how you are saving stories and keeping them in your heart.
ReplyDeletewhat cuties :-) i was wondering when the boys would be back again!
ReplyDeleteI love that pic. Those boys of yours sure are gorgeous. :)
ReplyDeleteI can completely relate. I keep many things special and secret when it comes to my older two.
ReplyDeleteYour boys are so lovely. I love that they have their own cute quirks, like the sweatshirt.
And yes, I'll be around for your blog posts about your grandbabies ;)
What an awesome family gift our blogs will be one day.
I hear ya on the older kid privacy issues.
ReplyDeleteLook how tall they're getting!
It's such a difficult call for a mommy to know when to stop sharing. I'm glad to know you feel that need so strongly. I'm sure your boys will really appreciate it when they're 13.
ReplyDelete-Abby
I know what you mean with maybe starting an anon journal for Gray... Liam is probably very similar. I've actually like Liam since Tuesday... so this is a good week.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great picture! They'll never be able to say you weren't a fun mom! =)
ReplyDeletethat photo is just perfect, the boys look adorable + the composition is just lovely. i think the little glimpses like this are all that is needed to let us know more about the boys.
ReplyDeleteYour boys are so handsome. I love the photograph.
ReplyDeleteI must tell you I do love the Grayson stories. My favorite was the honey bunches of oats. Honestly I still giggle when I see them in the cereal isle.
There are some things that should stay sacred, no doubt about it. I write about where we go and the books we read, but I don't include every potty victory or defeat, or bath times, or even what his words are or how many he has. There are some things that are special to me, and I'm sure every mom is like that.
ReplyDeleteNo because we'll all be on that commune somewhere warm. :)
ReplyDeleteRyley lost a tooth one night when we were decorating a Christmas tree. Somehow, he dropped it in a cavernous box of decorations and ornaments. We never found it.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo...
What a gorgeous picture!! And I think that it is so funny about the sweatshirt. I know that day will come for me and I can hardly wait as it is so endearing.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is tough deciding what to share and what not to share with the world. It is so natural to want to talk about antics, funny moments and frustrating moments, but there is that little part of you that feels protective towards your loved ones. And, with the exposure that you have Steph, I completely understand why you would want to hold those stories so close to you.
I love this photo and this post. Sometimes I worry about what it'll be like to have a baby and a toddler, but you've shown me that it can be done--wonderfully so.
ReplyDeleteYour boys are so cute and I can relate to wanting to keep some things just for yourself-there have been some things (esp with potty training..oh my!) that I'd love to share, but, I have to remember someday my sons might read this, and I'd hate for them to feel embarrassed too much...:) Hey, and hopefully we will all have grandbabies at the same time, so instead of being mommy bloggers, we'll be grandmommy bloggers...:)
ReplyDeleteI've stopped writing about SlowMo so much for that very same reason.Even though they're little, they deserve their privacy. Good job Mama!
ReplyDeleteLove the pic of your boys! I completely understand what you are saying about keeping things about them private. That is how I feel about my 10yo step-daughter. I could go on and on about her, but she would be soooo embarrassed if I told those things. So, I respect her privacy. I hope my readers don't think I don't love her as much, though, because that would be the furthest thing from the truth.
ReplyDeleteYeah, there's a lot that my children do that I don't talk about (believe it or not!!!! lol)
ReplyDeleteYour boys are so cute! Your photo reminds me of my three boys. I love seeing them lined up like that. I would have loved to have another but my dear little one put any thought of that far far away. He's quite the handful unlike my middle child who made thinking of having a third child thoughtless.
ReplyDeleteYou have such adorable children! And that really is a great photo of your little men.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for BlogHer, and yes, I am staying with Cassie. Can't wait!
It is different blogging about babies and older children. Glad to hear they are still keeping you busy with their wiley ways!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this personal piece.
ReplyDeleteLove that photo!
ReplyDeleteMy 8 yo daughter is starting to let me know what I cannot talk about on the blog. She got pretty upset a few weeks ago about something I shared. So, I have to be more careful now.
I love hearing whatever you talk about!
I taught a little boy who had a Tony Hawk obsession and he wore the same sweatshirt to school all the time too. Different shirt underneath but same sweatshirt on top. Don't feel bad - I don't think his mom snuck washings while he was sleeping. It got kind of stinky!
ReplyDeleteugh - i'm running into that as well. my big girls are hilarious, but i feel bad sharing some of the things going on with them....
ReplyDeleteand my daughter would HAPPILY wear the same tshirt with a horsie on it every single day.
That's so funny, because I was just talking with a friend the other day and we were thinking, "Do the boys get any blog time, or is it just all about Ivy?" but that makes sense. Regardless, I am glad to see the boys get a little time, too!
ReplyDeleteYep! It's hard with the older ones. I feel like I'm neglecting them but I know they don't appreciate a lot of stories about them.
ReplyDeleteThree handsome boys! I adore that photo.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand your quietude as the boys get older. Some things are just too "dear" to share and are better held close to the heart.
Thankfully I read your blog tonight because I almost forgot that the Tooth Fairy is ON duty! Whew, I too have three boys 7,5,nearly 2 and a 5mo little girl. Keep wearing that baby, Girl!
