Wish And Wear

Join in the International Babywearing Week celebrations by sharing your babywearing photos- link up in the Mr. Linky here... and you could win!

In December of 2003 our oldest son Noah (2 yrs old at the time) was diagnosed with a rare seizure disorder called Doose Syndrome. It was probably the hardest time we've ever faced in our lives, but through much prayer and research and faith we were able to see Noah healed. He's been seizure-free over 4 years now.

During this time, Noah was granted a wish by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. His wish was "to go to the zoo and pet a whale".

So, they sent us on a fabulous family vacation to San Diego, California where Noa
h could see his favorite animal - the polar bear - at the San Diego Zoo and pet a whale (or rather it would be a dolphin but anyway!) at Sea World.

Wish trips take about a year to be granted, so we had a lot of time to be excited about the vacation. We also found out we were pregnant with Gray!
I'm wearing him in the mei tai in the photo above. I wore him pretty much the entire trip- everywhere we went.

Make-A-Wish is as amazing as you'd dream it to be. Their mission is to grant wishes to children with life-threatening diseases.

Although Noah wasn't terminally ill, his syndrome w
as definitely life-threatening as is any seizure disorder.

For two and a half years Noah was on the Ketogenic Diet to treat his seizures. We were provided all accommodations to assist us with preparing his meals at
our hotel as well as while we were out and about. We just had to take this picture of Noah by some birds at Sea World that were also on a special diet like him!

We had backstage access at Sea World, and our own private dolphin show- complete with high jumping and splashing tricks! (I'm wearing Gray in the ring sling here.)

This holiday season,
Macy’s is collecting letters from Santa in a special Santa letterbox at all Macy’s stores. For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

I believe in the magic and miracles of Christmas.

And I definitely have seen the power of a wish.

What a great thing Macy's is doing. We'll defintely have to write our letters and take them there.

My friend worked for Children's Hospital here in Dallas and was often a liason with Make a wish, so I loved hearing all the sweet stories and neat requests the kids have!

So glad to hear is doing so much better. Congrats on the 4 years seizure free!

What a great post! I am so glad your son is seizure free; it is a very scary place to be as a parent when your child has seizure (my niece had them - she is now freed from them) Make-A-Wish is a great organization we donated to a young boy in Arizona who wanted to be a fireman when he grew up (which was unlikely due to his disease) Make a Wish and the locate fire department created his very own fireman bedroom including the front end of a real fire truck. We donated all of our Heros bedding and room decor! It was such a special feeling to help. I will make sure my large extended family participates in the Macy letters to Santa and thanks for bringing to our attention. btw you twitter image of you daughter is so adorable :)

How wonderful! I love the Make a Wish foundation. I love that they don't just grant the wishes, they go above and beyond to make it truly matter. One of my closest friends in high school had a rare kidney disease, and they granted her wish to go to NYC and see the Rosie O'Donnell Show, which was so special for her.

What wonderful memories your family has made, even though those must have been dark times for you! My son had several seizures when he was two. He was on meds for two years, and has been seizure free for almost two more years. I know from experience how terrifying it is to watch you child have a seizure. Congrats on making it to four years, and I hope he remains seizure free forever! :)

Amazing story and so happy to hear that he's been seizure free for 4 years! I saw a commercial for the Macy's Santa Letter charity. I already told The Husband we were going to do that instead of just "mailing" them.

Thank you for informing us on so much, Steph!
I've read your story so many times before, but I still get goosebumps each time. God Bless your family. Really.

On a side note, my dh works a 2nd job driving a limo, and he's had a few jobs where it's been to drive as part of a Make-a-Wish gift. He has been so impressed by the foundation and the job they do to grant these wishes.
I have to add that every time I read a Make-A-Wish story, I find it to be a big reminder to pray for all children, but especially these.
