If It Makes You Happy

Recently my friend Michelle at Scribbit introduced me to the lovely handmade work of jaC Jewelry on etsy. Each piece is a one of a kind unique and lovely creation.

I was all set to have this bracelet made especially for me to wear to BlissDom but then a blizzard came and our mail didn't run for a couple days! And it didn't come in time for my trip.

But it was waiting here for me when I got home.

And it made me all sorts of happy.

The color, a bright spot on dreary days. The red coral, like flower petals on my wrist.

I wear things like this with tee shirts or a fancy dress. You don't need a special occasion for pretty.

Win! jaC Jewelry is giving away more cheer right here! A pair of Cranberries in the Snow Earrings! These delicate earrings (pictured) are made with dark red and white freshwater rice pearls attached to sterling silver chain and ear wires.

To enter, please leave a comment telling me: Why do you buy handmade jewelry? (If you don't buy it, then would you buy it and why or why not?)

I'll choose one winner at random from the comments here sometime after 11:59 pm Monday February 23. Just one entry per person, please.

Contest has ended. Congrats to Sharon of The Bird's Nest!

Check out the jaC Jewelry blog for more fabulous finds and giveaways!

  1. Lovely!

I adore handmade jewelry. While I haven't bought any from any sellers on Etsy, I often buy handmade jewelry when I go out shopping and see people selling it. It's nice to have something that is unique, that you won't see 100 other people wearing!

  2. Those are beautiful! I love handmade jewelry because of the time and creativity they represent. Every time I looked at handmade goods I know that it was made with care by a person who enjoyed what they were doing.

  3. Those are gorgeous! I buy handmade jewelry because I prefer to support handmade shops. Also, I like that it's more unique, and I'm less likely to see someone else wearing the exact same jewelry.

  4. A lady at my church makes handmade jewelry. Many times she's been kind enough to donate many pieces as the prizes at bridal/baby showers. It's so fun to see her work displayed on Sunday mornings for years to come.

I love buying handmade and knowing tons of other people aren't wearing the SAME piece.

These beautiful earrings remind me of our birthstone Steph! I'd love to win them :)

  6. I love to buy homemade jewelry and other items because my favorite decor or fashion items are things that have meaning or a story. With handmade, I get to enjoy a piece of an individual's creativity. And share it with others. :)

  7. Love the bracelet, love the color.

I usually buy handmade because of the person selling. I appreciate the time and personal touch that went into each piece.

  8. I like to buy handmade jewelry because it's unique. I also think it's wonderful to buy from a smaller company rather than a large one, helps the little people out! I love the bracelet....and the earrings are divine!

  9. Love em!

And I agree, no reason needed for pretty!

  10. I love handmade jewelry and I've bought a lot from etsy. I'm not sure if its because of the quality or look. Most of the time I want something, but don't know exactly WHAT and the stores usually don't carry it! The bracelet is ADORABLE! I love it! It would match my etsy find from Christmas!!! :)

  11. I love handmade jewelry but just can not justify spending the money on myself.

  12. I don't buy myself much jewlery. And if I do, it is usually cheap.

I love looking at handmade jewelry and dream about wearing it. I just can't justify spending the money on myself. I guess that's the mom in me!

But, that bracelet you picked is beautiful!

And I've been wanting to spice up my jewlery collection.

  13. I do buy handmade jewelry from time to time, I think mostly because I love to have something unique. I love the idea of wearing pieces no one else has. I sometimes feel my wardrobe gets very bland, and dressing it up with special jewelry sort of helps it along.

"Cranberries in the Snow." What a creative name...

  14. I like handmade jewelry because it is unique. I confess I rarely buy jewelry at all, because of my budget. Those earrings are lovely. Thanks for the contest!

  15. I love handmade jewlery because each piece is unique, special and a reflection of how we are all unique and special (flaws and all) in our own little ways. I haven't worn earings in a long time (since the boys were born) but I am in LOVE with those. And that braclet is radient.

  16. I buy handmade because it's just plain better. Better than sweatshops, better than computer-generated, better than the StuffMarts. It's the labour of love of a real, live person who needs to eat, too.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I enjoy handmade jewelry because you can get just exactly what you want. I love that the people that make them are so talented and have such vision. I could never put the right pieces together to make something look as pretty as they do. One of my best friends has been making jewelry for a few years now and I love when my birthday comes around. I am always guaranteed something beautiful.

