I dreamed all night about my ultrasound. That I forgot to drink the water. That I went today and thought it was Friday and my ultrasound isn't until tomorrow. That I was in a pool of water being chased by a funny toad with teeth. What?
The big day is tomorrow. Well, one of the big days. The first day I'll see who has been kicking me a lot the past several weeks. And we just might find out if this is a he or she inside me.
When I had my first big ultrasound with Noah, I wanted to do everything right, so I was so upset when I couldn't get all that water down. I thought I'd be in trouble. I nervously told the ultrasound tech that I drank most of the water, but not all. She asked how much I thought I drank and I said- maybe 60 oz? Her eyes grew wide and and she said you only had to drink 32! I thought it was 64. Oops. No wonder.
So tomorrow- 32 ounces it is... and I start drinking that about an hour before- right? See, I still have to look this stuff up! And if you want to be in the know the very moment we find out boy or girl, I'll be tweeting from my phone at the doctor's office (after we call our family first, of course.)

And then you're laying there, on your back, pressure from the baby on your bladder, ultra sound tech pressing on your stomach, and you wonder if you can keep from running to the bathroom in the middle of the ultra sound. LOL Can't wait to hear all about the U/S.
With my first three, I drank all the water and in the middle of the ultrasounds the tech asked me to use the bathroom because my bladder was too big and it was obstructing the view. With my fourth, they told me not to even bother drinking the water at all - just stay normally hydrated. I still ended up having to use the bathroom in the middle of it! :)
They've never made me drink any water at all and my ultrasounds(even the random spur-of-the-moment one they did at 12 weeks) have been perfectly clear, so don't stress about it too much. :) I hope you post the update before we leave town for the weekend!
You know what? I did the water thing, arrived at the office bloated and in pain from needing to GO, and the first thing the tech said was, "Do you need to go to the restroom?" I wanted to kiss her and slap her at the same time. Apparently at the later scans, they'd rather have the bladder empty. Who knew? Good luck! Such an exciting day!
Oh boy, I can't wait!!! We'll see if we keep having boy gatherings or possible a mix of boys and a girl. =)

I never drink an hour before. MAYBE half an hour before, and then I usually don't drink the full amount, because then I usually get asked to pee half of it out!
I can remember worrying about not drinking enough. One time I ha to pee so bad and they were running behind. I went to the bathroom and had to release it some. Crazy I know but I was in tears. Good luck tomorrow and dont do what I did...it was miserable.
They never made me drink water here...except when the ultrasound was really early - like at 7-8 weeks or something. ANYWAYS, the point of my comment is that I can't wait to hear the news. :) And just wait until you start having dreams about giving birth...I have those all the time now...and they are always ever-so-painless! haha. :)
I hate drinking all that water!! It's horrible. I couldn't enjoy the moment b/c I was in so much pain and all I could think about was peeing:0
i don;t think i was told to drink ANYTHING. But I did have that 3-D ultrasound, so maybe I didn't need to? Well, whatever...because I had a very successful ultrasound. After telling the tech that I wasn't leaving until I knew what it was, of course. lol.

How exciting. I loved seeing my babes in the sonogram. With my son, we told the tech that we wanted to know the gender. What was so funny was that as soon as she placed the machine on my belly she said "Whoa..BOY!" The doppler landed right on the evidence.
How fun!

oh how exciting! With my first, I drank soooo much water that I didn't even really enjoy the moment much because I had to pee so darn bad and they were pushing on my bladder....so don't do that!

Good luck...in CA they don't have you drink any water anymore. Just go in as normal. We found out a couple weeks ago we are having another girl! I know lots of pregos having girls so maybe you will just as lucky.

Oohh ... yuck. I can't imagine. With both of my kids, I was part of a test pilot project so never had to go with a full bladder. This center was a women's center and they felt that full bladders weren't necessary. Lucky for me. :)

Good Luck tommorow! If you are having a leval 3 or 4 us you usually don't need to drink the water. A good trick is you are going early (my peri told me) a small glass of OJ wakes the baby up...more likely to get the prized "shot"
That is so exciting for you and your family! I never had to drink any "extra" water for my ultrasounds ~ and all of them were very clear. Who knows? Every doctor is different! Good Luck tomorrow!

that's a lot of water! I only had to drink 16oz half an hour before my last ultrasound. even if you don't drink enough, you're far enough along to see the baby without it. I could never keep the water down with my first baby
You are so cute! I was lucky to get down 16 oz of water. I just had to pee every 10 seconds and I just said, "Oh forget it!" It all turned out well.

In one of my ultrasounds, I drank all the water they told me to and then when the tech started my ultrasound, she told me to go to the bathroom because my bladder was too full and she couldn't see anything! LOL!

During my pregnancies I always had crazy dreams too.
I didn't have a lot of super crazy pregnancy dreams, but I did have a ton of strange ones in those first few weeks after birth. Lots of drowning in the sea and a couple with killer whales. But they weren't like they would seem to be. They were actually very serene and made me feel at ease. I think the sleep deprivation played a big part in the whole thing.
I am so excited for you and your family to find out just which kind of baby you should prepare for!

I just about didn't make it to my u/s this time. The water was just too much for me! Then, the tech had the nerve to tell me not to empty my bladder all the way (so I could go for the dr). Too bad, though... there was NO stopping it!

I've been thinking about you all week. And I didn't drink nearly that much water for my 11 week ultrasound and they still saw everything perfectly.
I was really worried by first ultrasound, too because I didn't drink all the water. I thought I would get in trouble, too. That is pretty funny looking back on it.

I love your blog! Good luck tomorrow. I'm suprised they are making you drink water for this one. I only had to do that for the first ultra-sounds for both my pregnancies. Well, I guess 32 oz. is way better than 60!
Everytime I had an ultrasound I always have to pee! They push so hard sometimes it either hurts or I felt like I was about to lose all bladder control.
Totally worth it though.

When I had my ultrasound with J & J I didn't have to drink ANY water. The tech said it depended on the tech. Interesting, isn't it?

I drank all 32 oz with my first's u/s and HAD to pee 1/2 way there, so I bought more water and chugged it only to have the tech tell me my bladder was TOO full and make me pee!

For my most recent ultrasound last month, I had to wait 3 hours for the tech to see me. I drank my 32 ounces of water on the way to the appointment, and had to pee so bad I could hardly walk. Turns out I didn't have to drink any at all... I'm glad I asked the nurse, because I never would have made it. I peed 5 times before I even saw the tech!
I CAN NOT wait to find out tomorrow!
