In Target yesterday my mouth literally dropped as I passed a rack of jeans that were hideous. Acid washed. With tapered ankles and buttons. I mean, come on. I know styles cycle through the years and make a comeback but certainly there are fashion statements that taught us a lesson to never go there again... like these jeans. Please someone tell me crunchy, poofy bangs are not making a comeback, too?
In other fashion news, I finished the baby's sweater! And had enough yarn left over that I decided to make her a little hat. I can't wait for her to wear it!
Sometimes, things are better left in the past. It's not always cool to make a comeback! I will not relive my crunchy bangs, rolled acid wash jean middle school self again!
ReplyDeleteThe little sweater and hat, bloody adorable!
That sweater turned out precious! Now you are officially ready!
ReplyDeleteJen
I hope the jeans DO come back, minus the acid washing. I LOVE tapered legs, and HATE the stupid low waist bands.
ReplyDeleteI also will do a happy dance if my poofy 80's bangs come back! I have to fight not to curl them back and spray them and tease them every day. It is a battle.
Thank goodness I kept mine--I knew they would make a comeback!!! And when football size shoulder pads come back, I'm gonna be so in the fashion!!!
ReplyDeleteHee hee~!
You knew the eighties had to come back...we've already re-packaged the 70's in every variation and style--actually saw a fashion spread on caftans--those were part of my mom's hipster look back in the day...
Blessings!
Good work on the sweater!
ReplyDeleteI actually thought you looked great in that Yearbook photo thing you did with the 80's hair, so you're all set if they do come back!
I was perusing the childrens place website last week and they had stirrup pant jeans for girls. My girls will not be wearing them.
ReplyDeleteThe sweater and hat, adorable!
The sweater and hat are adorable. Did you find the button from Gram's jar? I might have a pair of those jeans in a box somewhere...
ReplyDeleteThe jeans definitely need to go back where they came from. But that sweater is so, so cute! You'll have one fashionable babe. No tapered jeans for her.
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest little sweater. I love the hat. I am so glad you had enough to make it. Hope you are feeling well. Only nine more days for me and then I will know if we have another little girl or maybe I will be stepping into your world with a boy.
ReplyDeleteThose jeans definitely need to stay gone!
ReplyDeleteThe sweater and hat are so sweet. I bet you can't wait to have her here, all dressed in pink.
Hate the jeans! Love the little sweater! You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteThe 80's is a decade that never needs to be revisited fashion wise... those jeans are horrific. I actually had a pair that buttoned at the bottom like that, yuck!
ReplyDeleteAnd that sweater is adorable! Makes me wish I knew how to knit so I could do it for our little on on the way!
Those jeans scream "WRONG"!!!!
ReplyDeleteLori
Oh gosh, no. Like, HECK no.
ReplyDelete*gouging out eyes*
But, before I do that, I must say, sweater+hat= beautiful! :)
Let's just face the facts that unless you are 5'10" and 102 lbs. you should NOT wear skinny jeans!!! I'm far from being model skinny but still all about fashion. There is no way you'll find my fat behind in those jeans. For once I'ld rather be out of style in my boot cuts than try to pull the "in" look off. On a much cuter note the baby's sweater and hat are beautiful. I love the color!
ReplyDeleteThat sweater is so cute, it almost makes those jeans less hideous.
ReplyDeleteAlmost.
You are so talented!!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I was at Target one day and saw a dress that was hideous! It was printed on the wrong side of the fabric, intentionally, and the the belt was printed on the right side! It looked really strange, to say the least. I know that anyone who wears it is going to have many well-intentioned souls tapping them on the shoulder, whispering, "Did you know your dress is on inside-out?" There were an awful lot of the dresses still on the rack, so maybe no unfortunate souls bought the ugly things!
Oh yeah the 80's are coming back....I like the memories of being a kid and wearing those horrible things, but other than that I hope this fad goes away FAST....
ReplyDeleteAt the mall they have those aerobic reebox and PUMPs (tennis shoes) all in NEON colors...leg warmers...OH MY!!
At least I got a great laugh at the mall last week.
Good thing you have better fashion sense, your sweater and hat are so adorable!
If Paula Abdul can make a comeback, we shouldn't be surprised about the acid washed jeans. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable sweater. Lucky little girl will have a cute wardrobe to welcome her to the world!
The sweater and hat are beautiful. You are truly talented.
ReplyDeleteThe jeans -oh no! Gag! I guess anything is possible... have you heard the "New Kids on the Block" are making a comeback. Am I the only one that thinks it's weird to call middle aged men kids?
