Seriously, I could see just white fuzz on the right side. The girl looked at me and said, "Uh, not even close."
It was then that I realized that maybe the dizziness and weird vertigo I've been feeling lately was because of my contacts and not because of some crazy illness in my head. The room had been occasionally spinning ever since I replaced the contact that Ivy knocked out.
I had put the wrong one in the wrong eye.
So now I'm wondering what else I'm blaming on really dumb things. Probably a lot more than you'd think.
Oh, and they still renewed my license. Guess that right eye doesn't really matter.
(I'm still wearing my glasses until my new contacts come.)
Lasik. The best money I ever spent.
ReplyDeleteThis is very funny... and also kinda not OK that you'd still get a license. Something similar happened to Jane last week with the not-seeing-too-well-but-still-getting-issued-a -license thing.
ReplyDeleteWhen I went for my 10-year license renewal in August, I was certain that I'd have a new photo taken. I mean, 10 years is 10 years! But no... the clerk said no new photo was necessary. I told her that means I'll have a photo form 1998 for 20 years!! Yep. That seems OK!
Gads... it's no wonder criminals find things so easy!!!!
Steph... the Bristol comment is from me! I didn't switch out of my husband's identity!
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you were dizzy! When I was 16 and went to get my license for the first time, I flat out failed it. Until then, I'd never had any vision problems, so my mom promised the woman that she'd get me into the optometrist ASAP. They still gave me my license, so I guess they're very trusting at the BMV when it comes to vision!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear that your vertigo should be easily fixed.
ReplyDeleteHopefully that's an easy fix! I haven't had my eyes checked in about 10 yrs... I know I'd fail the eye test right now, lol.
ReplyDeleteOh that's funny and scary at the same time. I mean, vision is the least important thing you need when you're driving, right?
ReplyDeleteThis is why I always use my headlights even on sunny days. I also drive around assuming somebody isn't going to stop when they are suppose to. Crazy Scary!
ReplyDeleteAt least they didn't take away you license! That would of totally stunk.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! at least you find out why you had that problem!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I have done this so many times! I need Lasik.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found out...I was worrying about you.
ReplyDeleteI just got my first pair of contacts and I could so see myself doing that. :) I have lost two already (n two weeks time). It is ridiculous. At least now you can start feeling better.
ReplyDeleteOh my... I understand though, it's hard having terrible eyesight.
ReplyDeleteIndiana is kinda scary- my MIL has dementia and they won't revoke her license!
When we moved her and I went to switch my license I thought I had all the correct documentation with me...driver's license from my previous state, social security card, proof of residence and my birth certificate. When it was my turn at the window the man made the comment that my last name on my then current drivers license and my birth certificate were different. Well, I've been married for 14 years. It made total sense to me. The new state requires that women bring in a marriage certificate if they have changed their maiden name. But this is the kicker...he was willing to give me a drivers license with my maiden name even though everything else I could produce other than my birth certificate had my married name. I tried to explain to him that that did not make any sense because my maiden name is not my legal name. Crazy. I just waited until I could come back with my marriage certificate.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! That is crazy!!! No wonder you were feeling so horrible. Jasper just broke an arm off my glasses so whenever I wear them I get sick to my stomach...
ReplyDeleteWell, that is a relief. At least it is something that is an easy fix.
ReplyDeleteSounds like something I would do. Doh!
ReplyDeleteThose stupid eye test boxes at the DMV are always picking on me! The letters change when I move my head. I was really paranoid that I'd fail when I went to renew my license a month and a half after my daughter was born, because my vision was horrible and I needed new contacts, but I miraculously passed. I'd much rather just have an eye chart at the end of the room to look at.
ReplyDeletenow that's why I wear glasses... I'd probably always get my contacts mixed up :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you figured out what was up. A wee bit scary that they renewed it anyway. :)
ReplyDeletelasik is totally some of the best money i've ever spent, too!
ReplyDeletei had to renew my license a couple of weeks ago and had to do the whole "chin down, smile, but no teeth" thing, too. yet, their system kept calling my picture "non-compliant". 3 different people tried for ONE HOUR to get the picture. i had to take off my scarf, then my coat, then straighten up my ponytail a little, then tuck my bangs back, then chin down again, then....
it never worked! luckily my girls were angels and i tried to be very patient, as it wasn't really their fault. eventually they just had to override the machine and accept a picture.
okay, that was REALLY long...you just totally brought me back there w/ your title, though! =)
glad you figured out the vision thing! =)
oh my goodness. I don't know if it's a wonderful thing or a terrible thing when you realize something so small caused so much trouble. Such a "is only I'd" moment. At least you figured it out. Goodbye dizzy.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course it was SO much more likely that you were pregnant, right:)
Oh geez. So this is what getting old(er) is all about, huh?
ReplyDeleteIt's not the going blind that scares me, it's the craziness I'm worried about.
I'm already known as "that cat lady up the street" so you can imagine why I'm neurotic about the crazy factor. The crazy cat lady.
They still renewed it!!! Gotta love the DMV...
ReplyDeleteThe DMV is so amazing, isn't it? ;)
ReplyDeleteI have switched contact lenses more times than I can count!
DOH! I just had an eye appt and to my amazement, with "corrective help", I can see 20/15. Without it, I just might be blind. I am finally taking the plunge and returning to contacts!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you'll be able to see again.
Also, I totally forgot! I left you a bloggy award over at my place!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I've done the same thing. Luckily my eyes are not that different. But it does throw things off alot.
ReplyDeletei have totally done this!! i wear a toric lense in my left eye so you'd think i'd notice that it didn't feel right. and i did notice... it just took a couple weeks!
ReplyDeletexo,
erika
ha! A few weeks ago I put in two pair of contacts without even knowing. Put one pair in and then totally forgot and tried slapping in another pair. Of course, it didn't feel right at all, but I couldn't figure out what was wrong until I tried to take one out and the other one came out with it. DUH....
ReplyDeleteI probably shouldn't be allowed to wear contacts. Too much room for error.
Isn't it crazy that you can't show your teeth? What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteI've done that before too...I seriously need Lasik. They don't make the prescription lenses much higher than what I need...ugh!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't having bad eyesight stink sometimes? I hope to have perfect eyes in heaven someday! : )
ReplyDeleteWow! While I love being on the internet highway with you, I don't know that I'd want to encounter you on the Chicago freeway system! ;o)
ReplyDeleteGlad you figured it out!
Blessings!
I am so with you. I'm too chicken to have the surgery done.
ReplyDeleteIs that really the recommended advice for drivers license photos? I smile when I get mine done, but I almost always show my teeth...
ReplyDeleteAnd what about the chin thing...is that too keep shadows at bay?
This made me think of how I wore Evelyn in my driver's license picture - she's in the hip carry position of my ERGObaby carrier! I kind of hoped she would show up in the pic, but she didn't! Were you wearing Ivy when you had your pic taken?
ReplyDeleteTotally have put the wrong contact in the wrong eye too - but my prescription is so different for each eye that I could tell right away!
Cheer up! I'll pray for you!
Love,
Amber
Here's hoping that the contact comes in soon!
