To Vlog Or Not To Vlog

At the Mommy Monologues session the other day (which, by the way I do plan on writing about in more detail soon), video blogging was brought up. If that is where the future of blogging ends up going, will I go there, too? That's tough for me, because most of my blogging is done pre-shower, pre-makeup, and uh, I'm not very presentable. And does anyone like how they sound on video? Is she plugging her nose on purpose? No, that's just the way she talks! Ew. And then no one would watch me again. Or maybe it would be this huge phenomenon like a train wreck and who wants that? Oh, maybe you do.

So, I'm thinking about experimenting with it a little more here & there. So for a little taste of the real life at my house, you can watch this little clip I uploaded to newbaby.com of what just-before-bedtime looks (and sounds) like at my house. Then maybe you'll understand why I look and sound the way I do when you finally see me in action someday.

  1. I've been wanting to post a vlog for a while now, but haven't come up with anything exciting to talk about. I do like it when I see and hear another blogger, it's fun to hear their voices and watch their facial expressions...can't get goof facial expressions from a blog post:)

  2. The idea of vlogging kinda scares me-I don't mind people reading what I have to say, if they even do that, but I am a little freaked about people watching me do stuff. I guess I would go for it if I felt it served some purpose, like a how to on wearing a sling, or combing out cradle cap or something. That would be fun to share.

  3. Noooo, I couldn't vlog, I blog while feeding littlepixie who prefers to hold onto both boobs while feeding. It might attract a whole other demographic to my site :)

  4. Very cute, Steph! And no, I'm not vlogging, ever. I do have some very cute videos of AJ that I won't even put up because I think it gets too personal, that videos see too much of the home, the person, etc. Pictures are easily cropped and manipulated before placed but videos you can't do that to.

  5. You know, about 40 years ago at a World's Fair in Montreal, there was a picture telephone display. Somehow though, we don't see picture phones in everybody's home. Maybe it is because we don't want to show what we look like if we answer the phone in the middle of a shower, cleaning the bathroom, still in bed, you fill in the rest.

  6. I've been doing a little of it... but just recently. It started as a joke, but there was a small request for more. because i'm anal and it's time consuming, I've limited it to once a week... for now...

  7. I'm all about blogging....vloging might not be for me. I have a hard time getting people to take me serious as it is!

  8. Love your before bedtime... mine looks about the same most nights, and I only have a 2yo and 7mo. What's ahead?!?

If blogging turns into vlogging, I doubt I'll follow. I'd spend so much time getting ready to record that I'd never end up actually recording. Unless, of course, we all just sign a contract stating that we will not judge what we see or hear on said vlogs. :)

  9. I think it would be very difficult for me to Vlog. I think it's fun to blog about the cute things my kids say but who wants to watch me retell the story?!

  10. I can't even keep up with Twitter! And I'm not sure everyone needs to know just how much I post while nursing...

  11. Ok, I laughed at Gray spinning round and round....HILARIOUS!!!

And about vlogging, well, doesn't Rosie O'Donnell vlog? It's kinda neat, but a little too much if done all the time. I think every now and then would be neat and a way to know you better. (Not that I need to know you better!)

  12. I think I'd love seeing you and others do it, but for me... I just can't be funny in person. I lack timing and my delivery comes off stilted and awkard. I doubt I'd take it on, personally, unless I could hire an actress to play me. HA! Check me out though, I'd be the Milli Vanilli of vlogging!

Think I might be onto something here.

  15. Plugging her nose, lol! I've heard you and person and you have the sweetest voice. I'd love your vlogs, but no, I couldn't do it. No way, uh uh, never.

I'm guessing it took you awhile to get those boys to bed, eh? ;)

  16. Yeah, if that's the future of blogging, I won't be a part. Totally not into people seeing more than pictures, I don't think any of you want that. LOL Plus, I just do better when I have time to think things our rather than just say them. It's jus better for me.

  17. I would occasionally, but not as the regular format. I would just be too caught up in the details. Plus, I would have to clean up first.

  18. I started video blogging to announce winners of my blog contests. Actually, I've only done it once, and I'm doing it this weekend to announce winners. It went over really well. People found it interesting to put the face and voice to the writing. I'm kind of dreading doing it this weekend because I don't like how I look or sound on video, but the people like it! ;)

But, no, it doesn't replace the writing, and it never will for me. I really hope blogging doesn't take that direction. For me, it's all about the writing....

  19. Ok, just yesterday I was thinking about doing a vlog or two for my blog.

Your boys are adorable! I hope to have a boy one day.

  20. I blog because I like to write, it's therapeutic, and fun. Now, I am not so sure having to get dressed up and figure out my video equipment would be that much fun or very therapeutic so..... probalby not going to VLog anytime soon.

  21. I am better heard and not seen, but I just might give it a try.

Your kids are so cute! They look like real hams. I wonder how you possibly got them to sleep after that!