Good Rule to live by: If you are old enough to remember the extreme styles when they came around the first time, you are probably too old (or in my case to round)to wear them a second.
With that said, I did love my leg warmers. Fashionable and Functional!
Oh no, not acid washed jeans. Well, for those of us who have already lived through that phase, we certainly don't have to do it again. I know for sure that I will NOT be having the mile high bangs ever again! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your sweater for Ivy! Are you all done nesting now? Can't believe Sept is already here! :)
ReplyDeleteUm, I just bought those jeans. Just kidding!
ReplyDeleteThe sweater and hat are so cute. We better get to see pics of her in that!
Every fashion makes a come back. That's when you get a new vision of what you really looked like when you thought you looked so great. Usually the comeback fashion gets reworked a little though so it isn't exactly the same. When I was in junior high all the girls wanted to bleach their bangs blond. My mother wouldn't let me do it - good thing - it's much to hard to bleach really dark hair and it looks weird too.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know acid-washed jeans and hand-knit baby sweaters could go together so nicely in one post.
ReplyDeleteBut I think it's important to remember that these trends (the '80s, not the babies) feed off of resistance. The more we cringe at acid-induced flashbacks, the more strongly they'll emerge. The trend of an 80s rebirth may be building out of the youthful desire to stand out from or rebel against the previous generation. And the most effective way to do that is to force us to relive an era we'd rather forget.
The only counter attack is to compliment kids in acid-washed, tapered-leg jeans. Say things like, "Oh, those are really fancy slacks," or "I used to have a pair just like those, but I never looked as neato as you do."
Embrace the '80s, and they'll go away (he said as he set his DVR to record 90210 tonight at 10:30 with extra time alotted just in case the Cubs game goes long).
Does this mean I should take mine back to the store?
ReplyDeleteI think maybe the old is new again trend was started by people young enough that they don't have pictures of themselves in these hideous clothes. Maybe a little Photoshop is in order to show them.
ReplyDeleteTapered legs make me look like an oompa loompa
Oh, your sweater is BEAUTIFUL! As you know, I am a newbie knitter so I love seeing what you are knitting!
ReplyDeleteAcid wash jeans should never make a comeback. Blech! I also hate the hot pink and green that are popping up in nasty plastic jewelry :)
I love baby's sweater and hat!! The jeans are a WHOLE 'nother story... did you see my post about sandals and socks last week? UGH!
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing about the jeans and hair you are talking about, people are still wearing them, the jeans I mean oh and hair style too! I don't think they ever stopped. Is that not crazy???
ReplyDeleteWe were in the store a few weeks ago and my husband of all people said to me, didn't that hair style go out in the 80's? I said along with her mom jeans.
Please don't let them come back esp. the bangs. Our environment can't afford the toxins emitted from curling hair that is wet with AquaNet. Remember the fumes? Ugh.
ReplyDeleteIn 1988, I ROCKED big bangs! I DO NOT hope they make a comeback. I may like the jeans (minus the acid wash) if I were a little bit thinner. ha ha!
ReplyDeleteLove that sweater and cap! Darling!
Awe Steph . . . Ivy's sweater & hat are adorable! Can't wait to see that smiling face in it! Love you and am thinking of you . . . it's getting close! I started crocheting Gracie a blanket while waiting for Gustav make landfall!
ReplyDeleteLove you,
Aunt Diane
Man I hope I don't have to start buying Aquanet again. That is probably the cause of all this global warming. That sweater is so cute! You are going to love putting your little girl in that.
ReplyDeleteThat little sweater is so very cute!
ReplyDeleteThose jeans though - ugh. Of course, around here there are still people wearing them from the first go round. Fashions take a LONG time to vanish in these parts.
It's true. I found tapered jeans at Old Navy this weekend. They are just plain evil. Not going there. Give me a good boot cut or trouser jean any day.
ReplyDeleteAt least the waistbands are getting higher!
Yeah, not loving the jeans.
ReplyDeleteTotally loving the sweater and hat though, too cute!!
What's up with those jeans? Please tell me that is not coming back into style!
ReplyDeleteLove the sweater though, super duper cute!
I was walking through the mall with my little brother (who just turned 13.) We saw a very skinny kid wearing "those" jeans. "Oh my gosh, Hogan, what is HE wearing?!?" "Oh, he's just EMO," replied my brother... After he explained emo to me, I explained the 80's to him. Not like I really experienced it though. I was born in '84!
