If It Makes You Happy

Recently my friend Michelle at Scribbit introduced me to the lovely handmade work of jaC Jewelry on etsy. Each piece is a one of a kind unique and lovely creation.

I was all set to have this bracelet made especially for me to wear to BlissDom but then a blizzard came and our mail didn't run for a couple days! And it didn't come in time for my trip.


But it was waiting here for me when I got home.

And it made me all sorts of happy.

The color, a bright spot on dreary days. The red coral, like flower petals on my wrist.

I wear things like this with tee shirts or a fancy dress. You don't need a special occasion for pretty.

    I adore handmade jewelry. While I haven't bought any from any sellers on Etsy, I often buy handmade jewelry when I go out shopping and see people selling it. It's nice to have something that is unique, that you won't see 100 other people wearing!

  4. A lady at my church makes handmade jewelry. Many times she's been kind enough to donate many pieces as the prizes at bridal/baby showers. It's so fun to see her work displayed on Sunday mornings for years to come.

    I love buying handmade and knowing tons of other people aren't wearing the SAME piece.

  6. I love to buy homemade jewelry and other items because my favorite decor or fashion items are things that have meaning or a story. With handmade, I get to enjoy a piece of an individual's creativity. And share it with others. :)

  10. I love handmade jewelry and I've bought a lot from etsy. I'm not sure if its because of the quality or look. Most of the time I want something, but don't know exactly WHAT and the stores usually don't carry it! The bracelet is ADORABLE! I love it! It would match my etsy find from Christmas!!! :)

    I love looking at handmade jewelry and dream about wearing it. I just can't justify spending the money on myself. I guess that's the mom in me!

  13. I do buy handmade jewelry from time to time, I think mostly because I love to have something unique. I love the idea of wearing pieces no one else has. I sometimes feel my wardrobe gets very bland, and dressing it up with special jewelry sort of helps it along.

  17. I enjoy handmade jewelry because you can get just exactly what you want. I love that the people that make them are so talented and have such vision. I could never put the right pieces together to make something look as pretty as they do. One of my best friends has been making jewelry for a few years now and I love when my birthday comes around. I am always guaranteed something beautiful.

    To date, I haven't spent money on jewelry for myself because, well, we're on a budget with a baby!

    I really love handmade jewelry because of the personal touch that goes into each piece. You can see so much creativity, meaning and uniqueness that you can't always find in commercial settings.

    I also really value supporting jewelry makers outside of big businesses because I appreciate their work and really want them to be recognized for it!

  22. I haven't bought jewelry in forever. I miss it. I miss the "pretty" of it. I have some favorites I go back to a lot though, I need to start trying to pick up some newer pieces. The red of your bracelet is AWESOME!

  25. I've never bought handmade jewelry...I just don't buy jewelry period. :) We don't have a lot of money, so when I get some extra, I usually buy clothes instead. But I would buy handmade jewelry if I found some that was affordable. :)

  27. That bracelet is beautiful. The color is so bright and cheerful for the wintry gray. I love the name of the earrings. Perfect description! I can't say I have bought too many handmade jewelry pieces, but when I do my favorite part is knowing that it is something unique. Handmade jewelry is like artwork and it is fun to be able to wear somebodys artistic impressions. Thanks for a great giveaway.

  29. Well I haven't been able to buy much of anything with my hubby in medical school but it's important to buy from people who own their own business for several reasons. Alot of the time I think the product is better because they dont have the thousands of customers lining up for them so they have to make each customer perfeclty happy also owning my own business I know how important it is not only financial but emotionally to have people support my talents.

  31. The best thing about homemade jewelry is that they're made with love instead of pumped out of a factory. Too often the homemade jewelry shown in local boutiques is out of my price range. Thank God for Etsy! :)

  33. My father was a self-taught goldsmith with a studio in our home. My favorite toys as a child were the little wax molds he made to display his past work, back in the days before websites and digital photography. He passed away 16 years ago but I still have many of his pieces. So you see, I've been on board with handmade jewelry since I was in diapers.

  38. Although I make jewelry (when I'm not taking care of my new granddaughter), I also love to buy other artist's jewelry, such as rings - that's a skill I have yet to master. I love being able to communicate directly with the artist. That's the best part of buying handmade. Some of the nicest people I've come across are artists on Etsy.

I like getting the compliments on what I wear and I also like it that what I have on is usually made by someone who is working hard to make a business go (instead of something that is mass produced in a warehouse somewhere)

  44. I love handmade jewlery, too! My friend Jessica (loveheylola.com) actually made all of the necklaces and earrings for my bridesmaid to wear at my wedding. Gosh, they were so beautiful. I never would have found necklaces and earrings that were so beautiful, unique and versatile in a store. And she made them with love. that was the best part. :)

    I work with clay & beads & also make handmade items for our local flea market so I know how important it is to attract buyers. These earrings are so delicate and feminine looking I love them Thanks for the chance!!

  125. Wow, those are gorgeous! I haven't bought much handmade jewelry yet... although one of my favorite necklaces is a large shell my mom brought back from the Bahamas that already had the perfect hole in it to make into a necklace!

  131. I love wearing handmade jewelry because it always has a story behind it... you never simply say "I bought this at Macy's". Also, I have boxes and boxes of beads to make my own jewelry, but never do because I love counting over those beads like Scrooge with his gold coins! I admire that someone can make something so gorgeous...

  136. I hardly ever treat myself to jewelry, although I love it. I definitely prefer handmade jewelry, and love to create some beaded things with my 11yo daughter now and then. The piece is beautiful!
