*Updated to add news footage! When I posted my video response to the whole Motrin vs. Babywearers controversy the other morning, I was mainly excited to turn it into something positive regarding how to wear your baby properly.
I had no idea that the Today Show would be tuning in, as well as pretty much everyone else. The Chicago Tribune called me yesterday- you can see what we talked about in today's paper here.
NBC Chicago News aired a piece including a clip from my video here.
This is definitely a great example of how important a Mom's voice is. But with this great power comes great responsibility. I hope we continue to use it only for good!
Stay tuned- later today I'll reveal the winner of the Nest & Hatchling slings!
Pictured- the last time I wore Gray.
It is so nice to see that we really DO have a voice!!!! It does make a difference to stand up and speak out!! congrats on the removal of the Motrin Ad!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of you
Alyson
Woo hoo! Look at you! I'm also so proud of you and this community and a little in awe of the power we hold . . .
ReplyDeleteSweet picture!
ReplyDeleteA friend sent me the link for The Consumerist with their bit on this. Several commented, and of course people were saying that some moms have nothing better to do than to look for something to complain about, followed by that we MUST care about the fashion/trend issue of it since we took the time to rant about it.
I found that to be very frustrating. :(
This is great and you know what don;t shower next time either -- moms just do not always get to shower before making a statement! That is a fact and that is part of what makes your voice heard -- it is real!!!!
ReplyDeleteBravo and thanks!
I think it's great that you were quoted. You really are a strong voice in this mommy community.
ReplyDeletehow cool. u looked fine w/out make up tho! :-) i remember when u posted that pic.. so sweet. u were pregnant then right?
ReplyDeleteShower or not, we rocked it! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteI just wish that people would stop downing us, though, as if we don't care for anything else. No one wants to look deeper and see we care about other things, other causes, calling is 'borgs' and 'whiney'.
I'm so happy to see Babywearing International's response, though. Keep fighting the urge to post another post about this, trying to let it go.
agreed! use your power for good-how appropriate & timely. congrats!
ReplyDeleteSteph - you looked great and made such a positive video response. so, wait are you going to be on Today? I went to the website and missed it if they spoke about this craziness...
ReplyDeleteHow very cool! I couldn't get the Today Show link to work either, and I even looked around for it. I want to see!
ReplyDeleteThat last line about finding a more important issue at which you could direct your collective energy was a little off base. This was one day of backlash, it's not like you all started a foundation or something. And anyone who actually reads your blog would see that you have several truly important issues (Noah's story!) that are at the forefront of all you write about. Anyway. Is your contest over today? I wanted to enter. Oh well. I'm just behind on everything lately. ;)
Awesome! And you are the perfect person for the press to come to...after all, look at the name of your blog!
ReplyDeleteNell
Very neat that you got such press out of it. And I agree. I hope that mommy bloggers as a whole continue to use our voice for good.
ReplyDeleteI just love all your pictures. Little guy looks so cozy back there. :)
I just realized it sounded like I was saying this wasn't important. That's not what I was trying to say. I'm too tired to say stuff that makes sense right now.
ReplyDeletewere you on the Today Show?? I never get to see that show :( but, I did see the video when you posted it, it was really great!
ReplyDeleteErin-
ReplyDeleteAww! You should still link up! And I don't know if the Today show ran anything yet, but I know they had seen my video and were considering a story! I imagine they might want someone that was more "anti-Motrin" as I was more talking about babywearing and not much else!
Steph
Pretty powerful how a few voices turn into a chorus..and make some much needed noise! That is an awesome story. Well done!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! That is so awesome!!! And I thought you looked very lovely, I wouldn't have known you had just gotten out of bed if you had not said.
ReplyDeleteMan, I am so proud to be a part of this mom community-we rock!
Yay Steph!!!
Your title of this post cracked me up. Like I said, you look great in that video and I'm jealous! OH and now you're even more famous! : )
ReplyDeleteHave a great day Steph!
Wow! Good job! And what a horrible ad. I've watched it a few times and each time it is more bothersome. Alliosn said, you don't like that mom, do you? They are so intuitive.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! You are such an amazing lady!
ReplyDelete~Z
oh, that's hilarious that OF COURSE you hadn't showered and so many tuned in. you looked beautiful anyway. =)
ReplyDeleteglad you were heard.
So they showed it on the Today Show? That rocks! I was proud of you for having not showered. I don't think I could've done though, though you looked great even w/o a shower. :)
ReplyDeleteI need to read your article. I got interviewed by my local paper today myself.
Yes, this has definitely we do have a voice and I'd love to see us continue to use it for bigger and better things. :)
Your video was great--I directed my hubby to You Tube to check out the Motrin commercial video--and he watched your reply. He liked it also....he was talking about some things you said--saying he had watched someone's response to the add (before I knew he meant you), and I asked--was her baby named Ivy? He said yes, it was Ivy's mom:-) P.S. You totally pulled off the non-showered look!
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of you- way to use your power and putting your voice out there. I am all about positivity and I know you are too- that makes me even MORE proud :)
ReplyDeleteyou're a STAR steph!
ReplyDeleteI hope babywearing gets some more press (good press)...thanks for helping spread the word!