  18. So beautiful!

To date, I haven't spent money on jewelry for myself because, well, we're on a budget with a baby!

I really love handmade jewelry because of the personal touch that goes into each piece. You can see so much creativity, meaning and uniqueness that you can't always find in commercial settings.

I also really value supporting jewelry makers outside of big businesses because I appreciate their work and really want them to be recognized for it!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Honestly, I really never buy an jewelry. I don't wear it. However, my best friend would love those earings so I would love ti win them for her. If I bought jewelry I think I would buy home made because of how personal and unique it is.

  25. I've never bought handmade jewelry...I just don't buy jewelry period. :) We don't have a lot of money, so when I get some extra, I usually buy clothes instead. But I would buy handmade jewelry if I found some that was affordable. :)

  26. Steph, thank you so much for a wonderful post! And a big thank you to everyone who is taking the time to answer my question about why you buy or don't buy handmade jewelry! I really appreciate it!

  27. That bracelet is beautiful. The color is so bright and cheerful for the wintry gray. I love the name of the earrings. Perfect description! I can't say I have bought too many handmade jewelry pieces, but when I do my favorite part is knowing that it is something unique. Handmade jewelry is like artwork and it is fun to be able to wear somebodys artistic impressions. Thanks for a great giveaway.

  28. I love handmade jewelry because often I can choose the colors and beads that go into the piece making it just perfect for me. It's so fun to get to "visit" the blogs from Bloggy Carnival now that I have time and can read and post.

  29. Well I haven't been able to buy much of anything with my hubby in medical school but it's important to buy from people who own their own business for several reasons. Alot of the time I think the product is better because they dont have the thousands of customers lining up for them so they have to make each customer perfeclty happy also owning my own business I know how important it is not only financial but emotionally to have people support my talents.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think it is important to support WAHM as much as possible.

  31. The best thing about homemade jewelry is that they're made with love instead of pumped out of a factory. Too often the homemade jewelry shown in local boutiques is out of my price range. Thank God for Etsy! :)

  32. I love handmade jewelry because I like supporting artisans and small businesses. Beautiful earrings! :)

  33. My father was a self-taught goldsmith with a studio in our home. My favorite toys as a child were the little wax molds he made to display his past work, back in the days before websites and digital photography. He passed away 16 years ago but I still have many of his pieces. So you see, I've been on board with handmade jewelry since I was in diapers.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love handmade jewelry :) When I was young I used to make earrings out of seashells... fond memories!

I like to buy handmade jewelry because most times it's the only way to get really unique pieces. Plus you know how much effort, love, and thought is put into each piece.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why do I buy handmade jewelry? Because I absolutely think it's essential we support small businesses. I would much rather buy handmade than mass-produced.

  38. Although I make jewelry (when I'm not taking care of my new granddaughter), I also love to buy other artist's jewelry, such as rings - that's a skill I have yet to master. I love being able to communicate directly with the artist. That's the best part of buying handmade. Some of the nicest people I've come across are artists on Etsy.

  129. since beginning my own sewing business and selling on etsy I've become much more aware of supporting small business/independent business ventures. I love the care and quality of handmade jewelry and love that you build a personal connection with the vendor and they stick by their product.
    Thanks,

  130. Aren't I lucky to find your site today! You can thank Heather of the EO.
If I could afford to buy more jewelry, it would definitely be unique, handmade, beauties. It's nice to have something no one else does. Since I seldom splurge on myself, this would be a fun one to win!

  131. I love wearing handmade jewelry because it always has a story behind it... you never simply say "I bought this at Macy's". Also, I have boxes and boxes of beads to make my own jewelry, but never do because I love counting over those beads like Scrooge with his gold coins! I admire that someone can make something so gorgeous...

  132. Handmade jewelry is great because you are supporting an individual instead of a big business. Plus it is usually higher quality and has more personality!

  134. I love handmade jewelry. It is unique, and also I think it is sorta cool that only YOU have that piece. Also, how much thought and effort a person puts into it is special.

  135. I buy handmade because I know there are very few, if any, like the items I buy...especially if they are 100% handmade.
    Thanks!

  136. I hardly ever treat myself to jewelry, although I love it. I definitely prefer handmade jewelry, and love to create some beaded things with my 11yo daughter now and then. The piece is beautiful!