ReplyDelete80's jeans...no. Leg warmers and jelly shoes... yes!! That would be a comeback I could get on board with!
ReplyDeleteI saw a picture of Katie Holmes with tight rolled jeans. Seriously?! Whatever. The sweater and hat are adorable!
ReplyDeleteI KNOW! I saw those jeans too! Blech!
ReplyDeleteThat sweater and hat is SO CUTE!!!!
HATE THOSE JEANS. I saw mannequins wearing those at Woodfield Mall last month. It hurt my eyes. I thought maybe I was just jealous because I wouldn't be able to get my ankles through the opening, but I guess it's the style of the jean that is just awful, not just my large ankles.
ReplyDeleteNow, I love the sweater....so can you start on mine now?
Love the sweater and hat. I can't believe that those jeans are coming back...I can remember pinning and rolling my jeans is that next...ewwww!
ReplyDeleteHeidi
Jeans - I can't imagine many of them will sell!
ReplyDeleteSweater - absolutely gorgeous! Love it =) You did a great job!
My huge calves (thanks, genetics!) don't do tapered leg jeans. I had to tight-roll the first time around; not planning to go there again! And acid wash? No thanks.
ReplyDeleteBaby Ivy will be precious in her sweet little pink sweater and hat!
I love the sweater and hat - you will have to take a picture of her in it!
ReplyDeleteThe sweater you made for Ivy is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe sweater and hat are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteNICE sweater - Wow, you're like a bundle of naturally talented momness. Kudos.
ReplyDeleteCan't say I ever wore jeans like that. Can't say I ever will. lol
ReplyDeleteThe shirt and hat are adorable for Ivy.
Nell
So cute - the sweater I mean. Good grief those jeans are hideous!
ReplyDeleteHOW do you fit KNITTING in to your life. You BOGGLE my mind girl. I just can't figure out how many hours you have in your day! LOL
OH MY GOSH! Those are HIDEOUS jeans!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute sweater, I might add!
Dude I saw those jeans and thought the same thing, buttons on the ankles, my Lord! (watch I'll be wearing them in 3 months).
ReplyDeleteYou did an amazing job on that little sweater there Mama, love it.
Jeans like that scream run, don't walk away! I don't think crunchy bangs can make a return either, because um, didn't they outlaw those hairspray bottles needed to make them, for killing the ozone or something?
ReplyDeletegreat sweater though. And great 5 minutes for parenting work. A blogger linked me to the potty article after reading my own poop perils, and well, it was like a breath of fresh air. Which around here, is pretty rare these days.

So if the acid wash jeans are back, does that mean I get out my hair bows covered in neon shoe laces and deflated balloons??? :D
ReplyDeleteThe babies clothes look great! You are very talented!
Oh my those jeans LOL... it brought back memories indeed.
ReplyDeleteI love the sweater and hat. I'm trying to learn how to crochet as well but its been so hard to get my mind around it.
Yeah, I work with High schoolers and it makes me cringe to see some of the styles I was wearing in middle school... or worse yet, the ones my mom wore in those silly pics before I was even a thought.
ReplyDeleteAdorable sweater and hat!
Blessings from your still prego friend...
I'm with you. I don't care WHO says those stupid skinny jeans are "in." They make me look like I have two butts, so I'm never wearing them again. I swore off any jeans except for boot-cut/flare in middle school after a boy accused me of wearing highwaters. :-(
ReplyDeleteI love the little sweater/hat set! I didn't realize you were so crafty.
Jeans- EWE! Swater set- ADORABLE. I really need to get back into knitting. Now if I could only remember how to cast on and actuiaslly knit. haha
ReplyDeleteThat is very much like I felt about low slung jeans and bell bottoms, but that didn't stop FASHION.
ReplyDelete(please no mall bangs!)
Love the sweater and hat! Can't wait for Ivy!
Good Lord...NO!
ReplyDeleteAcid wash = Yuck!
ReplyDeleteBaby sweater = Great job! So cute!
Acid wash *again*? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteYour sweater looks fantastic!
I was in Target just yesterday and saw a pair of the ankle zip jeans....but I did not see the acid washed denim...ACK! My eyes!
ReplyDeletei completely agree with you on those jeans. why would we want to bring those back? uggg..and that is a beautiful sweater and hat! wish i could knit.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on the sweater! I keep thinking about picking up my knitting needles...but then I remember that I've only made hats. Maybe I'll be brave and tackle something with a bit more of a challenge this fall!
ReplyDeleteI don't care what comes back in style, I will never, ever wear acid washed jeans again! *shudders*
