This Kid

At an unexpected moment every day I am reminded that Gray won't be "the baby" for long. Although I still call all my boys my babies, he won't be the baby anymore. And he's been the baby for a while now.

Every day is getting better with this kid. We have had some rough times. Some drama. Ok, a lot of drama. From the moment he wakes in the morning to the moment he fights sleep at night. But each day is better. Each morning brings a bigger smile and less tears.

Maybe he's finally getting the hang of this being a two year old thing. It can't be easy, I suppose. What with being waited on hand and foot and loved every moment of the day... imagine! But it's a lot of life and living and being loved by so many people to take in around here. A lot of learning that the world doesn't necessarily spin and stop when he wants it to, and that cookies are not to be eaten for breakfast or even lunch for that matter. Only sometimes.

But look at this kid's smile. The fact that I'm seeing it more and more is a light in my day. I was concerned the scowl and brood was going to be his signature look. This baby is, gulp, turning into a boy.

A boy.

Goodbye to his tears and hello to mine.

The shirt he has on matches his cute little smile. He is the poster boy for boys!
I just can't help but smile and think back to when Kean was that age when I see Gray in a picture.

So sweet. I just want pick him up and hug him tight! Your girlie-girl will have lots of hugs and protection from your boys. That's how my Katie is -- kisses, hugs, and wrestles...hehe

We were out to lunch today and my husband said of our 2 year old daughter, "Isn't this age fun?" Of course we came home, and, while making peanut butter cookies, there was an I need a nap meltdown directly after! But, all in all, it's true. This age is so fun!

Too cute. That turning from baby into boy, is so fun and something I want to hold on and not let go.

It's sad when they are no longer babies, but each age will hold it's own sweetness to enjoy if we stay close, which I know you will.

I know that transition from babyhood to big kid is so sad. What a cutie though. And I love that pink dress you bought the baby :)

everything you write lately is like a page from my own life (except i'm not pregnant, thank goodness)! we've had some rough spots lately too, and it gets better every day...except today when he screamed his lungs out in public. we promptly left the store, but still, totally embarrassing! anyhow, there are so many great things about this age, that we have to overlook those little things that make us nuts!

What a doll. And look at the bright side: now you can coach me through it when this happens to me!

Oh, sweet post. I feel the same about my two year old. Even though there is another baby, he is still my baby boy.

He is too cute!

I'm in the same boat, although for me it's the first time. They grow up so fast. It seems I turned around one day and where my sweet cuddly baby had been there was now a boy - with his own thoughts and ideas. Little guys are so wonderful!

Congratulations on the girl. She'll be the beginning of a whole different adventure!

Aw, what a cute way to end the post with that quote. :)

He is precious, as are all your kiddos. You know, he is going to be a great brother, he already is!

I am so happy for you and the girl being in the family! I can't wait to hear the name! I hope having a girl is all you've dreamed it to be!

I like the new look on the blog.

I feel the same about Jayce. Little words are emerging where none existed before. He plays on his own more whereas he used to need Mama.

But at the same time he still needs kisses on his ouchies and loves it when I rock him before his naps.

Baby steps I guess. I love the "goodbye his tears hello to mine." It's like you took the words right outta my mouth.

What an adorable little man he is!
We went through the same with our middle son, it started about 2.5 and lasted for about a year, so I can relate!

He is going to be a great big brother!

I know it is tough for them and tough for you to look at them and know they aren't the baby anymore. I had a hard time with that myself!

You mean boys can bring drama too? Oh man, I thought that was one thing I wouldn't have to worry about with this one.

He has an AWESOME smile!

Pretty sure Hailey could fall in love with him. We could be "mother-in-laws" to each other's children! We would rock as M-I-L'S.
