Adventures In Babysitting

I was so certain I'd have an event-filled post sure to dazzle you this morning, but I'm coming up with nothing.

You see, last night Arianne & I watched Beth's precious children while she and her husband went out for the evening. If you love Beth like we do, then being around her kids is almost too much. They are just too sweet and perfect.

Thus, no funny foibles to write about today, other than an explosive diaper or two by one of my own, she shall not be named as to prevent future embarrassment (I'll just say it wasn't Arianne) (and when I say it was explosive, that's an understatement) ...Beth's children are now possibly scarred for life.

One thing I must say I was looking forward to with a daughter was the whole not getting peed on when changing diapers. Um, maybe Ivy didn't get the memo?

She's three weeks today, folks. Can you believe it? And yes, I know I've written that with each week-mark, but still. We seem to be lingering in the "get to know you" stage and the love at first sight thing has not worn off. Just when I think it's not possible, I fall in love with her more and more everyday. Even when she pees on me.

  1. You are too funny. I remember MANY times Emma doing explosive pees and poops on Daddy. But, they were not nearly as bad as Seths. Those boy pees all over you...no fun!
I am daily falling in love too, she's 4 weeks tomorrow..i can't believe it!

  2. My husband freaked when my daughter peed on him. He was so confused on how that happened. We were still in the hospital (it happened when she was only a few days old) and the nurse tried to explain that it could happen through my luaghter. Ooooh and the first 'poo' diaper he was disguasted! I was ready for it and knew all about it but he just looked at me and wanted to know where are girl was cause only boys are supposed to be this messy.

I still laugh at those memories.

Emma and I had a long get to know you phase and I think it's a beautiful phase. With Emma about to turn 1 I am trying to find where the time went so enjoy the moments!

I hope my reactions to explosive poops are just as sedate. Haha!

  4. I love your site, Im here everyday. I am all too familiar with exploding poop I have 2 children.

My daughter is almost 4 months, and love at first sight has not worn off. It hasn't even worn off for my 6 year old :)

  5. I was shocked the first few times Sweetpea managed to pee on me during diaper duty! :) And we still get the occasional explosive diaper...

    Take care,
    Steph

  7. Yeah... explosive diapers...not fun! The worst one that I can remember is with Grayson on Easter. All nice in his beautiful antique outfit....poop everywhere 3 times that afternoon! So gross! I think I ran out of diapers and wipes at my parents!

  9. Would it surprise you if I told you that the first thing Ariel told me was that Ivy pooped on the floor and on your arm? It was pretty funny.

I'm glad our little angels remained angels for you guys last night. You both are the best! They loved you almost as much as I do!

  10. Too funny! I remember when asked if having a boy was different than our 3 girls, when he was about 2-3 weeks old. My only response was "He pees on me!" I was still getting that part figured out, and I was so in love with him it didn't matter.

  11. I remember explosive diapers!

Jackson would have them within minutes of eating.

He would be laying in the pack and play and you could hear him dirty his diaper from across the house!

  12. Ooooh, I'm sorry about the explosive poop thing. This past week, my in-laws came to visit and we were in the middle of a mall in Atlanta when -you guessed it- my 6-month-old decided to dish out QUITE a surprise in his diaper. He COVERED my husband in it, and that's not an understatement. Meanwhile, I scooped him up and attempted to run through the mall to the bathrooms while not allowing any part of his body to touch mine. It was a pretty uncomfortable running stance for both of us, and probably a bizarre sight for the Atlantians present.

  15. I think Jonah would love Florida, seeing as how he keeps taking off his diaper and throwing it at me.

I'm still laughing imagining Ariel's face when that explosion happened. OMG. Hysterical.

  20. Oh yes, I remember being peed on by my own little girl. And also the changing table, pad, stuffed animals...everything in sight. Good times I tell you. :) I guess it's better then being pooped on, which I totally have been too. That breast milk poop...whew, the memories!! Ah, something to look forward to in another 2 months!!

  21. That is too funny! You will never forget those moments. My husband used to freak out when my oldest daughter would have blowouts. For some reason we my little girl hasn't had very many blowouts. I think it might have to do with switching to cloth.
My oldest had a blowout when she was in her crib. She was about one when in happened. She managed to take off her shorts and diaper and then spread the poop everywhere! I didn't even know where to start. This may sound gross, but I wish I would have taken a picture.

  22. That's so funny!

The first night home with JR, he pooped ALL OVER His crib, Bill, Bill's arm-EVERYWHERE. Bill was chainging his diaper while I soaked my stiches-then he yelled out some dirty words, and I, thinking I had seen everything poop could throw at me, rolled my eyes at his inability to handle a dirty diaper. UNTIL I saw how it had gotten ALL OVER. I swear JR lost half his body weight with that one poop.

And now Bill makes fun of me for not taking his poop distress seriously. :)
